  • This study was performed to investigate the distribution and decomposition characteristics of organic matter in stream water and sewage effluent located in Gwangju. Average of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) to total organic carbon (TOC) ratio was approximately 73.9% in the Youngsan river system. The concentration of refractory dossolved carbon (RDOC) was 3.7 mg/L corresponding to 80.9% of the DOC. The ratio of recalcitrant organic carbon was relatively higher than that of biodegradable organic carbon in stream. Oxidation efficiencies in the stream were 45.0% for BOD, 63.0% for $COD_{Mn}$ and 106.5% for CODcr. In case of sewage effluent was 33.6%, 65.7% and 136.1% respectively. Mean decomposition rate ($K_d$) of Youngsan river mainstream, its tributary sites and sewage effluent were about $0.042\;day^{-1}$, $0.043\;day^{-1}$ and $0.028\;day^{-1}$, respectively and the difference was not significant between the mainstream and its tributary sites (t-test, p>0.05). $K_d$ of the sewage effluent was lower than that of stream water.

  • This research was conducted to evaluate the effect of polluted Oncheon Stream on the marine organisms in the Suyeong Bay. Water quality and 96 hr acute toxicity to the sea urchin, Hemicentrotns pulcherrimus by recirculation bioassay were examined from Feb. 20 to Apr. 15, 1984. The 96 hr $50\%$ effective concentration($EC_{50}$) on the attachment of the podia of the sea urchin was observed to occur at test concentrations between 40.0 and $51.0\%$ (v/v), and safe concentrations may be assumed to be within 4.0 and $5.1\%$. These values indicate as follows : 1. Oncheon Stream was extremely polluted by oxygen-demanding wastes and synthetic organic compounds from sewage and industrial waste water. 2. Linear alkylbenzene sulfonate(LAS) which has not been yet included in water quality standard was discharged above the TLm. 3. Unknown toxicity may be synergy among complex substances. In consideration of the relationship between COD values of Oncheon Stream and dilution water, the effect of toxicity of Oncheon Stream water reached to the area of the Suyeong Bay where the COD value was found to be 12.2 ppm.

  • This study has been conducted for the long-term riverbed change prediction on Geum River and Miho Stream surrounding the planned Multifunctional Administrative City and the neighboring regions by the construction of a small dam. Based on the analysis of vertical riverbed changes of the cross-sectional data for the years 1988, 2002 and 2007, minimum bed elevation significantly decreased in both Geum River and Miho Stream in 2007 as compared to 1988. Compared to 2002, however, a slight elevation change was observed. To make a long-term prediction on riverbed changes by the construction of a small dam, a one dimensional HEC-RAS 4.0 model has been used. By the fixed bed model test, the water levels were calibrated. By using the cross-sectional data of 1988 and 2002, verification was conducted under a movable bed model. According to the prediction of riverbed changes for each scenario with varying height of small dam, minor impact is expected around Miho Stream while major impact is expected around Geum River by 2017, as the small dam height increases. If the small dam is 7m-high, for example, it's been simulated that 1.59m deposition would be expected around the upper stream of Miho Stream Confluence while 1.98m scour would be expected around the downstream of the small dam.

  • When a modeling process is applied to an actual commodity market in the real world, interactions over closely related commodities through the marketing channel should also be formulated into the model to reflect the information that exists in the whole market system, otherwise unreliable estimates and test statistics may be produced by ignoring those effects. Single-equation type model in this case tends to yield inefficient estimates, and sometimes biased and inconsistent, which will mislead us. A system of equation method to examine the structure of the imported commodity market system is developed and its emtirical results are analyzed, then followed by some policy experiments and its implications.

  • As the growth of internet and the diffusion of wide multimedia applications are increased, the ownership verification and authentication in communication channel for a digital image become more important. For these purpose there are many watermarking scheme available for image, video stream and audio data. In this paper we studied on techniques for integrity and authentication of digital images and proposed new watermarking algorithm. The proposed algorithm is implemented in C language on IBM-PC and the test results are shown.

  • From the standpoint of fishery science it is an interesting matter to note that the size of Plecoglessus altivelis population on Cheju Island is smaller than that of the Nakdong River located in the southern part of Korea's mainland. Therefore the author carried out a comparative analysis to determine whether the populations differ because of racial or because of environmental conditions. The morphometric characters of the head length and the body length were used for the analysis of covariance and computed by a standard regression method of testing for the homogeneity of the populations. All samples were collected during 1968 and 1969 in the Milyang Stream of the Nakdong River and the Cheonji Stream of Cheju Island. The results of the analysis of the populations based on the significance test are as follows: 1. Since the F value observed was only 1.023 ($n_1=1,\;n_2=42$) the conclusion was reached that the samples could both belong to the same population. 2. In comparison with the deviations of the regression coefficients between the fish of the Nakdong River and Cherinji Stream, the populations were also highly significant suggesting that thelr belong to the same population. 3. The conclusion is that the fish of Cheju Island became a smaller fish in size due to an environmental condition but not due to racial characteristics.

  • This paper proposes real-time video transmission system by the car-mounted cameras based on MOST Network. Existing vehicles transmit videos by connecting the car-mounted cameras in the form of analog. However, the increase in the number of car-mounted cameras leads to development of the network to connect the cameras. In this paper, DSP is applied to process MPEG 2 encoding/decoding for real-time video transmission in a short period of time. MediaLB is employed to transfer data stream between DSP and MOST network controller. During this procedure, DSP cannot transport data stream directly from MediaLB. Therefore, FPGA is used to deliver data stream transmitting MediaLB to DSP. MediaLB is designed to streamline hardware/software application development for MOST Network and to support all MOST Network data transportation methods. As seen in this paper, the test results verify that real-time video transmission using proposed system operates in a normal matter.

  • This study investigated design factors and removal efficiencies of a sheet flow channel as natural type water improvement techniques in the stream. The channel was designed considering the design factors, then constructed and monitored in the test bed of the Osan stream's floodplain. Water lever, velocity, discharge, T-P, T-N, and NO3-N were monitored and the removal efficiencies and design formula were suggested. Overall efficiencies of T-P, T-N, and NO3-N range 10 - 20%, and they show consistent relations with residence times. Minimum velocity requirement is also suggested from the relation of algae conditions and velocities. Relation formula of residence time and removal efficiency will be applicable in the design and operation process of a sheet flow channel.

  • A chaos cipher system that focuses on the stream cipher system has a demerit that the longer the text is, the slower the speed of the encryption and description and the transmission and reception. On this study, we designed the cipher web mail system showing much better capabilities than the existing web mail system as the text is longer. In the embodiment of the cipher web mail system, we developed the key stream, the encryption and description of the text and the inside and outside mail viewer and so on. After the efficiency test, it was valued high in the respect of the speed of the encryption and description and the transmission and reception. And it made up for the defect of the stream cipher system. We expect that we can use it through the persistent applied study in the server system security, the file security, the security of the internet information, the protection of the e-commerce system information and other fields based on the cipher technique as the wide use cipher system that can replace the block cipher system.

  • The purpose of this experimental research is to suggest a base data to utilize the fine sand of Nakdong-River actively as an alternative aggregate for concrete. For this purpose, after the typical fine sand samples were collected at the mid stream and down stream of main stream of Nakdong-River, the physical properties of them and the mix characteristics of concrete using those were estimated. As a result, it was observed from the test result that mix characteristics between concrete using fine sand and concrete using well-graded reference sand made little differences since unit water content and unit cement content of concrete using fine sand increased only a little than those of concrete using reference sand for specified compressive strength.
