  • This study is to find out how organic solvent will be propagated from painting inside the steel box girder of bridge. $2.9m{\times}3.0m$ of inside size of steel box girder is not suitable for painters to do his work comfortably and hygienically. Substance density(ppm)inside the space of the box unsatisfactory hygienical condition. Most of organic solvent(mainly toluene) came down to 0.5m in two minutes and 53sec. But personal protection for painter should be properly kept against flying this heavy organic solvent. longitudinally 27.1m in length is a cell unit of the whole length of bridge. Model XP-3l6A made in Japan is a main instrumentation adjusted to sense organic solvent especially toluene which can be measured up to 10,000ppm. Scenario analysis by computer program, safer release 2.0 has been performed first to estimate how the organic solvent will be propagated. And then actual test was done as a model. This has been measured for approximately five(5) minutes, with 30 sec interval. Actual measurement results showed much higher $10{\sim}20%$ than result analyzed by the computer program, meaning that this painting work can give worse effect to the worker who is painting inside the box girder of the bridge. The first meas urement level over the floor set up at 30cm height from the floor, because organic solvent was estimated to stay at the level. and then, they were measured at 1.0m, 1.5m level respectively, more.

  • The goal of this study is to develop knowledge representation method for the construction and evaluation of ontology for diagnosis in oriental medicine. To develop the expert system for decision making on diagnosis and treatment, the systematic and structural knowledge which can be processible in EMR(Electronic Medical Record) must be precedent, and the Computational Process which control the system as well. This study set up an ontology as a trial model to represent the oriental medical knowledge into the machine processible one. Protege 2.1 has been used to build the ontology, and the serialization format of our ontology is the XML document based on OWL. The components of oriental medical diagnosis was arranged with the combination of symptoms which belong to the certain symptom patterns. Then natural language which expresses the oriental medical diagnosis components were converted into the logical sentence, and individual characteristic symptoms into each values of specific properties. In addition to the study, the diagnosis software for oriental medicine was developed and it used the ontology which we developed. Sequently, we tested the software to confirm the appropriateness of ontology. The result of the test shows that diagnostic questions are automatically formulated according to the diagnosis components of this ontology and that as such diagnostic results are induced. Therefore, the ontology system in this study will be efficient to develop the diagnosis program and useful as a tool for doctors to make decision. But, it is not recommendable to apply the system to the clinical environment until the clear diagnosis standards are introduced, and the more reliable diagnosis program can be developed based on the more appropriate ontology mentioned above.

  • As tunnel ventilation has recently been playing a major role in the tunnel construction and maintenance, longitudinal ventilation systems with jet fans have been utilized a great deal because they are economical and effective. However, due to the length of tunnels and heavy traffic, it is hard to take the field measurements. In this study, therefore, the computer simulation and the model experiment of producing a wind tunnel were carried out simultaneously and the results were compared. The ultimate objective of this research was to interpret the air flow pattern inside the tunnel with a jet-fan was set up, and to offer the useful data for jet-fan installation and operation. The experiment was carried out with varying the jet-fan diameters, location of installation, the discharge velocity. Result showed that as the initial static pressure came up with the negative pressure, the tunnel air flowed into the inside of tunnel from outside due to the entrainment-effect and the backflow-phenomenon by separation-effect was observed in the lower half part of the tunnel. As the jet-fan was getting closer to the tunnel wall, the entrainment-effect caused by the interaction with the wall was increased; however, the mixing distance and irregular flow section became longer, and also the air pressure loss generated by wall friction was large.

  • Tubular joints are used in the construction of offshore structures and other land-based structures because of its ease of fabrication. These joints are subjected to different environmental loadings in their lifetime. At the time of fabrication or modification of an existing offshore platform, tubular joints are usually strengthened to withstand the environmental loads. Currently, various strengthening techniques such as ring stiffeners, gusset plates are employed to strengthen new and existing tubular joints. Due to some limitations with the present practices, some new techniques need to be addressed. Many researchers used Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) to strengthen tubular joints. Some of the studies were focused on axial compression of Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) strengthened tubular joints and found that it was an efficient technique. Earlier, the authors had performed studies on Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) strengthened tubular joint subjected to axial compression. The study steered to the conclusion that FRP composites is an alternative strengthening technique for tubular joints. In this work, the study was focused on axial compression of Y-joint and in plane and out of plane bending of T-joints. Experimental investigations were performed on these joints, fabricated from ASTM A106 Gr. B steel. Two sets of joints were fabricated for testing, one is a reference joint and the other is a joint strengthened with CFRP. After performing the set of experiments, test results were then compared with the numerical solution in ANSYS Parametric Design Language (APDL). It was observed that the joints strengthened with CFRP were having improved strength, lesser surface displacement and ovalization when compared to the reference joint.

  • Shake table testing has been regarded as one of the most effective experimental approaches to evaluate seismic response of structural systems subjected to earthquakes. However, reproducing a prescribed acceleration time history precisely over the frequency of interest is challenging because shake table test systems are eventually nonlinear by nature. In addition, interaction between the table and specimen could affect the control accuracy of shake table testing significantly. Various novel control algorithms have been proposed to improve the control accuracy of shake table testing; however, reference values for control performance assessment remain rare. In this study, reference values for control performance assessment of shake table testing are specified based on the statistical analyses of 1,209 experimental data provided by the Seismic Simulator Laboratory of National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering in Taiwan. Three individual reference values are considered for the assessment including the root-mean-square error of the achieved acceleration time history; the percentage of the spectral acceleration that exceeds the determined tolerance range over the frequency of interest; and the error-ratio of the achieved peak ground acceleration. Quartiles of the real experimental data in terms of the three objective variables are obtained, providing users with solid and simple references to evaluate the control performance of shake table testing. Finally, a set of experimental data of a newly developed control framework implementation for uni-axial shake tables are used as an application example to demonstrate the significant improvement of control accuracy according to the reference values provided in this study.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the anchorage capacity of longitudinal bars for reinforced concrete exterior beam - column joints with steel fiber volume fractions. For this purpose, the steel fiber volume fraction was set to 0, 1, 2%, and the performance was compared with that of each other specimens. According to the test results, the maximum strength of EX-HK-NJR-0 decreased by 13% compared with the control specimen and EX-HK-NJR-1 decreased by 3% compared to the control specimen. However, when 2% of steel fiber was mixed, the maximum strength increased about 56% compared to the control specimen. The energy dissipation capacity of EX-HK-NJR-0 (when no transverse steel bars are placed) decreased by 61% compared to the control specimen. In addition, the energy dissipation capacity of the specimens with a steel fiber content of 1% decreased by 5% and 2% increased by 94% compared to control specimen. EX-HK-NJR-1,2 and the control specimen EX-HK-JR-0 experienced yielding of the reinforcing bars at the column interface before maximum strength development. However, when the EX-HK-NJR-0, the reinforcing bars at the column interface experienced yielding after maximum strength development. Therefore, reinforcement of steel fiber is considered to reduce the required development length for yielding of steel bars.

  • Bolted connections are suitable due to high quality prefabrication in the factory and erection in the workplace. Prefabrication and modularization cause high speed of erection and fabrication, high quality and quick return of investment. Their technical hitches transportation can be removed by prefabrication of joints and small fabrication of components. Box-columns are suitable members for bolted structures such as welded steel structures with moment frames in two directions etc., but their continual fabrication in multi-story buildings and performing the internal continuity plate in them will cause some practical dilemmas. The details of the proposal technique introduced here, is to remove such problems from the box columns. Besides, some other advantages include new prefabricated bolted beam-to-column connections referred to BBCC. This connection is a set of plates joined to columns, beams, support, and bolts. For a better understanding of its fabrication and erection techniques, two connection and one structural maquettes are made. The present work aims to study the cyclic behavior of connection numerically. To verify the accuracy of model, a similar tested connection was modelled. Its verification was then made through comparison with test results. The behavior of connection was evaluated for an exterior connection using three different support shapes. The effects of support shapes on rigidity, ductility, rotation capacity, maximum strength, four rad rotation strength were compared to those of the AISC seismic provision requirements. It was found that single beams support has all the AISC seismic provision requirements for special moment frames with and without a continuity plate, and box with continuity plate is the best support in the BBCC connection.

  • In this paper, we propose a system to predict the GPS trajectory of a pedestrian based on a deep learning model. Pedestrian trajectory prediction is a study that can prevent pedestrian danger and collision situations through notifications, and has an impact on business such as various marketing. In addition, it can be used not only for pedestrians but also for path prediction of unmanned transportation, which is receiving a lot of spotlight. Among various trajectory prediction methods, this paper is a study of trajectory prediction using GPS data. It is a deep learning model-based study that predicts the next route by learning the GPS trajectory of pedestrians, which is time series data. In this paper, we presented a data set construction method that allows the deep learning model to learn the GPS route of pedestrians, and proposes a trajectory prediction deep learning model that does not have large restrictions on the prediction range. The parameters suitable for the trajectory prediction deep learning model of this study are presented, and the model's test performance are presented.

  • Tertiary unconsolidated mudstones spread throughout the eastern coast area. The demand for high quality filling materials in these areas is increasing due to harbors and large-scale residential land development. Rock produced in-situ or near site has been used as road subbase construction or reclamation materials for economical reason, but it is hard to decide appropriateness of quality specification because of its characteristics. The test results showed that unconsolidated rocks are diversely considered according to a different method of the applied geotechnical investigation. Therefore, the site of tertiary unconsolidated mudstones, the classification of rock and evaluation of rock properties that must be evaluated by objective criteria and apply a different set of criteria are needed. In addition, the environmental impact must be considered due to acid mine drainage.

  • Recently, the number of shallow tunnel construction increases to improve the structural safety and environment-friendliness. In semi-cut-and-cover Method, ground is excavated to the crown arch level and arch slab is set to backfill before the excavation of lower face. In this study, laboratory model tests was performed to clarify the behavior of the arch slab constructed perpendicular to the slope. Results show that Arch slab is affected by perpendicular to the slope and bedrocks. Negative moment at the upper part of the arch slab at hillside and positive moment at the upper part at the other side are generated as perpendicular to the slope increases. Reaction load at the hillside support was larger than that at the other side.
