  • In this study, to improve bending strength performance of Korean white pine, we made the curved composite glulam that was reinforced with glass fiber materials and larch lamina. Five types of Korean white pine curved glulams were made depending on whether they had been reinforced or not and how they had been reinforced. Type-A, reference specimen, was produced only with Korean white pine lamina, and Type-B was with larch lamina in the same thickness. Type-C was made by inserting a glass fiber cloth of textile shape between the each layer. Type-D was reinforced with two glass fiber cloths, which were placed inside and outside of the outermost lamina. Type-E was reinforced with GFRP sheet in the same way as Type-D. As a result of this bending strength test, the modulus of rupture (MOR) of Type-B, Type-C and Type-E were increased by 29%, 6%, and 48% in comparison with Type-A. However, MOR of Type-D was decreased by 2% in comparison with Type-A. In the failure modes, Type-A, Type-B and Type-C were totally fractured at the maximum load. However, load values of Type-D and Type-E decreased slowly because of reinforcement of fracture suppression, and the GFRP sheet (Type-E) had better reinforcing effect on compressive stress and tensile stress than the glass fiber cloth (Type-D).

  • Development of new concrete bridge deck system with FRP plank using as a permanent formwork and the main tensile reinforcement recently has been actively conducted. Concurrent use as a reinforcing material and a permanent formwork, it is possible to reduce the construction time and construction costs than the usual concrete slab. In this study, an experiment was carried out for the bond stress between cast-in-place concrete and the type of FRP plank using as a permanent formwork. The interfacial fracture energy that can be one of the most important parameters were evaluated for adhesion performance and bond stress to know the characteristics of the failure mechanism of the adhesion surface. Interfacial fracture energy of normal concrete is 0.24kN/m of GF11 case, in the case of GF21, 0.43kN/m appears, in the case of CF11 and GF31, 0.44kN/m and 0.46kN/m respectively it appeared. In case of RFCON, 0.52kN/m appears from GF12, the CF12 and GF22, 0.51kN/m and 0.36kN/m appeared each case.

  • A concrete structure has become bigger and higher because of development of construction technology and a change in construction environment. Also it tends to focus on repairing, reinforcement and exterior in harmony with environment for structure maintenance and performance improvement. The research is about eco friendly durable painting applicable to concrete structure using civil and architecture. it purpose to improve external beauties and durable problems due to flexibility by variation of temperature, adhesion of exterior wall, crack and delamination in existing organic and mineral painting. For those problems, we made a eco friendly pre-paint that is made with preliminary treatment mixture as a highly enriched waterproof agent and adhesive increasing agent in preprocessing mixture. Then we performed an experiment on durability of prevention neutralization of concrete, durability abrasion, hiding power, adhesion, temperature resistance and resistance to chemical attack. The result of an experiment shows that hiding power is over 0.96 in standard test, durability abrasion test got higher value 1mg than water paint 75mg and tensile strength is 6 times higher than standard waterproof specification.

  • An experimental study was performed to evaluate the possibility of using stiff type PolyUrea(PU) on RC slab as a strengthening material. Stiff type PU(STPU) was sprayed on the bottom surface of the slab specimens, which were then attached with CFRP or GFRP sheets. Also the evaluation of the bond capacity, the single most influential parameter on strengthening of RC structures, was carried out the flexural capacity evaluation test results showed that the load carrying capacity of the PU specimen was greater and less than the unstrengthened and FRP sheet attached specimens, respectively. The STPU specimens showed a ductile flexural behavior in the plastic displacement range. With respect to bond capacity, the bond strength of all of the specimen exceeded the code required bond strength of 1.5 MPa. Also, the STPU sprayed specimen without using epoxy resin did not peel off when the tensile grip was applied for testing. The stability of the PU bond failure indicate a good bond strength of PU when applied to concrete.

  • Short discrete fibers compounded with concrete can enhance the tensile resistance and ductility of concrete. Recently, the effectiveness of the reinforcement has increased according to the increasing length of steel fiber. However, the lengthening of steel fiber requires reducing the ratio of the fiber content to remain the workability and quality of concrete. Thus, the present study evaluated the flexural performance of fiber reinforced concrete with less than l.0% fiber volume ratios of steel fiber, 30mm and 60mm long, and polypropylene fiber, being evaluated as a good reinforcing material with chemical stability, long-term durability, and cost effectiveness. Concrete with more than 0.25% steel and 0.5% polypropylene fibers improved the brittle failure of concrete after reaching cracking strength. Concrete reinforced with polypropylene exhibited deflection-softening behavior, but that with more than 0.5% polypropylene delayed stress reduction and recovered flexural strength by 60 to 80% after cracking strength. In conclusion, concrete reinforced with more than 0.75% polypropylene could improve structural flexural performance. In particular, energy absorption capacity of reinforced concrete with 1.0% polypropylene fiber was similar to that with 0.5% and 0.7% steel fibers.

  • Still no accurate theory exists for predicting ultimate shear strength of deep reinforced concrete beams because of the structural and material non-linearity after cracking. Currently, the load capacity assesment is performed for the upper structure of the bridges and containing non-reliability in the applications and results. The purpose in this study is to evaluate analytically the complex shear behaviors and normal strength for the reinforced concrete deep beams and to offer the accuracy load capacity assesment method based on the reliability theories. This paper presents a method for the load capacity assesment of reinforcement concrete deep beams using nonlinear finite element analysis. A computer program named RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures was used. Material non-linearity is taken Into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. From the results, determine the reliability index for the failure base on the Euro Code. Then, calculate additional reduction coefficient to satisfy the goals from the reliability analysis. The proposed numerical method for the load capacity assesment of reinforced concrete deep beams is verified by comparison with the others methods.

  • Carbon fiber (CF) reinforced papers using polyacrylonitrile (PAN) based CF and wood pulp were prepared by varying the lengths and the concentrations of CF, and the basis weight of paper to investigate adhesive state between CF and pulp, and physical properties and electrical conductivity of the paper. The reinforcement was caused by physical entanglement and adhesion at the interface of the different fibers rather than by chemical bonds. The tear strength and the thickness of the paper increased as increasing the concentration of CF, while the tensile and the burst strength of the paper decreased. The improved dispersion of CF in the paper was obtained from mixing shorter CF, but the maximum electrical conductivity of the paper was gained from mixing 10 mm chopped CF. The electrical conductivity of the paper increased sharply from 2 wt% to 8 wt% of CF showing S-curve, and increased linearly as increasing the basis weight of the paper. Therefore, in order to improve the electrical conductivity and the physical property of the paper, the increase of basis weight of the paper is also important as the increase of CF content in the paper.

  • Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete (SFRC) beams has greater shear strength than typical reinforced concrete beams due to the high tensile strength of steel fibers. In this research, an experiment has been conducted to investigate the shear behavior of SFRC beams, and especially, the portion of shear resistance by uncracked compressive concrete section has been measured. Based on the test results in this study and 87 test data collected from literature, the accuracy of the existing equations for the estimation of shear strength has been evaluated. The shear strength of SFRC beams increased as more steel fibers were mixed. However, it is considered that the most efficient amount of steel fiber for enhancement of shear strength would be between 1% and 2% in that the specimen with 0.5% of steel fibers were abruptly failed after inclined cracking, and that the specimen with 2.0% of steel fibers showed a relatively low efficiency in increasing shear strength. The portion of shear resistance by the uncracked compressive concrete section was measured to be greater than 21%, and the equation proposed by Oh et al. provided the best accuracy on the estimation of shear strength of SFRC beams among the approaches evaluated in this study.

  • The paper is a summary of the results of the basic pullout test which is conducted to evaluate the anchorage capacity of high strength headed bars that is mechanical anchored vertically on steel fiber reinforced concrete members. The main experimental parameters are volume fraction of steel fiber, concrete strength, anchorage length, yield strength of headed bars, and shear reinforcement bar. Both sides of covering depth of the specimen are planned to double the diameter of the headed bars. The hinged point is placed at the position of each 1.5𝑙dt and 0.7𝑙dt around the headed bars, and the headed bars are drawn directly. As a result of pullout test experiment, concrete fracture and steel tensile rupture appear by experimental parameters. The compressive strength of concrete is 2.7~5.4% higher than that of steel fiber with the same parameters, while the pullout strength is 20.9~63.1% higher than that of steel fiber without the same parameters, which is evaluated to contribute greatly to the improvement of the anchorage capacity. The reinforcements of shear reinforcements parallel to the headed bars increased 1.7~7.7% pullout strength for steel fiber reinforced concrete, but the effect on the improvement of the anchorage capacity was not significant considering the increase in concrete strength. As with the details of this experiment, it is believed that the design formula for the anchorage length of KCI2017and KCI2012 are suitable for the mechanical development design of SD600 head bar that is perpendicular to the steel fiber reinforced concrete members.

  • Many people have been recognized that the Korean Peninsula is no longer safe area from the earthquake by the recent earthquakes occurred in the country. The earthquakes that occurred at Pohang and Gyeongju appeared differently from them considered in the seismic design and researches on the seismic design method have been also conducted by many researchers. Studies on seismic loads are mainly focused on existing superstructures, and research involving them has been actively carried out in reality. However, paper regarding structural stability of reinforcement from seismic load such as soil-nails, rock-bolts, ground anchors which were constructed to ensure stability of serviced structure have been published rarely. In this study, ground anchor been effected by static load and seismic load which is settled in the weathered rock is analyzed. Results for static load are obtained from field test and seismic load is from numerical analysis. In this study, the behavioral characteristics of the ground anchor were analyzed by numerical analysis in case of seismic loading based on the result of the in-situ tensile test of the ground anchor settled weathered rock. As a result, settlement of concrete block due to application of tension force for ground anchor occurred as well as following loss of axial force for ground anchor. Also, as bond length and period of seismic load are longer, increasement of displacement is greater.
