Redistribution of residual stress and its effects during fatigue crack propagates from tensile residual stress region in weldment are investigated. Tests are performed by using welded CCT specimens of structual rolling steel (SS400) and it makes fatigue crack propagate from tensile residual stress region. For this study tension-tension loading type is selected by external loading condition and magnetizing stress indicator is used correctly to measure redistribution of residual stress according to fatigue crack growth and number of loading cycles. From this result, it is proved that redistribution of residual stress is mainly consist of residual stress released by fatigue crack growth. When fatigue crack propagates from tensile residual stress region residual stress are redistributed and it makes fatigue crack growth rate largely increase. Fatigue crack growth rate is low in case of redistributed residual stress compare with initial distributed residual stress.
Isotropic rock and anisotropic rock have different tensile strength which has the greatest influence on rock failure. In this study, elastic modulus of anisotropic rock is obtained through uniaxial compression test, and tensile strength and tension failure behavior are analyzed through indirect tensile strength test. Stress concentration factor of a specimen at the center is obtained from anisotropic elastic modulus and strain by indirect tensile strength test. Theoretical solutions for tensile strength of isotropic and anisotropic rock are compared. Stress concentration factor of anisotropic rock is either higher or lower than isotropic rock depending on the inclination angle of bedding plane. The use of stress concentration factor of isotropic rock resulted in overestimation or underestimation of tensile strength.

This study measured the shearing resistance of the roots of the Sasamorpha purpurascens, Miscanthus sinensis, Lespedeza cyrtobotrya by the tensile strength gained through their individual tensile test for the Root Reinforcement Model. The results to have measured this stress by experiment are as follows. 1) The mean root diameter of the Lespedeza cyrtobotrya used for this experiment was 2.19mm and the mean tensile stress was calculated as $929.489kgf/cm^2$. As for the Sasamorpha purpurascens, its mean root diameter was 1.727mm, and the mean tensile stress was $292.069kgf/cm^2$. And as for the Miscanthus sinensis, its mean root diameter was 0.814mm, and the mean tensile stress was $696.947kgf/cm^2$. And so, it was grasped that Lespedeza cyrtobotrya was highest in tensile stress. 2) ${\Delta}Cr(kg/cm^2)$ of the shearing resistance calculated by estimating the areal ratio of roots at $10^{-3}$ is $1.069kg/cm^2$ in Lespedeza cyrtobotrya, $0.336kg/cm^2$ in Sasamorpha purpurascens, and $0.801kg/cm^2$ in Miscanthus sinensis. That is, Lespedeza cyrtobotrya has the highest shearing resistance. However, since a precise analysis of the controlled factors of the slope analyses are demanded for more accurate dynamic analyses, the future demands a study on this.
Korea and Japan have done a lot of research on composite girders with corrugated steel webs and built many bridges with corrugated steel webs due to the significant advantages of this type of bridges. Considering the demanding on the calculation method of such types of bridges and lack of relevant reinforcement design method, this paper proposes the spatial grid analysis theory and tensile stress region method. First, the accuracy and applicability of spatial grid model in analyzing composite girders with corrugated steel webs was validated by the comparison with models using shell and solid elements. Then, in a real engineering practice, the reinforcement designs from tensile stress region method based on spatial grid model, design empirical method and specification method are compared. The results show that the tensile stress region reinforcement design method can realize the inplane and out-of-plane reinforcement design in the top and bottom slabs in bridges with corrugated steel webs. The economy and precision of reinforcement design using the tensile stress region method is emphasized. Therefore, the tensile stress region reinforcement design method based on the spatial grid model can provide a new direction for the refined design of composite box girder with corrugated steel webs.

The effect of a serrated grain boundary on stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of Alloy 600 was investigated in terms of improvement of SCC resistance. Serrated grain boundaries and straight grain boundaries were obtained by controlled heat treatment. SCC cracks preferentially initiated and grew at grain boundaries normal to the tensile loading axis. Resolved tensile stress normal to the grain boundary was lower in serrated grain boundaries compared to straight grain boundaries. The specimen with serrated grain boundaries showed higher SCC resistance than that with straight grain boundaries due to a lower resolved tensile stress normal to the grain boundary.
In the present study damage behavior of resilient sleepers on concrete ballasts is analyzed. Cracks of resilient sleepers in a railway track system are concentrated on inside of blocks to which the tie bars are connected. Finite element analysis is performed by dividing a block into the straight section and the curved section according to the load condition of the resilient sleeper, and limited the interpretation within the range of resilience. In addition, the value of stress obtained from the interpretation was compared with the allowable stress of concrete to determine the safety. According to the result of numerical analysis, compared with the stress before unequal settlement, the tensile stress of the inside of the block increased significantly after the settlement considering the entire block, and the tensile stress of this part exceeded the allowable stress of concrete, so was undesirable in terms of safety. In reality, the arrangement of tensile stiffeners inside blocks connected to tie bars is improper in the design of resilient sleepers, and when unequal settlement occurs, tensile stress increases on this part and consequently causes cracking damage. It is necessary to arrange wire meshes or tensile reinforcing bars in a structurally safe way to reinforce the inside of blocks on which cracks are concentrated.
Experiments on mechanical fatigue were conducted using the specimens which were cut from hydrogen cooled generator(rated 22kV and 50OMW) stator windings. We have investigated the aged mechanism of mica/epoxy insulation systems under air or hydrogen by both the tensile and compressive loadings. The fracture of generator stator windings is generally affected by mechanical stress. Thus, the tensile strength test were conducted. In this case, the maximum strength and strain are quite different between sound and aged specimens. It is observed that low bonded interface parts of tapes generally have lower strength than those of normal tapes which causes stress. In order to estimate the effects of cyclic load by the electromagnetic forces while the generator starts/stops, the mechanical fatigue test was also conducted. It is confirmed that the equation of expected life depends on stress amplitude and number of cycles. Though the stress amplitude and number of cycles are very tiny, the tensile fatigue of aged specimens under hydrogen atmosphere is bigger than those under air. In the case of hydrogen atmosphere, the tensile stress gives bigger effect than the compressive one.

By Testing restrained shrinkage, it is possible to estimating the cracking tendency of concrete such as time to cracking, tensile stress and tensile creep. In this study, tensile creep properties of concrete under restraint shrinkage were investigation through comparison of specimens that JIS and AASHTO proposed. As a results, tensile creep strains in concrete ring specimens were 15% higher than those in uniaxial specimens.
In this study a relationship between SP curves and tensile properties was investigated by FE analysis on SP test with various assumed tensile properties. For the accuracy of FE analysis, SP test and tensile test were performed and those results were compared with FE analysis results. The yield load(Py) defined from the intersection point of two lines tangent to the elastic bending region and plastic bending region. And it was related specifically with yield stress(${\sigma}_0$) in FE analysis result curves. The slopes of FE analysis result curves normalized by yield stress(${\sigma}_0$) reflected the change of tensile properties regardless of yield stress(${\sigma}_0$) variation. Empirical relations were derived from these results. Tensile properties from these relations showed good agreement in FE analysis curve and tested curve.

Experimental studies were conducted on 36 grouted splices to investigate their mechanical performance under four loading schemes: (1) incremental tensile loading, (2) repeated tensile loading, (3) cyclic loading at high stress, and (4) cyclic loading at large strain. Load-deformation responses of the grouted splices under cyclic loadings were featured with pinching effect and stiffness degradation compared to those responses under tensile loadings. The shape of the hysteresis loops of load-deformation curves was similar to that under incremental tensile loading. For the purpose of structural analysis, stress-strain relationships were presented for grouted splices under various loadings.
