The composites were fabricated $\beta$-SiC and $TiB_2$ powders with the liquid forming additives of 8, 12, 16[wt%] $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ as a sintering aid by pressureless annealing at $1,650[^{\circ}C]$ for 4 hours. Reactions between SiC and transition metal $TiB_2$ were not observed in the microstructure and the phase analysis of the pressureless annealed SiC-$TiB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites. The relative density, the flexural strength, the Young's modulus and the Vicker's hardness showed the highest value of 82.29[%], 189.5[MPa], 54.60 [GPa] and 2.84[GPa] for SiC-$TiB_2$ composites added with 16[wt%] $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives at room temperature. The relative density of SiC-$TiB_2$ composites was lowered due to gaseous products of the result of reaction between SiC and $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$. The electrical resistivity showed the lowest value of 0.012[${\Omega}{\cdot}cm$] for 16[wt%] at 25[$^{\circ}C$]. The electrical resistivity was all negative temperature coefficient resistance (NTCR) in the temperature ranges from 25[$^{\circ}C$] to 700[$^{\circ}C$].
The mechanical and electrical properties of pressed and annealed $\beta-SiC-TiB_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites were investigated as a function of the liquid forming additives of $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$. Phase analysis of composites by XRD revealed $\alpha$-SiC(6H), TiB2, and (Al5Y3O12). Reaction between Al2O3 and $Y_2O_3$ formed YAG but the relative density decreased with increasing $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ contents. The Flexural strength showed the value of 458.9 MPa for composites added with 4 wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ additives at room temperatures. Owing to crack deflection and crack bridging, the fracture toughness showed 6.2, 6.0 and 6.6 MPa.m1/2 for composites added with 4, 8 and 12 wt% Al2O3+Y2O3 additives respectively at room temperature. The resistance temperature coefficient showed the value of $3.6\times10^{-3},\; 2.9\times10^{-3}\; and\; 3.0\times10^{-3} /^{\circ}C$$^{\circ}C$ for composite added with 4, 8 and 12 wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$additives respectively at room temperature. The electrical resistivity of the composites was all positive temperature coefficient resistance(PTCR) in the temperature range of $25^{\circ}C\; to\; 700^{\circ}$.
Copper manganite thin films were fabricated on $SiN_x/Si$ substrate by metal organic decomposition (MOD) process. They were burned-out at $400^{\circ}C$ and annealed at various temperatures ($400{\sim}800^{\circ}C$) for 1h in ambient atmosphere. Their micro-structure and negative temperature coefficient of resistance (NTCR) characteristics were analyzed for micro-bolometer application. The copper manganite film with a cubic spinel structure was well developed at $500^{\circ}C$ which confirmed by XRD and HRTEM analysis. It showed a low resistivity ($47.5{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$) at room temperature and high NTCR characteristics of $-4.12%/^{\circ}C$ and $-2.15%/^{\circ}C$ at room temperature and $85^{\circ}C$, implying a good thin film for micro-bolometer application. Furthermore, its crystallinity was enhanced with increasing temperature to $600^{\circ}C$. However, the appearance of secondary phase at temperatures higher than $600^{\circ}C$ lead to deteriorate the NTCR characteristics.
Poly-N-vinylcarbazole/polyaniline (PVK-PANI) composites are synthesized by varying target loading concentrations of aniline (0.025 - 0.1 M). The surface morphology of the composites is studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The temperature-dependent DC conductivity of PVK-PANI composite films was studied at the temperature range of 300 - 500 K. The data suggest that the conductivity increase with an increase in aniline concentration in the composite with an increase in temperature. Further based on the conductivity behavior we can suggest that the PVK-PANI composites show a semiconducting behavior with a positive temperature coefficient of resistivity (TCR). The enhanced conductivity and the positive TCR of the PVK-PANI composite films may be due to the strong interaction between PANI and PVK in the composite films.
This paper describes the physical properties of filled Nylon6 composites resin with nano-sized carbon black particle and graphite nanofibers prepared by melt extrusion method. In improving adhesions between resin and fillers, the surface of the carbon filler materials were chemically modified by thermo-oxidative treatments and followed by treatments of silane coupling agent. Crystallization temperature and rate of crystallization increased with increases in filler concentration which would act as nuclei for crystallization. The silane treatments on the filler materials showed effect of reduction in crystallization temperature, possibly from enhancement in wetting property of the surface of the filler materials. Percolation transition phenomenon at which the volume resistivity was sharply decreased was observed above 9 wt% of carbon black and above 6 wt% of graphite nanofiber. The graphite nanofibers contributed to more effectively in an increase in electrical conductivity than carbon black did, on the other hand, the silane coupling agent negatively affected to the electrical conductivity due to the insulating property of the silane. Positive temperature coefficient (PTC) phenomenon, was observed as usual in other composites, that is, temperature increase results conductivity increase. The dispersity of the fillers were excellently approached by melt extrusion of co-rotational twin screw type and it could be illustrated by X-ray diffraction and SEM.
La0.7Sr0.3-xMgxMnO3 (LSMMO) (x=0.05~0.20) specimens are fabricated by a solid phase sintering method, and the sintering temperature and time are 1,300℃ and 2 hours, respectively. The dependence of the crystalline structure according to the amount of Mg2+ contents is not observed, and all specimens show a polycrystalline rhombohedral crystal structure, the X-ray diffraction (110) peaks move to the high angle side with increasing the amount of Mg2+ contents. LSMMO specimens exhibit a granule-shaped microstructure with an average grain size of 1 ㎛ or less. Resistivity gradually decrease as the amount of Mg2+ contents increased. And in the La0.7Sr0.1Mg0.2MnO3 specimen, resistivity and B25/65-value are 36.7 Ω-cm and 394 K at room temperature, respectively. LSMMO specimens show a variable-range hopping (VRH) electrical conduction mechanism, and the negative temperature of coefficient of resistance (NTCR) is approximately 0.37~0.38%/℃.
Negative-temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistors based on nickel manganite spinel ($NiMn_2O_4$) are widely used for many applications, such as sensors and temperature compensators, due to their good thermistor characteristics and stabilities. However, to achieve thermistors with a high NTC B constant, which is an important figure of merit pertaining to the degree of temperature sensitivity, the activation energy should be high such that high resistivity at ambient temperatures results. To obtain a high B constant and low resistivity, Al and Si modified spinel structured $Ni_{0.6}Si_{0.2}Al_{0.6}Mn_{1.6}O_4$ hybrid thick films with the conducting metal oxide of $LaNiO_3$ were fabricated on a glass substrate by aerosol deposition at room temperature (RT). The NTC-$LaNiO_3$ hybrid thick films showed resistivity as low as < $100k{\Omega}\;cm$ at $90^{\circ}C$, which is one or two orders of magnitude lower than that of the monolithic NTC films, while retaining a high B constant of $NiMn_2O_4$ of over 5500 K when 20 wt% $LaNiO_3$ was added without a post-thermal treatment. These phenomena are explained by the percolation threshold mechanism.
The mechanical and electrical properties of the hot-pressed and pressureless annealed SiC-39vo1.%TiB$_2$electroconductive ceramic composites were investigated as functions of the liquid additives of $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ and the sintering temperature. The result of phase analysis for the SiC-39vo1.%TiB$_2$ composites by XRD revealed $\alpha -SiC(6H),\; TiB_2,\; and YAG(Al_5Y_3O_{12})$ crystal phase. The relative density of SiC-39vo1.% $TiB_2$ composites was increased with increased $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$ contents. The fracture toughness showed the highest value of $7.8 MPa.m_{1/2}$ for composites added with 12 wt% $Al_2O_3+Y_2O_3$additives at $1750^{\circk}C$. The electrical resistivity of the SiC-39vo1.%$TiB_2$composites was all positive temperature coefficient resistance(PTCR) in the temperature range of $25S^{\circ}C \;to\; 700^{\circ}C$.
