  • The three-dimensional numerical analysis has been carried out to figure out the effect of the thermoelectric element thickness on the thermal performance of the thermo-electric micro-cooler. The small-size and column-type thermoelectric cooler is considered. It is known that tellurium compounds currently have the highest cooling performance around the room temperature. Thus, in the present study, $Bi_{2}Te_{3}$ and $Sb_{2}Te_{3}$ are selected as the n- and p-type thermoelectric materials, respectively. The thermoelectric leg considered is less than $20{\mu}m$ thick. The thickness of the leg may affect the thermal and electrical transport through the interfaces between the leg and metal conductors. The effect of the thermoelectric element thickness on the thermal performance of the cooler has been investigated with parameters such as the temperature difference, the current, and the cooling power.

  • The wet coating process could easily be made from large area film with printing paste mixed with semiconductor and binder material at room temperature. Semiconductor film fabricated about 25mm thickness was evaluated by field emissions-canning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). X-ray performance data such as dark current, sensitivity and signal to noise ratio (SNR) were evaluated. The $Hgl_2$ semiconductor was shown in much lower dark current than the others, but the best sensitivity. In this paper, reactivity and combination character of semiconductor and binder material that affect electrical and X-ray detection properties would prove out though experimental results.

  • Ni-Cr-Sn-Bi alloys were prepared by air melting and sand casting method and their anti-galling behaviors were examined. Anti-galling properties were dominantly influenced by Bi-rich low temperature precipitates. Alloying effects on the anti-galling properties were investigated for several alloying elements to improve anti-galling properties of the alloy. An alloy with $1-3wt\%$ of Te showed markedly improved anti-galling properties. Metallographic and tribological tests were carried out to find out reasons for excellent properties. It was found that Te containing alloy has finely distributed precipitates of Bi-rich phase. The addition of Te changed the morphology of the Ni-rich primary phase from globular to fine dendritic. As a result, the anti-galling phase precipitated between dendrite arms with fine distribution showed excellent anti-galling properties.

  • Ternary tellurite glassy systems $(CuO-V_2O_5-TeO_2)$ have been synthesised using tellurium oxide as a network former and copper oxide as network modifier. The addition of a transition-matal oxide makes them electric or mixed electric-ionic conductors, which are of potential interest as cathode materials for solid-state batteries. This glass-ceramics crystallized from the $CuO-V_2O_5-TeO_2$ system are particularly interesting, because they exhibit high conductivity ( up to $6.03{\times}10^{-3}S/cm$) at room temperature. the glass samples were prepared by quenching the melt on the copper plate and the glass-ceramics were heat-treated at crystallizing temperature determined from differential thermal analysis (DTA). The electric D.C conductivity result have been analyzed in terms of a small polaron-hopping model.

  • This review aims to provide a brief, comprehensive overview of advanced technologies of nuclear medicine physics, with a focus on recent developments from both hardware and software perspectives. Developments in image acquisition/reconstruction, especially the time-of-flight and point spread function, have potential advantages in the image signal-to-noise ratio and spatial resolution. Modern detector materials and devices (including lutetium oxyorthosilicate, cadmium zinc tellurium, and silicon photomultiplier) as well as modern nuclear medicine imaging systems (including positron emission tomography [PET]/computerized tomography [CT], whole-body PET, PET/magnetic resonance [MR], and digital PET) enable not only high-quality digital image acquisition, but also subsequent image processing, including image reconstruction and post-reconstruction methods. Moreover, theranostics in nuclear medicine extend the usefulness of nuclear medicine physics far more than quantitative image-based diagnosis, playing a key role in personalized/precision medicine by raising the importance of internal radiation dosimetry in nuclear medicine. Now that deep-learning-based image processing can be incorporated in nuclear medicine image acquisition/processing, the aforementioned fields of nuclear medicine physics face the new era of Industry 4.0. Ongoing technological developments in nuclear medicine physics are leading to enhanced image quality and decreased radiation exposure as well as quantitative and personalized healthcare.

  • The present study focused on the synthesis of a bismuth-antimony-tellurium-based thermoelectric nanopowders using plasma arc discharge process. The chemical composition, phase structure, particle size of the synthesized powders under various synthesis conditions were analyzed using XRF, XRD and SEM. The powders as synthesized were sintered by the plasma activated sintering. The thermoelectric properties of sintered body were analyzed by measuring Seebeck coefficient, specific electric resistivity and thermal conductivity. The chemical composition of the synthesized Bi-Sb-Te-based powders approached that of the raw material with an increasing DC current of the are plasma. The synthesized Bi-Sb-Te-based powder consist of a mixed phase structure of the $Bi_{0.5}Sb_{1.5}Te_{3}$, $Bi_{2}Te_{3}$ and $Sb_{2}Te_{3}$ phases. This powder has homogeneous mixing state of two different particles in an average particle size; about 100nm and about 500nm. The figure of merit of the sintered body of the synthesized 18.75 wt.%Bi-24.68 wt.%Sb-56.57 wt.%Te nanopowder showed higher value than one of the sintered body of the mechanically milled 12.64 wt.%Bi-29.47 wt.%Sb-57.89 wt.%Te powder.

  • This study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of 2-phenylethynyl-butyltellurium (PEBT) in Escherichia coli and the relation to its pro-oxidant effect. For this, we carried out the disk diffusion test, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) assay, and survival curve analysis. We also measured the level of extracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), activity of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), and level of non-protein thiols (NPSH). PEBT at 1.28 and 0.128 mg/disk exhibited antimicrobial capability in the disk diffusion test, with an MIC value of 1.92 mg/ml, whereas PEBT at 0.96, 1.92, and 3.84 mg/ml inhibited bacterial growth after a 9-h exposure. PEBT at 3.84, 1.92, and 0.96 mg/ml increased extracellular ROS production, decreased the intracellular NPSH level, and reduced the SOD and CAT activities. Glutathione or ascorbic acid in the medium protected the bacterial cells from the antimicrobial effect of PEBT. In conclusion, PEBT exhibited antimicrobial activity against E. coli, involving the generation of ROS, oxidation of NPSH, and reduction of the antioxidant defenses in the bacterial cells.

  • The results of electron microscopic studies on the cell fine structure of Nocardia sp the location of tellurite-reducing enzyme and the reduction part of T. T. C. (Triphenyl tetrazonium chloride) were summarized as follows. As the fine structure of the cell, the membrane-like structure with unit membrane was distributed in the cytoplasm. The membrane-like structure had complicate forms: some of membrane-like structure appeared spiral form. As the metal tellurium salt appeared in the cytoplasm, it is obvious that tellurite and tellurate-reducing enzymes are present in the cytoplasm. Reduction of T. T. C. took place in the cell membrane and the intracellular membrane-like structure. Therefore, it was thought that reduction of tellurate and T. T. C. took place in different parts. T. T. C. formazane formed in the cell was reoxidized by osmic acid which was used as a fixation reagent for the electron microscopic specimen preparation. As 95% T. T. C. formazane was soluble in ethanol and embedding materials and removed out of the cell, an originally formed formazane appeared as electron light part on the electron microscopic image.

  • In this study, cadmium telluride (CdTe) quantum dots were synthesized by using ultrasonic irradiation method. Optical properties and structural characteristics of the CdTe quantum dots were analyzed by two main variables; the ratio of the precursor and the synthesis time. As the synthesis time increased, the band gap reduction was observed with the growth of CdTe quantum dots. As for the luminescence properties, the red shift appeared at 510~610 nm wavelength range. Also, it was confirmed that the red shift occurs rapidly as the ratio of Te increases. According to PL peak intensity, the highest intensity was shown at 180 to 240 min. Structural characteristics of CdTe quantum dots were investigated through XRD and TEM, and the cubic zinc blend structure was observed. The size of quantum dots was about 2.5 nm and uniformly dispersed when the synthesis time took 210 min. In addition, the apparent crystallinity was discovered in FFT image.
