  • The purpose of this study is to compare a supposedly "pot boiler", Sanctuary and Sanctuary: The Original Text and examine the fact that Horace Benbow in The Original Text is a more complicated and many-sided character who has suppressed desire, Oedipus complex, sense of guilt for a long time, until he came to confront Temple-Popeye case. Since literary narration means unconscious procedure, Horace's incestuous love for his step daughter and Oedipal relation reveals Faulkner's own psychology. In this sense, The Original Text serves as a matrix of many of Faulkner's major novels in terms of themes, characters, and the relationship between past and present. Among these novels are The Sound and the Fury, As I Lay Dying, and Flags in the Dust. Faulkner, while writing about his own world creating Yoknapatawpha County, tries to portray characters with artistic value through whom he wanted to express the deep anxiety and turmoil of the 1920s. Starting with Horace Benbow, Quentin Compson, Darl Bundren and young Bayard Sartoris can be doubling through his major works, conveying author's profound despair in the context of modern world.

  • Our daily lives have changed a lot because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is essential to reduce the spread of COVID-19 due to public health measures such as social distancing. At the same time, however, they are exposed to depression, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, trauma and stress-related disorders. For this, we developed an application that can check HRV data and stress index by measuring ECG and PPG based on a Smart Watch device that can measure bio-signals in real time. In the case of the developed application, the heart rate is measured and displayed in real time to deliver basic exercise information by measuring exercise, steps and calories, and total distance, and smoothly based on blood pressure, heart rate, and HRV data as a measurement program. Through this, I believe that the IoT Smart Stress Care Application, which can manage mental health by itself, will be helpful to patients with stress and depressive trauma disorders.

  • This study was conducted to identify the mental health and quality of life of cardiovascular disease patients by their activities restriction through the second analysis of the 7th KNHANES collected from 2016 to 2018. The subjects of this study were 521 adults with angina or myocardial infarction who had no missing variables among 24,269 subjects. The difference between mental health and quality of life according to the activity restriction was analyzed by Chi-square method and the effect of mental health and quality of life by activity restriction by Logistic regression method using the SAS 9.4 version. The results of the analysis showed that the stress level, the depression for the last two weeks and suicide thought level was high when there was activity restriction, which had a significant effect on mental health. Mobility, selfcare and usual activities were disrupted, and pain/inconvenience and anxiety/depression increased when there was activity restriction, which also showed a significant effect on quality of life. Therefore, it is suggested that the development and operation of effective physical activity promotion program to minimize activity restriction is necessary to improve mental health and quality of life of cardiovascular patients.

  • The color gray in the cinema expresses the private or public memory and oblivion in the reminiscence scenes. The aesthetic function and meaning of gray that interacts with other elements in cinematic time and space are expanded in various ways. This study was analyzed the cases in which gray was used as the main visual style by limiting the scope to Korean films. Based on the traditional cultural symbolic meaning of gray, I analyzed how it was applied and transformed in films, and interpreted the cultural-social meaning by the interaction between gray and other elements. In film history starting from monochrome, gray has been used as a visual device suitable for realizing cinematic or imaginary reality. Gray is adopted when dreams or recollections are visualized as imaginary reality, and it is used when dreamy imaginations of daydreaming are demonstrated. Gray, which reproduces the dreamlike reality of imagination, is the concrete and realistic way of expression. First, in Korean films, gray is a flashback visual device that recalls the past, and is an intermediary visual form that materializes the imaginary. In films such as Ode to My Father (2014), DongJu (2015), A Resistance(2019) and The Battle : Roar to Victory (2019), the gray of the past is a visual device for cultural memory that builds the homogeneity and identity of the group. In the era of hyper-visibility, gray in black and white images is intended to be clearly remembered by unfamiliarity rather than blurry oblivion by familiarity. Second, in genre films with disaster materials such as Train To Busan (2016) and Ashfall (2019), the grays of rain, fog, clouds, shadows and smoke highlight other elements, and the gray color causes anxiety and fear. In war films such as TaeGukGi: Brotherhood Of War (2003) and The Front Line (2011), gray shows a more intense brutality than the primary color. In sports films such as 4th Place (2015), Take Off (2009) and Forever The Moment (2007), gray expresses uncertainty and immaturity. Third, gray visualizes the historical memory of A Petal (1996), the oblivion in Oh! My Gran (2020) and Poetry (2010), and the reality of daydreaming Gagman (1988) and Dream (1990). At the boundary between imagination and reality, gray is a visual form of dreams, memories and forgetfulness.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore methods to prevent and improve the problem of overdependence on smartphones by analyzing the differences in satisfaction with college life satisfaction of freshmen. For this, data on freshmen of KCYPS were extracted and used. The data were analyzed using non-hierarchical cluster(K-means) analysis, T-test, one-way ANOVA, and Scheffé tests. The results of this study are as follows. First, it has been shown that freshmen who are overdependent on smartphones experience inconvenience in their daily life, withdrawal and anxiety, and resistance. Second, there is no significant difference in the level of satisfaction with college life according to gender(t=-.015, p<.05). Third, it is shown that the level of satisfaction with college life of overdependent freshmen on smartphone is significantly lower compared to that of average and moderate dependent freshmen. Based on the results, it was suggested that university-level efforts such as emotional support and learning strategy support are needed for freshmen who are overdependent on smartphones.

  • There has been increased interest in researching risk perception of radiation to implement successful risk communication, particularly given the recent worldwide nuclear policy movement regarding nuclear energy. This study aimed to investigate characteristics of risk perception among residents living near normally operating nuclear power plants in South Korea by identifying factors associated with risk perception. A survey was conducted with face-to-face interviews for 1200 residents aged 20e84 years by gender- and age-stratified random sampling. Risk perception was associated with trust perception in nuclear safety, but was not highly correlated with benefit perception for utilizing nuclear power. Relatively high risk perception was observed in women, older age groups, and residents not having experience of nuclear-related education or work. This association remained after adjusting for other factors including benefit perception, trust perception, and psychological distress. In addition to these individual characteristics, risk perception was also associated with a residential district's own unique context, indicating that a strategy of risk communication should be developed differently for residents facing nuclear-related circumstances. Given that risk perception can be changed, depending on social values such as safety culture and economic setting, further studies are required to understand the changing characteristics of radiation risk perception.

  • With the recent rapid increase in single-person households, food companies are releasing small packaging and small-capacity products regardless of product line such as beverages, fresh foods, and home snacks, and food consumption patterns are also changing. Meanwhile, as a series of accidents related to food safety occurred during cost-effective consumption pursuing price-performance, more consumers wanted to choose products that have been proven safe even with higher money due to food safety anxiety. Considering the concept of 'safety' of food, this study by using the 'ordered probit model' empirically investigated whether there is a difference in the degree of preference for safety in food consumption behavior between single-person and multi-person households. Summarizing the results, it was found that women rather than men, and elderly households among young and single-person households had a higher demand for food safety. The results of marginal effects considering food safety variables show that respondents with low frequency of delivery and take-out use are considering food safety more, and that single-person households are considering safety more than multi-person households. In the future, the population structure of Korea will continue to increase in single-person and elderly households, and women's economic activities will also continue to increase. Therefore, the growing home convenience food market needs marketing strategies to secure and emphasize food safety, such as sterilizing treatment technology for hygiene and safe container development from environmental hormones, and needs a lot of support and attention to meet changes in food culture trends and demographic structure.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a training protocol to standardize the management of mass casualties as part of the disaster response, and to verify the effectiveness of the training protocol. Methods: The study was conducted as a quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group and pretest-posttest design. The protocol was divided into 5 parts, the first for the advance party, the second for the rescue team, the third for the paramedic team, the fourth for the ambulance team, and the fifth for the 119 EMS team. This study was conducted on November 15, 2021 and consisted of 21 subjects in the final experimental group and 23 subjects in the control group. In this study, the prior homogeneity test was analyzed using the χ2-test, intragroup comparisons were analyzed using the paired t-test, and intragroup comparisons were analyzed using the independent t-test. Results: The protocol was developed in five parts: advance party, rescue team, paramedics team, ambulance team, and 119 EMS team. In verifying the effectiveness of the protocol, it was found that there were significant differences in self-efficacy (t=-0.941, p=0.001) and self confidence within the group (t=-0.025, p=0.001) after the implementation of the mass casualty incident response training program. However, there was no significant difference between the experimental and control groups. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, it is believed that disaster response personnel can experience lower levels of anxiety and tension in disaster situations if they receive practical and realistic education and training. In the future, it is necessary to enhance protocol based practical education that can improve the knowledge and skills of each team and individual.
