Organizational Learning as Catalyst to Technological Innovation

  • With rapid change and intensive competition in the global economy, the capability to capture, absorb, develop, and transfer new knowledge is a key organizational success factor. Through effective learning, companies are more likely to develop the innovation, quality, and responsiveness essential to meet the growing expectations of customers and the disruptive threats of competitors and new technologies. In the paper the role of technological innovation and its relationship to organizational learning in managing technology-based new products are examined. Several factors which can influence the rate and effectiveness of organizational learning are identified. Barriers to learning also are discussed. Finally, several managerial implications and propositions for future research on learning and technological innovation are advanced.

Assessment of technological characteristics and microbiological quality of marinated turkey meat with the use of dairy products and lemon juice

  • Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of marinating turkey meat with buttermilk and acid whey on the technological traits and microbiological quality of the product. Methods: Slices of turkey meat muscles were marinated for 12 hours in buttermilk (n = 30), acid whey (n = 30) and comparatively, in lemon juice (n = 30). The control group (n = 30) consisted of unmarinated slices of turkey breast muscles. Physical parameters (pH, water holding capacity, colour L*a*b*, shear force, weight loss) were assessed and quantitative and qualitative microbiological evaluation of raw and roasted products was performed. The microbiological parameters were determined as the total viable counts of mesophilic aerobic bacteria, of the Enterobacteriaceae family, and Pseudomonas spp. Bacterial identification was performed by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Results: Marinating turkey meat in buttermilk and whey compared to marinating in lemon juice and the control sample resulted in a higher (p<0.05) degree of yellow color saturation (b*) and a reduction (p<0.05) in the number of mesophilic aerobic bacteria, Pseudomonas spp. and Enterobacteriaceae family as well as the number of identified mesophilic aerobic bacteria in both raw and roasted samples. The lowest (p<0.05) shear force values were found in products marinated in whey. Conclusion: The use of buttermilk and acid whey as a marinade for meat increases the microbiological safety of the product compared to marinating in lemon juice, while maintaining good technological features of the product.

TAGUCHI OPTIMIZATION OF DISPLACEMENTS DURING THE DESIGN PHASE OF A CONSTRUCTION PROJECT

  • The prediction of quality characteristics during the design phase of a construction project was fragmented, because no particular method exists. One of the most important key responses is the total displacements (horizontal and vertical). A brainstorming session produces the quality parameters i.e. the control factors which here are identified as: the steel joint, the pile's length, the excavation depth and angle, the distance between the piles, the anchor stretch and length to name just some of the most engaging in the design. The purpose of this study is to optimise these parameters to minimize the total displacements following a methodology based on Taguchi method. For this reason, a 2-level, L8 orthogonal array has been employed to organize the experimentation. Data is obtained from a real-life excavation project designed on the Plaxis v.8 CAE package. Taguchi analysis is performed in the statistical package Minitab.

  • 정보사회에서의 정보혁명은 많은 분야에서 전통적으로 행하던 업무 프로세스의 변화를 가져왔고 이러한 프로세스를 기반으로 21세기 지식정보사회의 패러다임이 새롭게 형성되어가고 있다. 이러한 환경변화 속에서 ISO 9000은 조직의 품질관리시스템을 개발하기 위한 국제적인 표준이 되었다. 효과적인 품질관리시스템은 기업의 제품 또는 서비스가 언제든지 고객의 요구를 충족시켜 줄 수 있는 환경을 제공하기 때문이다. 이러한 이유로 인해 근래에 정보 유통 서비스 분야의 품질향상을 위한 품질경영시스템의 도입에 대한 연구가 진행되어지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 지식정보의 유통과 서비스에 있어서 질적인 향상을 위한 노력의 일환으로 지식정보 유통${\cdot}$서비스 분야의 품질체계를 확립하는 ISO 9001:2000 인증제도의 도입과 운영에 대한 방향 및 사례를 제시함으로써 지식정보 유통${\cdot}$서비스 품질향상에 도움이 되고자 한다.

  • Stakeholder management in construction projects is an important factor in project performance creation. The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of the recognition of the importance of the quality influence factors among the stakeholders of the construction project on the perceived quality and the project performance. The impact of the project management methodology on the project performance has been actively researched, but there is little research result on the project stakeholders. The projects to be researched are apartments and buildings that have been completed within the last five years of domestic large construction company. The method of survey is to measure the consensus of the importance of the quality influential factors among the three parties such as the ordering party, the design supervisor and the constructor, and confirm whether the agreement affects the quality of the actual project. Finally, the research model was verified by surveying the satisfaction of the client on the final product. The results are as follow. The degree of agreement on the importance of quality influential factors among stakeholders has a significant effect on perceived quality. In the relationship between perceived quality of influence factors, organizational (support) quality influenced technological quality and managerial quality, and technological quality and managerial quality also have significant influence on resource quality. The results of analysis showed that perceived quality of resources strongly influenced project performance. The remaining three experienced qualities also significantly affect project performance.

Production of multipurpose cotton fabrics to improve the quality of aerobic and dance sportswear

  • The production of multipurpose cotton fabrics aimed at elevating the quality of aerobic and dance sportswear is explored in this study. Powder metallurgy, known for its high efficiency in manufacturing technological components with minimal waste, is employed as a method for fabricating brush ferrules for painting. The utilization of iron-copper material, prepared through powder metallurgy, enhances the strength and quality of the brush ferrules. A microscopic analysis reveals a robust interconnection between the particles of each layer achieved through isostatic pressure, resulting in a favorable microstructure. The relative density and strength of parts produced from copper-iron powder exhibit an increase with higher pressure levels. The application of this material in brush ferrules ensures their durability and longevity, thereby supporting the creation of artwork. The evolution of art over time reflects changing ideas and possibilities, and technological advancements have significantly improved artistic tools. The role of tools in artistic expression is paramount, and the integration of powder metallurgy materials in brush ferrules fortifies their artistic importance. In summary, this study underscores the advantages of powder metallurgy in augmenting the quality of art tools and facilitating artistic creation.

기업의 기술과 시장지향성이 기술협력 및 경영성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effects of Market and Technological Orientation of Companies upon Technological Cooperation and Management Performance)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 기업이 제품개발 위해 활용하는 기술협력요인을 분석한 후에 기술과 시장지향성이 기술협력과 경영성과에 영향을 미치는지를 파악하고자 한다. 또한 구분된 기술협력요인이 경영성과에 미치는 영향을 체계적으로 파악하여 경영자 및 정책결정자의 기술협력에 관한 의사결정을 돕도록 하는 것이다. 본 연구는 첫째, 기업의 기술과 시장지향성 요인이 기술협력에 어떠한 영향을 주는지를 분석하였다. 분석결과, 기술협력은 기술과 시장지향성요인에 의해서 영향을 받는 것으로 분석되었다. 이는 기업이 기술과 시장지향성을 추구할 때, 기술과 시장의 다차원적인 요인을 고려함으로써 전략적으로 기술협력이 필요함을 의미한다. 둘째, 기업의 기술협력이 경영성과에 영향을 미치는지를 분석하였다. 분석결과, 기업은 기술협력 정도에 따라서 경영성과에 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 이는 경영성과의 질을 높이기 위해서는 기업의 기술협력 체계를 구축하는 것이 중요함을 의미한다. 셋째, 기술과 시장지향성이 경영성과에 어떠한 구조적인 관계를 통해서 영향을 미치는지를 분석하였다. 분석결과, 기술과 시장지향성은 경영성과에 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되어, 이는 기업의 경영성과를 향상시키기 위해서는 기술과 시장지향성 추구할 수 있는 관심과 환경을 조성해야 함을 의미한다.

  • The purpose of this study is to figure out the impacts of technological innovation and cost management on productivity in small shipping industries to come up with developmental implications. To achieve this, a survey was carried out to 150 workers in small shipbuilding industries through April 2 to April 20, 2012. As for findings stated above, technological innovation and cost management in the Korean small shipbuilding industries were key factors that elevate financial and non-financial productivity. In the light of low technological prowess and cost structure of small shipbuilding industries, their productivity can be improved when intensive cost management with production factor technology as know-how is realized through quality management, which product development technology is the top priority as an independent niche strategy. Consequently, the combination of infrastructures in small shipbuilding industries with continuous efforts for cost reduction by the link to the systematized structure can't only secure their independent competitiveness, but raise their productivity.

  • This Paper analyses characteristics of the numerical controller industry in market formation and the flow of information between users and producers and the characteristic of knowledge base of the industry and discusses the difficulties derived, from the characteristics, in accumulation of technological capability In market formation between users and producers, the multi-layered market is not favorable to domestic producers in that lower end market is not large enough to provide cradle market to them which produce inferior quality and lower price than imported products. The credibility of the performance of a product is difficult to prove until a critical mass of products are sold. Therefore gaining market share is deterred by unproven credibility of the performance of the product. The flow of information between users and producers is limited. The flow of information on users environment through mass market to producers is essential for improving credibility of a product. The nature of knowledge base is tacit and the means of knowledge transmission is limited. Technological licensing and reverse engineering, which have been conventional means of knowledge transmission, are not useful in the numerical controller industry. These characteristics provide conditions of vicious circle in accumulation of technological capability of the numerical controller industry. It is conjectured that these characteristics are derived from the fact that the numerical controller is the result of IT based technological convergence in controlling machining process. This paper argues that these characteristics of the industry challenges existing approach to R&D management and framework of science and technology Policy.

기술적인 화질 지표 조절양 최적화를 통한 감성 화질 향상 방안 (Methodologies to Improve Emotional Image Qualities by Optimizing Technological Image Quality Metrics)

  • 다양한 이미지 샘플의 Eye test를 바탕으로 기술적인 화질 지표 조절을 통하여 감성 화질을 최적화 시키는 방법이 소개된다. 여러 가지 이미지 콘텐츠의 다양한 이미지에 대하여, 콘트라스트, 명도, 채도 화질 지표 톤 커브를 사용하여 평가가 수행 되었다. 이미지 화질 향상에 기여하는 우선순위는 명암, 채도 및 밝기 순으로 분석 되었다. 이미지 감성 화질 측정치의 기술적인 화질 지표 변화에 따른 기울기의 공통점을 살펴본 결과, 거의 0, 중간 그리고 최대 기울기의 영역으로 구성된 함수 형태로 모델링을 할 경우, 기존의 역 U 형태의 성질 뿐 아니라 log 또는 포화 형태의 감성 화질 변화까지 분석 가능함을 알 수 있었다. 단일 및 복수의 화질 지표의 경우에 대하여도 화질 개선 방안이 모색되었으며, 기존 및 본 논문에서 분석된 결과를 위한 새로운 함수가 소개 되었다. 복수의 통합적 이미지 화질 지표를 통하여 향상 시킬 경우 오직 몇몇 한정된 지표 제어의 경우에만 실현 가능하다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 화질 향상 방법은 영상 콘텐츠에 따라 크게 차이가 없음을 알 수 있었다.
