As society proceeds rapidly toward a knowledge-oriented stage, knowledge as an intangible asset has gained increasing importance. Companies increase their competitiveness and generate extra value through continuous investments in the management of intellectual property (IP). Thus, the prime concerns of companies have been protection of their technological innovation output through filing for IP rights, and maximization of their interests through utilization of intangible assets. Despite the importance of technological innovation in the management of a company, few studies have analyzed the key factors in the management of IP and activities for technological innovation. This study aims to derive policy implications for managing IP and effective capacity building for technological innovation. For this purpose, the author has employed empirical tests to identify the major factors influencing the direction of technological innovations in a company.

Knowledge-based exporting companies in Korea have reached a stage to develop new technological innovation and to pioneer new markets. But, developing new technologies and launching new products require an enormous sum of money for Research and Development(R&D) and there is still uncertainty in technological development and markets. Therefore, through open technological innovation, they are encouraged to actively use external technological sources and ideas. They also need to enhance the efficiency of the relatively little R&D investment. In this paper, firstly, it conducts a precedent study on the concept and influence factors of knowledge-based exporting companies and open technological innovation. Secondly, it sets a study model and estimates a regression coefficient to analyze the influence factors of open technological innovation of knowledge-based exporting companies which are using external resources on the process of innovation. Through case study and empirical analysis, we are going to find the implication of open technological innovation and prepare the way of the innovation for the knowledge-based exporting companies. According to the empirical analysis, variables such as firm size, processing degree, product life, patent registration, maintaining internal security didn't have positive effects on open innovation performance. On the other hand, research capability and market preoccupancy had positive effects. Therefore, to succeed in open innovation, knowledge-based exporting companies not only need to secure research capability through open innovation, but also need to preoccupy the market through commercialization of developed product.

본 연구는 지금까지 해외 및 국내에서 진행되어온 표준(standards)과 기술혁신(technological innovation)의 연관성에 대한 연구동향과 주요 연구과제를 파악하고 전망한다. 먼저 표준과 기술혁신의 상호작용에 관한 쟁점을 다루고 혁신단계별 및 혁신유형별로 표준의 역할과 관련된 쟁점들을 파악한 다음, 거시적 및 제도적 차원에서 표준과 기술혁신의 관계를 다룬다. 이를 토대로 기술혁신연구 금번 특집호에 실린 표준 관련 논문들을 구분하고 소개한다. 마지막으로 표준과 기술혁신에 대한 향후 연구과제를 전망한다. 아직도 국내에서 표준 및 표준화에 대한 경제적 측면에서의 연구가 매우 미흡한 상황에서 본 연구는 연구동기를 자극할 뿐만 아니라 앞으로의 연구방향을 제시할 수 있을 것이다.

This study aims at integrating the sociological study of technology and the economic study of technological learning. It is argued that the sociological approaches of innovation have some strong points in criticizing technological determinism, but have some weak points in explaining how the knowledge base for innovation is accumulated. On the contrary, the economic approaches of innovation have strong points in explaining technology accumulation, but ignore socio-political process of innovation. This study suggests the model which integrates the socio-political process and technological loaming process.

Although a wide range of theoretical researches have emphasized on the importance of knowledge management in cooperative R&D network, the empirical researches to synthetically examine the role of organizational learning and open innovation which influence on the performance of technological innovation are not enough to meet academic and practical demands. This study is to investigate the effect of open innovation and organizational learning in venture business on technological competitive advantage and establish the mediating role of organizational learning. For the purpose, the questionnaires, made based on the reviewing previous researches, were collected from 274 Korean venture businesses whose managerial focus is on developing technological innovation. As a result of analysis, the relational dimensions of open innovation - network, intensity and trust shared by a firm with external R&D partners - as well as the internal organizational learning system and competence have positive influence on building technological competitive advantage whose sub-variables are technological excellence, market growth potential and business feasibility. In addition, it is identified that organizational learning has the mediating and moderating effect in the relationship between open innovation and technological competitive advantage. These results imply that open innovation complements and expend the range of limited resources and the scope of innovation in technology-intensive small and medium-sized enterprises. Besides, organizational learning activity reinforces the use of knowledge and resources, obtained from external R&D partners. On the basis of these results, detailed issues and discussion were made in the conclusion.

Purpose: This study addressed the relationship between technological innovation activity and management efficiency of Korean automobile firms. We tested the hypothesis of non-liner relationship of innovation activity in relation to management efficiency. Methods: We discussed prior literature in the firm innovation strategy and management efficiency studies to provide better understanding of relationships between technological innovation activity and management efficiency. As a result, we developed develop and tested a model (Inverted-U shaped) capturing the non-linear impact of technological innovation activity. While we used R&D expenditure and patent registration data for measuring firms' innovation activity, management efficiency was evaluated by using DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis). Results: Main findings of our empirical analysis indicated that the relationships between technological innovation activity and management efficiency was inverted U shaped. This implied that the relationship between technological innovation and management efficiency is inverted U-shaped non-linear, with management efficiency increasing up to a point, beyond which higher levels of R&D and patent registration activities led to a decrease in management efficiency. Conclusion: This study empirically assessed the inconclusive findings of previous research in the area of effects of innovation activities in relation to firm performance. The paper also provided theoretical and practical implications for firms who explore efficient strategy to promote the management performance through technological innovation activities. Future research directions with the limitation of the study was discussed.

The aim of paper is to develop an alternative framework for the study of technological innovation systems. In contrast with conventional literature, this analytical framework is designed for entrepreneurs, i.e. actors, at the micro level rather than policy-makers at the meso or macro level. Herein, the entrepreneurial innovation system is conceptually refined by synthesizing knowledge regarding technological innovation and innovation systems. Drawing upon the intrinsic technological identity essential for innovation, the entrepreneurial innovation system is shown to involve three core changes in terms of technology, organization and market, and their couplings within its internal boundary over time. This analytical framework also takes into account the fact that the innovation system is influenced by and copes with the external environment during its evolution. Moreover, the framework of the entrepreneurial innovation system considers the recent trend of sustainable development. The technical and socio-economic characteristics of a nuclear powersystem are studied empirically to articulate an analytical framework that should be very useful for technological innovation in other energy systems by reflecting their unique features.

Innovation Policy has evolved to solve social problems through technological innovation. Industrial innovation policy promotes technological innovation so that it consolidates industrial competitiveness and aims at economic growth; however, societal innovation policy promotes technological innovation in the social service domain to improve the quality of life and strengthen sustainability. A different policy regime is required because the objectives and directions of societal innovation policy are different from those of industrial innovation policy. This report consolidates the concepts and characteristics of societal innovation policy that suggest policy options.

Lately, knowledge-based society comes, it is important for enterprises to creatively utilize knowledge of technology for technological innovation. So, Technological innovation capacity of enterprises is important factor of business success. To improve technological innovation capacity, enterprises should well utilize their internal knowledges and external knowledges which come from technological diffusion. To well utilize external knowledges of enterprises they should well understand external knowledge flow. Especially knowledge flow also occurs frequently between nations, understanding of knowledge flow which occurs between nations is important to improve nation`s technological innovation capacity. So this paper presents comparison of technological innovation capacity and knowledge diffusion flow between nations.

Technological innovation is one of the critical success factors determining firm's Technological innovation is one of the critical success factors determining firm's value in the knowledge based economy. The study examines whether the information release on technological innovation has information contents in the stock market. The abnormal returns and cumulative abnormal return were calculated by using Market and Risk Adjusted Return Model. The results say that the market positively reacts to the information release of technological innovation on the event date. Especially, the disclosure on technology development causes stable increase of the firm's value. It is concluded that the market reacts favorably to technological innovations.
