  • Using the genetic algorithm, the optimal-design technique of the Nielsen arch bridge was proposed in this paper. The design parameters were the arch-rise ratio and the steel weight ratio of the Nielsen arch bridge, and optimal-design techniques were utilized to analyze the behavior of the bridge. The optimal parameter values were determined for the estimated optimal level. The parameter determination requires the standardization of the safety, utility, and economic concepts as the critical factors of a structure. For this, a genetic algorithm was used, whose global-optimal-solution search ability is superior to the optimization technique, and whose object function in the optimal design is the total weight of the structure. The constraints for the optimization were displacement, internal stress, and time and space. The structural analysis was a combination of the small displacement theory and the genetic algorithm, and the runtime was reduced for parallel processing. The optimal-design technique that was developed in this study was employed and deduced using the optimal arch-rise ratio, steel weight ratio, and optimal-design domain. The optimal-design technique was presented so it could be applied in the industry.

  • Earth Anchor method as a supporting system is widely used in the large scale deep excavation of urban areas or slope excavation project. Considering the application frequency of that method and catastrophe of that method under unproper construction management, we can find out many problems relevant to the domestic design and construction management of earth anchor method. When we encounter the cases of rapid increments and various decrements in earth anchor axial forces, considering the characteristic of earth anchor method, it is an essential point to catch the reasons and to prepare countermeasures. This article introduces two actual monitoring examples based on the close analyses of measured data in a typical large scale deep excavation project and slope excavation project. One is a rapidly increasing case of earth anchor axial forces with the continuous advance of incremental deformation in a geological layer interface. And another is a decreasing case of earth anchor axial forces with the construction conditions. The effort of this article aims to improve and develop the technique of design and construction in the coming projects having similar ground condition and supporting method.

  • The stiffness design method is presented as a drift control model of steel structures and applied to design of space trusses subjected to stress and displacement constraints. The stiffness design method is developed by integrating the resizing techniques for an effective drift control algorithm with the strength design process according to the commonly used design specifications such as allowable stress design. In the resizing technique the amount of material to be modified depends on the member displacement participation factors and is determined by an optimization technique. Using the stiffness design method, a structural design model for steel structures is proposed and applied to two verifying examples. As demonstrated in the examples, the displacement of the structures can be effectively controlled without expensive computational cost.

  • The construction of Pusan National University Yangsan Hospital is a new construction of a medical town in Yangsan. It is a case that CMr participated in the project from planning to post-completion. It shows an actual proof of Construction Management business applied CM by each phase. In this case, CMr selected the design-build contractor in the planning phase and technically performed CM businesses in every single phase such as design and construction schedule management regarding application of Fast Track technique, procurement management and contract administration in phases based on the Fast-tract; technique, design review, VE in the design phase, change order management in the construction phase and operating and maintenance in the post-construction phase. This study would go far toward applying CM to Mega Turnkey projects by analyzing the problems of CMr's practical application to the project and providing guidelines for effective and efficient CM business implementation especially in the Turnkey projects.

  • The engine excitation forces are considered as major vibration source for the forklift truck, especially in small class. Even though the current engine mounting system designs are acceptable for vibration isolation, the performance of the engine mounting system is still required for the tendency of light weight, higher power and driver's higher vibration requirement. In this paper vibration reduction technique of forklift engine which is supported on rubber mounts is presented. Based on the dynamic model of resilient engine mounting system, design evaluation program is established. The design optimization technique and evaluation method of system properties are discussed. Effects of optimal design are validated through comparison with test results.

  • In the last several decades of 20 century, the user oriented design concept has evolved in more concrete ways, producing POE and UPD(User Participated design). These concepts are ways of achieving the fit between built environments and human needs. These, technique in the digital world has implied and promoted lots of experimental ways to interact with possible users before the construction stages in the design process to reduce the results, stemming from ineffective planning and designing. The purpose of this paper is to show an evaluation technique in the design cycle. An actually designed child care facility was evaluated before construction by potential users. For this purpose, focused group interview was employed.

  • This paper describes typical design and construction practice for in-situ ground reinforcement technique using improved steel pipe pressure grouting. A case history is presented to illustrate the benefit gained by application of the technique. This technique was applied to cut slopes developed in the construction of auxiliary spillway of 00 dam. Applicable conditions, method of survey, slope stability analysis and construction are given in this parer. As for the construction method, a procedure is given and the main points are the control of construction work. As a result of the pull-out test, it is shown that seel pipe nailing is particularly useful for stabilizing rock slope.

  • Design is an act based on multidisciplinary information. The involvement of various stakeholders makes it difficult to process, plan, and integrate. Iteration is frequent in most of the engineering design and development projects including construction. Design iterations cause rework, and extra efforts are required to get the optimal sequence and to manage the projects. The simple project management techniques are insufficient to fulfill the requirements of integrated design. This paper entails two things: design structure matrix and design parameters' information based model. The emphasis has been given to optimal sequence and crucial iteration using design structure matrix analysis technique. The design projects have been studied using survey data from industry. The optimal sequence and crucial iterations results have been utilized for proposed model. Model integrates two things: information about produced- required key design parameters and information of design changes during the design process. It will help to get familiar with Design management in order to fulfill contemporary needs.

  • The study figures out the alternatives of training BIM design experts which is the biggest obstacle in training manpower of professional BIM designer, the largest problem when the plant introduce BIM design about the change in Construction Environment by Equipment Based BIM Design in reality of design followed by equipment based BIM design, education institution plan. BIM is the system which is built to make these information be used easier and technique which enables design construction and maintenance in 3-dimensional virtual space by designing buildings in 3-dimensional space, and by data-basing the generated information of every life-cycle information. As the essential contents of the study, educational institutions with the public authority should invest the opening of educational programs, recruit of experts and development of textbooks from a long-term perspective. And also, the role of public institution is important above all for the development of construction industry.
