There have been about 450 atomic frequency standards (or atomic clocks) launched into orbit for the use on communications and scientific payloads since 1970's. GPS satellites carry on-board Rubidium and Cesium atomic frequency standards which are utilized for the precise positioning and timing. The evolving technologies of space qualified atomic frequency standards have enhanced in the performance, reliability, and lifetime of satellites. In this paper we describe the fundamentals and performance of the atomic frequency standards, and introduce the atomic frequency standards which are presently on-board various satellites systems. We also present the GPS time scale and its applications.

Electric motor systems account for more than half of all electric systems and the amount of energy consumption of those is almost 70 percent of total energy consumption of electric motor systems in industry. As electric motor systems are very responsible for global electricity savings and environment protection. Many international organizations are supporting standards and policy development processes to improve the efficiency of electric motor systems. Many standards are being developed at technical committee of IEC that has been required in order to support the implementation of efficiency regulations. High efficiency standards and levels for electric motor systems are slowly being introduced and compulsory in many countries. Therefore understanding the international efficiency evaluation standards and the regulation of electric motor systems of each country is important. This paper presents the current status and trends of international evaluation standards and regulations about the efficiency of electric motor systems.

This study was designed to survey misused expression in 37 KS (Korean Industrial standards) related to personal protective equipment. The results were as follows: 1. One hundred and twenty five misused expressions were found - 44 expressions were used illogically (35.2 %). 80 expressions were wrongly described (64.0 %) The types of illogically misused are: 10 illogical cases, 4 cases of a wrongly designated provision when cited, 12 cases of the lack of provisons for KS, 7 cases of a inappropriate uses of units, 8 cases of an overlapped sizes between standards. - The types of expressions wrongly described are: 30 cases of confusion in using an terms, 4 case of making an error when proofreading, and 29 cases of choosing words not appropriate to describe technical standard, 18 cases of unclear provisons due to missing phrases and terms, and 11 cases of provisons described differently from original intended purposes. 2. There is one case, where the same standard is categorized as two different names. There are three major causes of the misused expressions as seen from the following summary: - Imitated the developed countries' standards without filtering them by considering domestic law and ocher KS standards. - Tended to create each definition for each standard instead use of the basic standard. - Insufficiency of synthetic examination to the correlation between standards.

Our country is projected the technical development studies, constructed the digital maps, developed standards, established rules, and educated users during the first NGIS plan. This National Geospatial Information Infrastructure is proceeding with the program as arranged. In the second NGIS plan, our government try to construct the framework data for the maximization of GIS utilization. But National Geospatial Information Infrastructure included some problems from view of data framework particularly. In this paper, we make a comparative study of foreign countries, analyze the cause of our problem, and present the standards for Korean National Spatial Data Infrastructure.

To prevent the potential health detriment to the public from radioactive effluents, radiological dose assessments due to the operation of nuclear facilities located at Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) site has been performed semiannually in compliance with the Minister of Science and Technology (MOST)'s Notice in Korea. Radiological dose assessment based on the new recommendation of the International Committee on Radiation Protection (ICRP-60) has been conducted since 1998. In this manuscript, a serial activities at KAERI site to meet the regulatory standards for routine releases of radioactive effluents are introduced and discussed including technical approaches. It is clear that each nuclear facility has been operated in compliance with regulatory standards. Furthermore, it is identified that the radiation induced health effects for residents around the site are neglectable.

The goal of this paper is mainly to review and summarize the multimedia information formats and technical standards that have been applied so that library and information specialists can understand them systematically. The most fundamental differences between digital library and the classic one are specified by describing the general characteristics of hypermedia information environment. With the proprietary advantages of multimedia technology to digital library developments, the core technological standards (publicly available) of text and non-text data, including multimedia data, are reviewed. Finally, it describes some important and professional perspectives and roles of library practioners as well as researchers who are engaged with the innovation of digital library.

After laws for recycling promotion of construction wastes was established on December, 2003, successive technical and institutional measures related to construction wastes are driven. Typically quality standards for recycled aggregate were enacted and officially announced, and recently the quality assurance system for recycled aggregate is promoted to be established. In relation, this study reviewed major factors affecting certification examination necessary to carry out quality assurance system for recycled aggregate and related standards to guarantee the quality of recycled aggregate. More specifically it is suggested that working place examination related to manufacturing facility and planning, quality control manpower and system, environmental and safety control, etc, and quality inspection with classified by for road construction, for concrete, and for asphalt concrete are used as quality assurance standards.

The purpose of this study is to develop the standards for construction documents. The standards will facilitate efficient exchange and sharing of construction documents among the participants such as owners, designers, constructors and other related parts throughout construction work process. For this reason, this study is intended to define the requirements for establishing XML-based electronic document standardization system, and to prepare the plan for developing XML electronic document in a consistent way.

지난 4월, 향후 유럽 정보사회를 겨냥한 효율적 표준화 추진을 위해 TFIG(Task Force Implementation Group)에서 제안한 ETSI(European Telecommunications Standards Institute)의 표준화 조직구조 개편 요구에 따라 기존 ETSI의 기술 총회(TA : Technical Assembly)는 지난 25차 회의를 마지막으로 그간의 기술총회 활동을 마감하고 새로이 25명으로 구성된 이사회(Board) 체계로 변경되어진다. 이에 본 고에서는 지난 96년 10월에 열렸던 마지막 기술총회 참석 결과를 정리하고, 새로운 ETSI 조직 구조 변경에 따른 변화를 살펴보고자 한다.
