[Purpose] Functional beverages are intended to support those who want to maintain optimal physical condition and improve their quality of life through the enhancement of heart health, immunity, and digestion. The purpose of this study was to investigate the performance of top-level athletes consuming immune-strengthening conditioning nutritional drinks. [Methods] A total of 107 top-level athletes (baseball (56 players), pro volleyball (17), athletics (16), cycling (8), golf (6), and fencing (6)) participated in the experiment. They consumed an immune-enhancing functional beverage once a day for 8 weeks and responded to a survey before, during, and after drinking the beverage. [Results] Three total aspect-based subfactors were drawn from 24 questions in the factor analysis: physical, satisfaction with mental stability, and activity in performance. The physical, mental stability and performance changes of athletes significantly increased in period 2 (4 weeks after intake) and period 3 (after 8 weeks of intake). [Conclusion] We evaluated the efficacy of a new conditioned beverage containing Lactobacillus B240 and protein in improving the performance and physiological utility of top athletes. This functional drink may gain popularity among those seeking health benefits and improved exercise performance.
1, 1-dichloroethylene (DCE) is well known hepatotoxicant as a model acute hepatotoxicity and selectively injure the bile canalicular membrane of centrilobular hepatocytes. In this study, we investigated hepatic gene expression and histopathological changes in response to DCE treatment. DCE was administered once daily at 20 mg/kg up to 14 days via intraperitoneal injection. Five mice were used in each test group and were sacrificed at 1, 7, and 14 days. Serum biochemical and histopathological analysis were performed for evaluation of hepatotoxicity level. Direct bilirubin and total bilirubin activities were slightly elevated in treated group at 7 days. DCE treatment for 7 days resulted in centrilobular hepatocyte hypertrophy and hepatocyte vacuolation, and mild hepatocyte vacuolation and high hepatocyte basophilia were observed in 14 days treated group. One hundred twenty three up-regulated genes and 445 down-regulated genes with over 2-fold changes between treated and control group at each time point were used for pathway analysis. These data may contribute in understanding the molecular mechanism DCE-induced hepatotoxicity.
A variety of input parameters are taken into consideration while performing a Level 3 PSA. Some parameters related to plume segments, spatial grids, and particle size distribution have flexible input formats. Fine modeling performed by splitting a number of segments or grids may enhance the accuracy of analysis but is time-consuming. Analysis speed is highly important because a considerably large number of calculations is required to handle Level 2 PSA scenarios for a single-unit or multi-unit Level 3 PSA. This study developed a sensitivity analysis supporting interface called MACCSsense to compare the results of the trials of plume segmentation with the results of the base case to determine its impact (in terms of time and accuracy) and to support the development of a modeling approach, which saves calculation time and improves accuracy. MACCSense is an automation tool that uses a large amount of plume segmentation analysis results obtained from MUST Converter and Mr. Manager developed by KAERI to generate a sensitivity report that includes impact (time and accuracy) by comparing them with the base-case result. In this study, various plume segmentation approaches were investigated, and both the accuracy and speed of offsite consequence analysis were evaluated using MACCS as a consequence analysis tool. A simultaneous evaluation revealed that execution time can be reduced using multi-threading. In addition, this study can serve as a framework for the development of a modeling strategy for plume segmentation in order to perform accurate and fast offsite consequence analyses.
In order to understand job burnout, it is necessary to consider not only the working environment according to the market environment but also the social situation of the team or the organization. This study analyzed the effects of job demands and job resources on job burnout based on JD-R theory. In other words, the team-level variables, servant leadership and HRM control types, were tested for the effect of moderating the individual workload, emotional labor and job burnout. The results of empirical analysis showed that the higher the self-efficacy, the less job burnout, whereas the higher the workload and emotional labor, the more job burnout. Second, the more positive the team level input and result oriented HRM are, the less positive regression relation of workload and job burnout is. Finally, it was found that the intensity of the regression relation of negative self-efficacy and job burnout was amplified in the team with servant leadership.
Silicon carbide (SiC) has emerged as a promising material for next-generation power semiconductor materials, due to its high thermal conductivity and high critical electric field (~3 MV/cm) with a wide bandgap of 3.3 eV. This permits SiC devices to operate at lower on-resistance and higher breakdown voltage. However, to improve device performance, advanced research is still needed to reduce point defects in the SiC epitaxial layer. This work investigated the electrical characteristics and defect properties using DLTS analysis. Four deep level defects generated by the implantation process and during epitaxial layer growth were detected. Trap parameters such as energy level, capture-cross section, trap density were obtained from an Arrhenius plot. To investigate the impact of defects on the device, a 2D TCAD simulation was conducted using the same device structure, and the extracted defect parameters were added to confirm electrical characteristics. The degradation of device performance such as an increase in on-resistance by adding trap parameters was confirmed.
In order to provide information for proper management of groundwater resources, an analysis of the effects of precipitation and groundwater withdrawal on groundwater levels is needed. In this study, we analyzed the correlation of precipitation-groundwater level and groundwater withdrawal-groundwater level using time series data converted by normalized standard deviation (Nor.St.Dev) and cross correlation coefficient (CCC) for nine groundwater monitoring wells in the middle mountainous area in the southeastern Jeju Island. First, the CCCs of precipitation-groundwater level were estimated using daily time series data, and the low CCCs of up to 0.3 were obtained. However, the result of using the Nor.St.Dev showed a clearer correlation by obtaining a CCC of up to 0.8. In addition, in most cases, precipitation variability and groundwater level variability had positive CCCs, whereas groundwater withdrawal variability and groundwater level variability had negative CCCs. Therefore, the groundwater level in this study area was largely influenced by precipitation with little effect of groundwater withdrawal. Lastly, as a result of analyzing the relative effects of Seongpanak and Gyorae rainfall station on the groundwater level, the rainfall at the relatively downstream Gyorae rainfall station has more influence. The analysis method used in this study can be easily used for analyzing the effects of precipitation and groundwater withdrawal on groundwater level variability in other regions in the future.

This paper presents an optimal design process using beads on a body panel to improve interior noise of a passenger vehicle. Except modification of structural members, it is difficult to find effective countermeasures that can work for the intermediate frequency range from 100 Hz to 300 Hz which lies between the booming and low medium frequency. In this study, it is a major goal to find additional counter-measures for this intermediate frequency range by performing optimal design of beads on body panels. The proposed method for design optimization consists of 4 sub-steps, that is, a) problem definition, b) cause analysis, c) countermeasure development and d) validation. The objective function is minimization of interior noise level. The major design variables are the geometrical shape of a bead and combination of beads on the critical panels. Sensitivity analysis and optimization are performed according to the predefined process for an optimal design. It is verified that the proposed design decreases the level of noise transfer function above 5 dB.
Because it is difficult to respond to a constantly changing environment with individual ability and creativity alone, many organizations are forming teams and seeking ways to make the teams more active. Team learning behavior allows team members to and create better performance based on such accumulated knowledge and experience within a team. In particular, the process of team learning not only explicit and formalized knowledge but also implicit and informal experiences is important from the perspective of knowledge management. However, there were limitations in utilizing research results on team learning behavior because the concepts were fragmented and the measurements were different for each researcher. In this study, an integrated model was presented by examining concepts related to team learning behaviors. Moreover, the measurement model of team learning behaviors was validated for the Korean context. The measurement model consisted of five factors: sharing and elaboration, constructive conflict, team reflection, team activity, and storage and utilization. This tool was confirmed through exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. The results of this study are expected to have implications for team researchers and practitioners who diagnose and improve the level of team learning behavior within an organization.
Due to the uncertainty of dynamic business environment, modern organizations have been giving attention to dynamic capabilities beyond traditional notion of core competence. Among them, absorptive capacity and boundary-spanning activity are considered the most important. The former refers to activities regarding acquisition, assimilation, transformation and exploitation of internal and external knowledge. The latter is composed of boundary-loosening and boundary-tightening activities to detect internal or external information and then to preserve, protect, or acquire resources. Thus, both have achieved wide recognition as a potential source of change and innovation. This study investigated the cross-level relation between boundary-spanning leadership at team level and absorptive capacity at individual level. We also explored self-efficacy and extra-role behavior that can affect employees' absorptive capacity. To test multi-level analysis, the survey data were collected from 862 members in 137 teams of different firms. Results revealed that boundary-spanning leadership had the positive cross-level impact on absorptive capacity in the team context. Moreover, absorptive capacity was positively associated with self-efficacy and extra-role behavior at individual level. Based on these findings, we provided theoretical and practical implications to address rapidly changing environments and discussed limitations of this paper for further research.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of problem solving strategies that gifted students use in science inquiry problem. The subjects of the study are the notes and presentation materials that the 15 team of elementary and junior high school students have solved the problem. They are a team consisting of 27 elementary gifted and 29 middle gifted children who voluntarily selected topics related to dimple among the various inquiry themes. The analysis data are the observations of the subjects' inquiry process, the notes recorded in the inquiry process, and the results of the presentations. In this process, the knowledge related to dimple is classified into the declarative knowledge level and the process knowledge level, and the strategies used by the gifted students are divided into general strategy and supplementary strategy. The results of this study are as follows. First, as a result of categorizing gifted students into knowledge level, six types of AA, AB, BA, BB, BC, and CB were found among the 9 types of knowledge level. Therefore, gifted students did not have a high declarative knowledge level (AC type) or very low level of procedural knowledge level (CA type). Second, the general strategy that gifted students used to solve the dimple problem was using deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning, finding the rule, solving the problem in reverse, building similar problems, and guessing & reviewing strategies. The supplementary strategies used to solve the dimple problem was finding clues, recording important information, using tables and graphs, making tools, using pictures, and thinking experiment strategies. Third, the higher the knowledge level of gifted students, the more common type of strategies they use. In the case of supplementary strategy, it was not related to each type according to knowledge level. Knowledge-based learning related to problem situations can be helpful in understanding, interpreting, and representing problems. In a new problem situation, more problem solving strategies can be used to solve problems in various ways.
