An asymptotic analysis of the Taylor-Proudman flow in a rapidly-rotating compressible fluid (압축성 회전유체에서 발생하는 Taylor-Proudman 유동에 대한 점근해석)

  • A matched asymptotic analysis is conducted for a compressible rotating flow in a cylindrical container when a mechanical and/or a thermal disturbance is imposed on the wall. The system Ekman number is assumed to be very small. The conditions for the Taylor-Proudman column in the interior, which were also given in the companion paper Park & Hyun, 2002) by means of the energy balancing analysis, have been re-derived. The concept of the variable, the energy content $e[{\equiv}T+2 {\alpha}^2 {\gamma}{\nu}]$, is reformulated, and its effectiveness in characterizing the energy transport mechanism is delineated. It is seen that, under the condition of the Taylor-Proudman column, numerous admissible theoretical solutions for interior flow exist with an associated wail boundary condition. Some canonical examples are illustrated with comprehensive physical descriptions. The differential heating problem on the top and bottom endwall disks is revisited by using the concept of the energy content. The results are shown to be in line with the previous findings.

Reduction of Height of Taylor Cone Caused by Water Surface Discharge and Its Ozone Generation Characteristics (수표면방전의 방전 수돌기의 높이제한과 오존발생특성)

  • A silent type ozone generator using water surface has been studied and improved its ozone generation characteristics by the controlling the height of Taylor cone by installing a mesh electrode, a dielectric bed of glass beads in the just under th surface of the water. The current-voltage characteristics and characteristics of ozone generation quantity of the test system were investigated and discharge current oscillograms of the each cases of the mesh electrode and the beds were observed and compared each other to analyze the discharge conditions. The Taylor cone height could be the cause of the discharge bridge to decrease the ozone generation on the discharge spacing. In this study, the hight of Taylor cone could be reduced greatly by installing the mesh and the glass beads bed just under the water surface. Therefore a higher ozone generation also could be obtained.

Study on the Characteristics of Bubble and Liquid Slugs for Gas-Liquid Taylor Flow in a Rectangular Micro-channel (사각 마이크로 채널 내 Taylor Flow의 기포 및 액체 슬러그 유동 특성에 대한 연구)

  • The characteristics of gas-liquid Taylor (Slug) flow in a square micro-channel of $600{\sim}600{{\mu}m}$ were investigated experimentally in this paper. The test fluids were nitrogen and water. The liquid and gas superficial velocities were 0.01~3 m/s and 0.1~3 m/s, respectively. Bubble and liquid slug length, bubble velocity, and frequency were measured by analyzing optical images using a high speed camera. Bubble length decreased with higher liquid flow rate, which increased dramatically with higher gas flow rate. However, slug length did not vary with changes in inlet liquid conditions. Additionally, bubble velocities and frequencies increased with higher liquid and gas flow rates. It was found that measured bubble lengths were in good agreement with the empirical models in the existing literature, but slug lengths were not.

  • In this paper, mechanical properties of mild steel plate which was pretreated by prestress and prestrain loading conditions were studied. The variation of the mechanical properties of the test materials is evaluated in the light of Taylor's work hardening theory. Through this experimental study, it is recognized that material showed unstable phenomena after cyclic loading and it will recover its stability after a certain period of time accompaning the increment of hardness and the yield strength of the material. Also, the strength of smooth specimen, the notch strength of notch specimen and propagation behavior of fatigue specimen which were subjected to prestress and prestrain reveal that the optimal conditions may occur in the first, the middle and the later half of stage II of Taylor's work hardening theory, respectively.

  • A conventional sliding mode control approach is often impractical or difficult when it is applied to high order process b because the number of tuning parameters in the sliding mode controller increases with the order of the plant. C Camacho(l996) proposed a design method of a fixed structure sliding mode controller based on a first order plus dead t time approximation to the higher-order process. But, his method has such problems as chattering, over‘shoot, and c command following due to the Taylor the approximation en‘ors for the time delay term of the first order model. In this p paper, a new design technique for a sliding mode controller based on the modified Taylor approximation considered a w weight is developed to improve the Camacho's problems.

  • In this paper, we prove the discrete Hardy inequality through the continuous case for decreasing functions using elementary properties of calculus. Also, we prove the Carleman's inequality through limiting the discrete Hardy inequality with applications of Taylor series.

  • In the presence of unit nonresponse we perform the calibration estimation procedure for the population total corresponding to the levels of auxiliary information and derive the Taylor and the Jackknife variance estimators of it. We study the nonresponse bias reduction and the variance stabilization, and then show the efficiency of the Taylor and the Jackknife variance estimators by simulation study.

  • In ecological studies, animal science, or entomology, the variance of count is considered to have the power of the mean relationship with the mean count as Taylor (1961) presented his famous 'Taylor's Power Law'. In this talk, we are going to review the development of TPL and its extension toward pest management sampling scheme. Different estimation methods are compared. Quasilikelihood approach is suggested to incorporate covariate information. Possible extensions will be discussed.

  • In this paper, we study exponential stabilization of the vibrations of the Kelvin-Voigt type wave equation with Balakrishnan-Taylor damping and acoustic boundary in a bounded domain in $R^n$. To stabilize the systems, we incorporate separately, the internal material damping in the model as like Kang [3]. Energy decay rate are obtained by the exponential stability of solutions by using multiplier technique.
