Background: One of the important actions for enhancing human reliability in any industry is assessing human error probability (HEP). The HEART technique is a robust tool for calculating HEP in various industries. The traditional HEART has some weaknesses due to expert judgment. For these reasons, a hybrid model is presented in this study to integrate HEART with Best-Worst Method. Materials Method: In this study, the blasting process in an iron ore mine was investigated as a case study. The proposed HEART-BWM was used to increase the sensitivity of APOA calculation. Then the HEP was calculated using conventional HEART formula. A consistency ratio was calculated using BWM. Finally, for verification of the HEART-BWM, HEP calculation was done by traditional HEART and HEART-BWM. Results: In the view of determined HEPs, the results showed that the mean of HEP in the blasting of the iron ore process was 2.57E-01. Checking the full blast of all the holes after the blasting sub-task was the most dangerous task due to the highest HEP value, and it was found 9.646E-01. On the other side, obtaining a permit to receive and transport materials was the most reliable task, and the HEP was 8.54E-04. Conclusion: The results showed a good consistency for the proposed technique. Comparing the two techniques confirmed that the BWM makes the traditional HEART faster and more reliable by performing the basic comparisons.
In the multi-stage and multi-process plant, it is not an easy task to describe the interrelationships among each process and facility. The purpose of this simulation study is to analyze the effect of additional facilities on productivity in a steel mill. The simulation was performed using SLAM Simulation Language for Alternative Modeling. The results of this study was used by the plant engineers in making decisions on the expansion of the plate mill. The prediction of which process would cause bottle-necks enabled the plant engineers to invest most effectively.
Objective: This study aims to evaluate the efficiency of two representative subway map design types, namely a diagram type and a geographical type using physiological metrics, performance metrics, and self-reported metrics, which are representative usability metrics. Background: Subway maps need to be designed in order for users to quickly search and recognize subway line information. Although most cities' subway maps currently use the diagram type designed by Henry Beck, New York City's subway map has recently been changed to the subway map type combined with the geographical type designed by Michael Hertz. However, not many studies on its efficiency are found, and the studies that are available mainly depend on questionnaire surveys or take on a subjective behavioral study type based on experts' experiences. In this regard, evaluation through a more objective method is needed. Method: This study employed usability metrics as a method to evaluate the efficiency of information search targeting the diagram type and geographical type subway maps used mostly as subway maps. To this end, physiological metrics obtained through eye tracking, task completion time, representative metric of task performance, and subjective evaluation metrics were used for the suitability evaluation of subway map designs. Results: In the result of gaze movement distance analysis, no significant difference was shown in the two design types in terms of a process finding a departure station from the starting point and a process finding a transfer station between the departure station and arrival station (destination). However, the gaze movement distance in the process finding the arrival station at the departure station was significantly shorter in the geographical type, rather than in the diagram type. The analysis of task completion time showed a result similar to the gaze movement distance analysis result. Task completion time was significantly shorter in the geographical type, rather than in the diagram type, which is in the process finding the arrival station at the departure station. In other information search processes, no significant difference was shown. As a result of subjective evaluation metrics analysis, no significant difference was revealed in the two design types. Conclusion: An analysis on the two representative subway map design types was carried out via the adoption of usability metrics. As a result, although no significant difference was shown in some information search processes, it was revealed that information search was easier in the geographical type overall. Also, it was found that usability metrics can be effectively used to evaluate the design types of subway maps. Application: The study results can be used to set design direction to offer ease in information search on subway lines. The study also can be used as a method to evaluate a subway map's design type.
The purpose of this study is to develop an assembly-type liquid level control experimental equipment and a hands-on activity task that can be applied to the class so that students studying the chemical industry can easily understand the liquid level control. For this purpose, the content elements related to liquid level control in the chemical industry practice course of the 2015 revised curriculum was analyzed, a hands-on activity task with an assembly-type liquid level control experimental equipment was and developed. And then, expert verification was also performed and the hands-on activity task was applied to 19 students of S meister high school. The results obtained through this are as follows. First, the existing completion-type liquid level control experimental equipment was explored, and based on this, a new assembly-type liquid level control experimental equipment that can be assembled by students and used for practices was designed and manufactured. Second. by analyzing the contents of the NCS-based 'Chemical Process Maintenance Operation' practical course of the 2015 revised curriculum, learning contents related to level control were extracted. Among the contents related to the level control, the practice with understanding the process flow chart, manufacturing the level control experimental equipment, measuring the flow rate, and checking the level control phenomenon were conducted with the assembly-type liquid level control experimental equipment to systematically learn the level control.
The purpose of this study was to describe characteristics of thinking in elementary gifted students' solutions to algebraic tasks. Especially, this paper was focused on the students' strategies to develop generalization while problem solving, the justifications on the generalization and metacognitive thinking emerged in stildents' problem solving process. To find these issues, a case study was conducted. The subjects of this study were four 6th graders in elementary school-they were all receiving education for the gifted in an academy for the gifted attached to a university. Major findings of this study are as follows: First, during the process of the task solving, the students varied in their use of generalization strategies and utilized more than one generalization strategy, and the students also moved from one strategy toward other strategies, trying to reach generalization. In addition, there are some differences of appling the same type of strategy between students. In a case of reaching a generalization, students were asked to justify their generalization. Students' justification types were different in level. However, there were some potential abilities that lead to higher level although students' justification level was in empirical step. Second, the students utilized their various knowledges to solve the challengeable and difficult tasks. Some knowledges helped students, on the contrary some knowledges made students struggled. Specially, metacognitive knowledges of task were noticeably. Metacognitive skills; 'monitoring', 'evaluating', 'control' were emerged at any time. These metacognitive skills played a key role in their task solving process, led to students justify their generalization, made students keep their task solving process by changing and adjusting their strategies.
The Purpose of this research is to investigate how Project Based Learning(PBL) cognitive department and among the learner and instructor in the industrial highschool. Theoretical framework for the study is based on PBL, collaborative learning and module learning. The importance of the PBL has been continuously reviewed by many educational researchers. In addition, it was supported by previous research results. Based on theoretical frameworks and previous researches on the PBL provided design principles and method for learning in the industrial highschool. As a result of this study, we have developed and applied to investigate (1) differences between the types of departments(agriculture, industry, commerce) of cognition on learner's and instructor's task solving process, (2) correlation between the type of groups(learner, instructor) and type of departments(agriculture, industry, commerce) cognition on task solving process. The total of 100 learners and 50 instructors from industrial highschool in the study for the period of sixteen weeks. Based on the type of groups and departments, participants were divided into six groups such as learner and instructor of agriculture, industry, commerce department. The result of the study can be summarized as follows: First, in the study, between the types of departments(agriculture, industry, commerce) of cognition on learner's and instructor's task solving process are differences. Second, correlation between the type of groups(learner, instructor) and type of departments(agriculture, industry, commerce) of cognition on task solving process are differences. Although the differences were insignificant for cognition of PBL's help, however, four items(accomplishment, application subject, hereafter application) showed significant differences in performances. The implication of the result indicated the cognition of PBL in the industrial highschool seem significant for departments and subjects characteristic of learning. In future research it is recommended that PBL model designs should consider components of group and department types.
The purpose of this study is to survey its characteristics through analyzing brain-wave activity in the scientifically-gifted and general children in the problem-solving process. The subjects of this study were 6 elementary school students, who are attending the institute of education for the gifted belonging to the regional office of education and 6 general children in the same region. The analysis was performed targeting total 12 people. As the task for measuring brain wave is Hanio tower, it is the effective task of researching into the problem-solving process. As the equipment of measuring brain wave is EEG System, it used equipment that was developed in Australia. The analysis of data was minimized noise. As a result of research, the gifted children are excellent in stable level compared to general people in a stable situation with opening the eyes, thereby being able to be known to be high in preparatory level for learning. This can be seen to be indicated as a result that the effect of learning is excellent due to being high in preparatory level for solving problem. Also, even in the process of performing task, the brain-activity level in the gifted children is high, thereby having been able to know that ${\alpha}-wave$ is formed that is significantly high in the regions of frontal lobe and occipital lobe. Accordingly, given developing task that is high in brain activity level of the gifted children, the higher educational effect will be able to be expected.
IT organizations have been consistently required to change in order to cope with business and technological changes. However, the practical methodologies or guidelines about IT organization redesign are deficient. This research investigates IT organization's redesign methods and procedures focused on K public corporation which fundamentally redesigned IT organization recently. In K public corporation, to-be model of IT organization was designed with job analysis for IT organization redesign, task redesign was performed, and IT organization and personnel was assessed. 1) In task analysis, core activities are identified and 96 standard tasks are drawn. 2) with to-be organization design, IT support, IT delivery, IT operation teams and BuKyoung and Jeju teams were divided. 3) Previous job organization was restructured, IT organization personnel were finally confirmed through FTE and internal review. K public corporation strengthened IT planning task instead of reducing operational IT task, improved IT management process which was lower than other companies, and improved IT outsourcing management system and IT users' satisfactions. This research has practical implications for many companies which struggle with IT organization redesign method and process.
Given that cognitive demands of mathematical tasks can be changed during instruction, this study attempts to provide a detailed description to explore how tasks are set up and implemented in the classroom and what are the classroom-based factors. As an exploratory and qualitative case study, 4 of six-grade classrooms where high-level tasks on ratio and proportion were used were videotaped and analyzed with regard to the patterns emerged during the task setup and implementation. With regard to 16 tasks, four kinds of Patterns emerged: (a) maintenance of high-level cognitive demands (7 tasks), (b) decline into the procedure without connection to the meaning (1 task), (c) decline into unsystematic exploration (2 tasks), and (d) decline into not-sufficient exploration (6 tasks), which means that the only partial meaning of a given task is addressed. The 4th pattern is particularly significant, mainly because previous studies have not identified. Contributing factors to this pattern include private-learning without reasonable explanation, well-performed model presented at the beginning of a lesson, and mathematical concepts which are not clear in the textbook. On the one hand, factors associated with the maintenance of high-level cognitive demands include Improvising a task based on students' for knowledge, scaffolding of students' thinking, encouraging students to justify and explain their reasoning, using group-activity appropriately, and rethinking the solution processes. On the other hand, factors associated with the decline of high-level cognitive demands include too much or too little time, inappropriateness of a task for given students, little interest in high-level thinking process, and emphasis on the correct answer in place of its meaning. These factors may urge teachers to be sensitive of what should be focused during their teaching practices to keep the high-level cognitive demands. To emphasize, cognitive demands are fixed neither by the task nor by the teacher. So, we need to study them in the process of teaching and learning.
This study was aimed to analyze factors affecting intention on clinical application by task autonomy of dental hygienists, expected effect and obstructive factor on clinical application of assessment, dental hygiene diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation (ADPIE). Meanwhile, it proved mediating effects of "attitude toward ADPIE" when it came to "intention on clinical application". The data was collected from 237 dental personnel in capital region from March 28, 2014 to May 2, 2014. To analyze the suitability of a theoretical model and hypothesis testing, SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 18.0 program were used. The theoretical model was accepted as it resulted in ${\chi}^2=421.67$ while showing goodness of fit index=0.858, comparative fit index=0.915, Tucker-Lewis index=0.896, root mean square residual=0.039, and root mean square error of approximation=0.099. The result showed "task autonomy of dental hygienists (${\beta}=0.398$, p<0.05)" and "expected effect on ADPIE (${\beta}=0.363$, p<0.01)" had a positive effect on "attitude toward ADPIE". Also, "attitude toward ADPIE" had a positive effect on "intention on clinical application". In addition, "task autonomy of dental hygienists" and "expected effect on ADPIE" had an indirect influence on "intention on clinical application" via such intermediary as "attitude toward ADPIE". According to the above results, the task autonomy of dental hygienists, expected effect on ADPIE, and attitude toward ADPIE were confirmed to be significant factors when it came to the intention on its clinical application. Therefore in order to settle ADPIE in the clinical practice, improvement of task autonomy for dental hygienists as well as their expectation and attitude on ADPIE must be promoted.
