  • Buildings that are more than 10 years old generally have considerable repair and replacement costs due to the rapid deterioration of their systems. For public buildings in particular, which have national and social significance, considerable effort is required not only to ensure a long life cycle and safety but also to minimize the overall public expense. Along with increasing repair and replacement requirements, however, there have been problems related to the establishment of an accurate facility management budget. To address these concerns, a repair and replacement cost management system was constructed. This system manages both invested maintenance and forecast costs to establish a reasonable repair and replacement planning process and budget. The effectiveness of the system was verified through a pilot test targeting one of public Corporation (K).

  • A class is a complex and interactive process between a teacher and students. This paper describes a software design and implementation of the tool easily to analyze and quantize teaching ability. Our proposed software is implemented based on Flanders linguistic method. The software can easily represent the linguistic analysis results by abstracted graphic drawings. We carry out the performance test of our implemented software targeting incumbent teachers. In the experimental, we could demonstrate the effectiveness and practicality of our implemented software.

  • An irritable larynx syndrome is characterized by a sudden episodic dyspnea and dysphonia that is difficult to diagnose, and patients are often treated unnecessarily and/or too much. A correct diagnosis can be made by monitoring the larynx closing in the reversed direction during inhalation and posterior chink with videolaryngoscopy and by measuring a decrease in air flow volume during inhalation with a lung function test. Patients can be effectively treated with thorough differential diagnosis. Medications targeting precipitating factors, physical therapy sessions to improve abnormal larynx movement, counseling to reduce patients'anxiety rising from dyspnea, and etc. can effectively alleviate symptoms.

  • This paper introduces the part of efforts to develop a derivative type turbo-shaft engine from an existing baseline engine for multi-purpose helicopters targeting at 4000kg of take-off weight for 10-12 passengers. As a first step in meeting the development goal of increasing the output power to 840hp from 720hp with minimum modification, two stage axial compressor was redesigned to obtain the higher pressure ratio by removing the inlet guide vane and increasing the chord length. As a result, two stage axial compressors were designed to have the flow rate of 3.04 kg/s, the pressure ratio of 2.01 and the adiabatic efficiency of $85\%$. Its performance tests were carried out and verification of test results and redesign are under progress. Aerodynamic and structural analyses of the preliminary design are mainly described in this paper.

  • This paper presents the results of an investigation on shear strengthening of RC beams externally reinforced with CFRP composite. A total of six full-scale beams of four CFRP strengthened and two unstrengthened were tested in the absence of internal stirrups in the shear span. The strengthening configurations contained two styles: discrete uniformly spaced strips and customized wide strips over B-regions. The composite systems provided an increase in ultimate strength as compared to the unstrengthened beams. Among the three layouts that had the same area of CFRP, the highest contribution was provided by the customized layout that targeted the B-regions. A comparative study of the experimental results with published empirical equations was conducted in order to evaluate the assumed effective strains. The empirical equations were found to be unconservative. Nonlinear finite element (NLFE) models were developed for the beams. The models agreed with test results that targeting the B-region was more effective than distributing the same CFRP area in a discrete strip style over shear spans. Moreover, the numerical models predicted the contribution of different configurations better than the empirical equations.

  • In this study, a FE model tuning method using experimental modal data was suggested after examining all the published conventional methods. The idea of this method is introducing scale factors to maintain both the structural connectivity and the consistency in the corrected stiffness matrix which makes it always possible to interpret the stiffness elements with the corresponding physical configuration of the targeting structure. The scale factors are determined to minimize the objective function of eigen-properties. The proposed method was tested to determine the joint stiffness of a T shaped beam. The test results were also compared with the tuned stiffness obtained from a probed commercial package (SYSTUNE) and found that this method is very accurate and compatible.

  • Bovine serum albumin microspheres containing cytarabine were prepared using cross-linking agent, formaldehyde. The shape and the size distribution of them were observed. The shape of them was spherical and the susrface was compact and smooth. The size distribution of them was affected by dispersion forces during emulsfication. The release of cytarabine from albumin microspheres was dependent upon cross-linking time, amount of cross-linking agent and drug/albumin ratio. However, the difference of drug release by the dispersion forces was not great. After release test, the shape of albumin microspheres was nonspherical and the albumin matrix seemed to be a little relaxed. The degradation tests of albumin microspheres by the proteolytic enzyme showed that albumin microspheres were progressively digested according to the cross-linking degree.

  • In this paper, a design and experiment of PCI Express Core verification Model is described. The model targeting Endpoint core verification is designed by using newly-emerging SystemC which is a system design language based on a new C++ class library and simulation engine. In the verification model, we developed a SystemC Host System model which act as a Root Complex and Device Driver dedicated to the PCI Express Endpoint RTL Core. The test of Host System Model is guided by scenarios which implements and acts point of Device Driver and Root Complex and shows the result of simulation. Also, We present the full structure of verification model and Host model.

  • This study compares the consumption values and clothing benefits between married and unmarried women. The data were collected from a questionnaire with 548 working women in their 20's and 30's. Data were analyzed by factor analysis, reliability analysis, t-test, and one way ANOVA. The factor analysis on consumption values resulted in five dimensional structures: pro-environmental, conspicuous, enjoyable, aesthetic, and economic values. Five dimensions of clothing benefits were identified by factor analysis: individuality, social recognition, well-known brands, practicality, and low price pursuit. The respondents were classified into four groups by marital status and age, as well as two groups only by marital status. There were significant differences among the groups in demographic characteristics, consumption values, and clothing benefits. The results provide insight into marketing strategies of apparel makers or retailers targeting single women.
