Background : Cancer is a disease that not only places a significant burden on patients clinically but also requires significant expense for diagnosis and treatment. Although the cancer coverage of health insurance has recently been expended, the need for financial assistance among cancer patients and their families is still expected to be significant. In this study, cancer patients' need for financial assistance in Korea was examined and its influence factors were analyzed. Methods : Target study subjects were those who are over 18 years of age and were diagnosed with cancer more than four months prior at the National Cancer Center and 9 Regional Cancer Centers in Korea during the period from July to August of 2008. Quarter sampling was conducted according to the ratio of the type of each cancer. A face to face interview survey was conducted. A total of 2,661 cancer patients finished the survey. Medical charts were reviewed in order to obtain the cancer type and SEER stage of cancer patients. An ordered logistic regression model was used to examine the level of need for financial assistance according to the demographical, clinical, and socio-economic variables of cancer patients. Result : The percentage of cancer patients who needed financial assistance was 69.0%, and 36.9% needed significant financial assistance. The need for financial assistance was perceived to be greater in males, younger age group, low income group, low education group, medical aid recipients, those who were diagnosed recently, those with a low level of quality of life measured through EQ5D, and those with decreased income after cancer diagnosis. Conclusion : In spite of the current policy to increase health insurance coverage, the majority of cancer patients and their families in Korea still need financial assistance due to cancer. In particular, there were more vulnerable groups, such as the low income, or low education group. In the future, policies that focus on the disadvantaged, which strengthen social security, should be considered for achievement of a substantially better quality of life for cancer patients and their families.
The purpose of this study is to find out the main operational scheme of the "financial planning" and "the trust" for people with developmental disabilities as a means of property protecting and managing for them. The results are as follows; Regarding to "Financial planning", it is necessary to establish a measure to meet the financial needs for people with developmental disabilities in future plan; Issues to be taken care of in the point of financial planning include plan for the maintenance and use of property for their independent life; and public and private resources and support for the disabled. Obstacles are lack of national awareness of the financial planning for the disabled. In relation to the contents of the "trust" of people with developmental disabilities, the principles of operation are assuring universality, publicness, stability, self-decision making, and individuality; operating system is a mixture of public and private; subjects of target are people with developmental disabilities with no parents or caring family as well as income. The required support is a supervisory system for the secure management of asset to entrusted institutions; the decision support system for people with developmental disabilities; maintaining the qualification of government receipt of public assistance for those who do not redeem up to a certain amount of personal property utilizing the trust system.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the gap of private tutoring expenditure using data from 2001 to 2016 of Korean labor and income panel study (KLIPS). The final analysis target is about 1,300 to 1,800 households nationwide who participated in the Korean labor panel survey in each year. As a result of the analysis, the expenditure of private tutoring expenditure has been continuously increased since 2001, and it is analyzed that there is a large gap in expenditure of private tutoring even in the comparison of groups divided by the quintile. The spending gap on private tutoring expenditure in the first and fifth quintiles has increased steadily, reaching 11 times in recent years. By forecasting the polarization of private tutoring expenditure since 2016 using the Brown's smoothing method, it is highly likely that the polarization of private tutoring expenditure will be further expanded. The implications for preparing an alternative educational policy and suggestions of conducting a follow-up study for private tutoring expenditure gaps were also discussed.
This study attempted to explore child, family, and parents' psychological factors that were related to quality of home environment among families with preschoolers in Korea. The relationships between a series of factors and home environment and the predictive effects of the factors on HOME scores were analyzed using data from 1,690 families who participated in the5th wave of the PSKC (Panel Study of Korean Children) when the target child's age was about 4 years old. The results revealed that when the child was a boy and when the child had a difficult temperament, the overall HOME scores were lower. Mothers' age, parents' education, family income, poverty and family life events were significantly related to the HOME scores, too. All of the psychological factors of both mothers and fathers were significantly correlated with the HOME scores. When both mother and father had less depressive symptoms, lower level of parenting stress and greater marital satisfaction, the HOME scores were higher. Regression analysis showed that child's gender, father's education and mothers' marital satisfaction were relatively strong predictors of HOME. The policy implication for parent education and suggestions for future study were proposed.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to examine mission statements and their elements and to investigate correlations between mission statements and organizational performance. Methods: The current research was a descriptive study based on the examination of mission statements of 353 hospitals that posted mission statements on their webpage and 92 hospitals that made their income statements public. Results: The most common mission element was 'identification of principal services', which accounted for 92.6%. Mission statements of hospitals included the average of 4.82 mission elements out of 9, and the objective of medical quality improvement was 0.81 among 6 objectives of IOM (Institute of Medicine). Net profit of hospitals with mission statements that have above average number of mission elements were significantly higher (t=2.71, p=.008) than those of other hospitals. Net profit was significantly correlated with mission statements (r=.26, p<.001), and mission elements (r=.29, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of the study empirically reveal that mission statements in the hospital affect organizational performance. That is, better organizational performance is shown for hospitals with better, more diversified, and more firmly stated mission statements which include identification of target customers, identification of principal services, contribution to society as a non-profit organization, and concern for employees.

This study confirmed the types of shopping information sources during travel abroad, and developed a profile of tourists in terms of demographics, travel, and shopping behavior. Shopping information sources and characteristics of shopping products were identified first. Thereafter, travelers were segmented by their information-seeking behavior. An online survey method was used to get data from Korean vacationers in their 20s-50s, while factor analysis, cluster analysis, ${\chi}^2$ test and ANOVA were applied to analyze data. The results were as follows. First, the shopping information sources of overseas tourists were composed of four factors including sources from travel agents/media, information from travel books and local sources, and word-of-mouth sources. Also, four factors in product types and four product attributes were identified. Second, tourists were clustered into two groups, active and passive shopping information seekers, based on shopping source behavior. Third, two groups differed in terms of demographics, showing an older age and higher income for active shopping source seekers. Active shopping information users tended to join package trips with family members, and they were more satisfied with the trip. With regard to shopping, active shopping source seekers spent more money for shopping and preferred all kinds of shopping goods with an emphasis on travel shopping. In conclusion, shopping information sources seemed to be a meaningful tool for segmenting tourists. Rich, older, family tourists would be an major target market for local retailers.
The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships between Healthy Family Support Center (HFSC) program participation and family strengths and program needs based on HFSC participants' individual, family, and community characteristics. A total of 695 HFSC participants who were married and had participated in HFSC programs were recruited through 25 local HFSCs in Seoul. A multiple regression method was conducted for data analysis. The major findings are as follows. Family strengths was related to the variables of age, education, monthly household income, and participation in family counseling and sharing family care programs. In terms of program needs, the variables of marital conflict, difficulty in care, financial distress, family strengths, and family-friendly community were associated with HFSC program needs while participants' socio-demographic characteristics were not related to program needs. This study highlights that HFSC programs have different target populations considering that the level of family strengths was different among the various programs' participants. In addition, program needs are different depending upon the HFSC participants' experiences in the family and community. These findings suggest that it is important to consider participants' family and community characteristics as well as participants' socio-demographic characteristics to provide appropriate programs for all HFSC participants.
This study evaluated the menus of native foods menu in the Jeonju city area in order to present possible improvements. The study examined twenty native food restaurants that target the visitors to the Jeonju city area from July 20 to August 12, 2005. These restaurants specialize in Jeonjubibimbap, Kongnamulgukbap, Hanjeongsik, and Dolsotbibimbap, which are all native foods of Jeonju. Restaurant patrons were randomly selected on leaving the study aim was explained, and questionnaires were distributed. of 200 papers, only 109 were suitable for statistical analysis. First, four factors of menu evaluation were drawn out: inner shape factor of food, outer shape factor of food, sanitation factor, and service factor. Second, the analysis showed statistically significant difference at the 5% significance level in age, job, and monthly income. Third, regression analysis between the factors on menu evaluation and the variables on their intention to visit the restaurant again, indicated that the inner shape factor of food influenced the intention to visit again. It is expected that these study results will assist the employees, restaurant managers, and chefs in making the best practical use of the basic ingredients to promote food quality and increase sales, which will lead to the further development of Jeonju city.

As intensifying competition alters the dynamics of the wireless industry and carriers begin to tap out traditional subscribers-business users and early adopters-wireless operators have come under pressure to begin expanding their target subscriber base. While alternative market segments such as youths, senior citizens, and lower-income or credit-challenged customers often offer less compelling fundamentals (i.e., lower average revenue per user and higher churn rates), carriers, in their race to increase market share, can no longer overlook these potential market segments. In particular, the youth market is a very appealing market segment for carriers to focus on for several reasons. Carriers in many parts of the world have already begun recognizing the compelling advantages of concentrating on youths and teens. This paper will examine the dynamics of the youth/teen population and what attributes make this group an appealing market for wireless carriers. In addition, it will take a look at new emerging technologies that may help carriers attract the youth market especially mobile data, entertainment applications, and wireless messaging. This paper also studies the sensation that carriers in Europe and Japan are achieving with the youth population and suggests how carriers in Korea can emulate that success.
Objectives To protect public health from risk, the Minister of Environment in Korea legislated an act concerning the registration and evaluation of chemical substances. In this study, we estimated the value of a statistical life (VSL) of carcinogenic chemicals to evaluate the socioeconomic analysis in Korea. Methods The estimation of the health benefit can be calculated through an individual's VSL and willingness to pay (WTP). To estimate the VSL and WTP, we used a contingent valuation method through a web-based survey. Results The survey is conducted with 1434 people living in Seoul and six large cities. An analysis of the survey is essential to review the distribution of the characteristics of the target population. The statistically significant variables affecting the WTP are location, age, household income, quality of life. Through the review of data, we secured statistical validity. The WTP was estimated as 41205 Korean won (KRW)/person, and the estimated VSL appeared as 796 million KRW/person. Conclusions There is a case in which the amount of statistical life value is estimated in connection with domestic environmental policy, fine dust, etc. However, there are no cases of evaluation for chemical. The utilization of this result is possible for conducting other study with chemicals.
