소형 정보기기의 화면 디자인에서 최적의 펜입력을 위한 구성요소의 크기와 개수에 대한 경험적 연구 (An Empirical Study of Minimum Required Size and the Minimum Number of Targets for Pen Input on the Small Display)

  • 근래 작은 크기의 하드웨어 안에 첨단기능을 탑재한 다양한 ㅎ대용 기기들이 시장에 등장하고 있다. 이러한 기기들은 그 성능을 극대화하기 위하여 서로 다른 입력방법의 특성을 이해하고 충분한 방법안에서 그것들을 활용해야 한다. 본 연구의 목적은 각 입력방법의 특성을 이해함으로서 휴대용 기기의 사용자 인터페이스를 좀 더 효과적으로 디자인할 수 있게 하는 것이다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 휴대용 기기의 소형 표시창에서 팬과 커서키를 이용한 타겟 포인팅 수행도를 비교하기 위하여 두가지 실험을 실시하였다. 첫 번째 실험에서 우리는 서로 다른 타겟 크기에서 두가지 입력방법에 의한 타겟 포인팅 수행도를 조사하였다. 타겟의 크기가 5mm보다 작을 경우 펜을 이용한 이력이 하드웨어키를 이용한 입력보다 더 에러가 많지만 타겟크기가 5mm일때 에러율이 키입력과 같은 수준으로 감소한다는 것을 발견했다. 두 번째 실험에서 우리는 타겟의 개수가 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 그 결과 타겟의 크기가 5mm일때 타겟의 거리가 3단계 경로길이을 초과할 경우 펜 입력이 하드웨어키 입력보다 더 빨리 타겟 포인팅할 수 있다는 것을 알았다.

High Throughput 프로세스에서 품질혁신의 성능평가를 위한 Z-Factor의 적용방안 (Implementation of Z-Factor Statistics for Performance Evaluation of Quality Innovation in the High Throughput Process)

  • The purpose of this study is to introduce the limit of previously used six sigma quality process evaluation metrics, $Z_{st}$ and $P_{pk}$, and a solution to overcome this drawback by using a metric based on performance evaluation of Z-factor quality innovation. Case analysis on projects from national six sigma contest from 2011 to 2012 is performed and literature review on new drug development HTS (High Throughput Screening) is used to propose innovative performance evaluation metrics. This research shows that experimental study on six sigma evaluation metric, $Z_{st}$ and $P_{pk}$, have no significance difference between industrial type (Manufacturing, Semi-Public Institute, Public Institute) and CTQ type (Product Technology Type CTQ, Process Technology Type CTQ). Following discovery characterize this quality improvement as fixed target type project. As newly developed moving target type of quality innovation performance metric Z-Factor is used for evaluating experimental study, hypothetical analysis suggests that $Z_{st}$ and $P_{pk}$ share different relationship or even show reciprocal relationship. Constraints of the study are relatively small sample size of only 37 projects from past 2 years and conflict on having interview and communication with six sigma quality practitioner for qualitative experimental study. Both moving target type six sigma innovation project and fixed target type improvement project or quality circle enables efficient ways for a better understanding and quality practitioner use by applying quality innovation performance metric. Downside of fixed target type quality performance evaluation metric, $Z_{st}$ and $P_{pk}$, is presented through experimental study. In contrast, advantage of this study is that high throughput requiring product technology, process technology and quantum leap typed innovation effect is evaluated based on precision and accuracy and Z-Factor that enables relative comparison between enterprises is proposed and implemented.

Gaze Effects on Spatial and Kinematic Characteristics in Pointing to a Remembered Target

  • The purpose of the present study was to examine gaze effects on spatial and kinematic characteristics during a pointing task. Subjects were asked to watch and point to an aimed target (2 mm in diameter) displayed on a vertically mounted board. Four gaze conditions were developed as combinations of "seeing-aiming" in terms of the eye movements: Focal-Focal (F-F), Focal-Fixing (F-X), Fixing-Focal (X-F), and Fixing-Fixing (X-X). Both the home target and an aimed target were presented for 1 second and then were disappeared in F-F and X-F. In X-F and X-X, only an aimed target disappeared after 1 second. Subjects were asked to point (with index finger tip) to an aimed target accurately as soon as the aimed target was removed. A significant main effect of gaze was found (p<.01) for normalized movement time. Peripheral retina targets had significantly larger absolute error compared to central retina targets on the x (medio-lateral) and z (superior-inferior) axes (p<.01). A significant undershooting to peripheral retina targets on the x axis was found (p<.01). F-F and X-F had larger peak velocities compared to F-X and X-X (p<.01). F-F and X-F were characterized by more time spent in the deceleration phase compared to F-X and X-X (p<.01). The present study demonstrates that central vision utilizes a form of on-line visual processing to reach to an object, and thus increases spatial accuracy. However, peripheral vision utilizes a relatively off-line visual processing with a dependency on proprioceptive information.

빔공간 다채널 비음수 행렬 분해에 기초한 잔향에서의 지속파 능동 소나 표적 탐지 기법에 대한 연구 (A study on the target detection method of the continuous-wave active sonar in reverberation based on beamspace-domain multichannel nonnegative matrix factorization)

  • 본 논문에서는 잔향이 존재하는 환경에서 낮은 도플러 주파수를 가지는 지속파 능동 소나의 반사음이 수신될 때, 빔공간 다채널 비음수 행렬 분해 기법을 이용하여 이를 탐지하는 기법에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 지속파 능동 소나에서 수신기가 이동하는 경우 도플러 효과로 인하여 잔향 주파수 대역이 넓어지며, 이 경우 낮은 도플러 주파수를 가지는 표적 반사음은 잔향에 의해 방해를 받는다. 본 논문에서 고안한 알고리즘은 빔공간 다채널 비음수 행렬 분해 기법을 이용하여 수신음의 다채널 스펙트로그램을 주파수 기저, 시간 기저, 빔형성기 이득으로 분석한 후, 적절한 기저를 선택하여 반사음의 주파수, 시간, 그리고 방위를 추정한다. 해당 알고리즘의 동작을 분석하기 위하여 다양한 신호대잔향음 환경에서의 시뮬레이션을 수행하였으며, 분석 결과 고안한 알고리즘이 주파수, 시간, 그리고 방위를 추정할 수 있으나 낮은 신호대잔향비 환경에서 성능이 저하됨을 확인할 수 있었다. 시뮬레이션 결과에 따르면, 향후 기저 선택 알고리즘을 수정함으로써 성능을 개선할 수 있을 것이라 예상된다.

Why do Sovereign Wealth Funds Invest in Asia?

  • Purpose - This paper aims to examine the determinants of SWFs' investment in Asian countries and to identify consistent investment patterns of SWFs in specific target firms from Asia, particularly China and South Korea. Design/methodology - This study extends the Tobin's Q model to examine the relationship between SWF investments in target firms and their returns with other firm-level control variables. We collect consistent data on SWF investments and the matched firm-level data on target firms, which of observation is 1,512 firms (333 in South Korea and 1,179 in China) targeted by 20 SWF sources during 1997-2017. The panel random effect model is used to estimate the extended Tobin's Q model. The robustness of the estimations is tested by the simultaneous equation models and the panel GEE model. Findings - The evidence shows that sovereign wealth funds are more inclined to invest in the financial sector with a monopoly position and in large firms with higher growth opportunity and superior cash asset ratios in China. In contrast to their investments in China, sovereign wealth funds in South Korea prefer to invest in strategic sectors, such as energy and information technology, and in large firms with high performance and low leverage. Sovereign wealth funds' investments tend to significantly improve the target firm's performance measured by sales growth and returns in both Korea and China. Originality/value - The existing literature focuses on examining the determination of SWFs investment in the developed countries, such as Europe and the United States. Our paper contributes to the literature in three ways; first, we analyzes case studies of SWF investments in Asian markets, which are less developed and riskier. Second, we examine whether the determination of SWF investment in Asian target firms depends on the different time periods, on types of sources of SWFs, and on acquiring countries. Third, our research uses vast sample data on target firms in longer time periods (1997-2017) than other previous studies on the SWFs for Asian markets.

Effects of Pretreatment for Controlling Internal Water Transport Direction on Moisture Content Profile and Drying Defects in Large-Cross-Section Red Pine Round Timber during Kiln Drying

  • Round timber materials of 600 mm length, cut from large-cross-section round timber of red pine (Pinus densiflora S. et Z.) of 450 mm width and 4.2 m length, were prepared as the target of kiln drying in this study. After treating the target materials through end sealing (ES), end sealing - kerfing (ES-K), lateral sealing - end sealing - boring (LS-ES-B), or lateral sealing - partial end sealing (LS-PES), the effects of the treatment on the incidence of drying defects were determined. The target materials with exposed lateral surface and sealed cross surface were steamed at the initial temperature of 65℃ above the official pest control temperature of 56℃, followed by kiln drying toward the final temperature of 75℃. The target materials with sealed lateral surfaces, on the other hand, were dried at the initial temperature of 90℃ at almost the maximum temperature of conventional kiln drying, as there is no risk of early check formation caused by surface moisture evaporation. The final temperature was set at approximately 100℃. The drying time, taken for the target materials with initial moisture content of 70%-80% to reach the target moisture content of 19%, varied across treatment conditions. The measured drying time was 1,146 hours (approximately 48 days) for the timber with sealed cross surface and 745 hours (approximately 31 days) for the timber with sealed lateral surface, until the moisture content reached the target level. The formation of surface checks could not be prevented in the control and ES groups, but a definite preventive effect was obtained for the LS-ES-B and LS-PES groups.

모의 분석을 위한 표적 획득 체계의 특성 데이터 산출 (Estimating Characteristic Data of Target Acquisition Systems for Simulation Analysis)

  • 전투 모의 환경 하에서 실제 모의 대상의 탐지 성능 데이터를 모의 개체에 적절히 입력하는 것은 모의분석 결과에 큰 영향을 미친다. 주요 전투 시뮬레이션 도구에서 개체의 탐지 능력을 모의하기 위한 표적획득모델로 ACQUIRE-Target Task Performance Metric(TTPM)-Target Angular Size(TAS) 모델을 사용하며, 이 모델은 전투 개체의 조우 조건을 입력으로 받아 해당 개체 센서의 분해 곡선을 추정하고, 표적 유형에 따른 탐지 거리를 출력한다. 그런데 사용자가 입력을 원하는 새로운 탐지 개체의 성능을 표적획득모델에 적용하는 것은 쉽지 않다. 사용자는 탐지 거리를 표적획득모델에 입력하길 원하지만, 표적획득모델은 조우 조건에 따른 센서의 분해 곡선 데이터가 필요하기 때문이다. 본 논문에서는 표적에 대한 탐지 거리를 입력으로 하여 표적획득모델의 센서 분해 곡선 데이터를 역으로 도출하는 기법을 제안한다. 여기서 해당 센서 분해 곡선 데이터는 인원, 지상차량, 항공기의 3종류 표적 유형에 대한 각각의 탐지 거리를 동시에 만족한다. 마지막으로 여러 정찰 장비의 탐지 거리를 탐지 개체에 적용하여, 정찰 장비에 따른 탐지 효과도를 분석한다.

miR-375 down-regulation of the rearranged L-myc fusion and hypoxia-induced gene domain protein 1A genes and effects on Sertoli cell proliferation

  • Objective: This study aimed to screen and identify the target genes of miR-375 in pig Sertoli (ST) cells and to elucidate the effect of miR-375 on the proliferation of ST cells. Methods: In this study, bioinformatics software was used to predict and verify miR-375 target genes. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to detect the relationship between miR-375 and its target genes in ST cells. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) of rearranged L-myc fusion (RLF) and hypoxia-induced gene domain protein 1A (HIGD1A) was performed on porcine ST cells, which were transfected with a miR-375 mimics and inhibitor to verify the results. Dual luciferase reporter gene assays were performed to assess the interactions among miR-375, RLF, and HIGD1A. The effect of miR-375 on the proliferation of ST cells was analyzed by CellTiter 96 AQueous One Solution Cell Proliferation Assay (MTS). Results: Five possible target genes of miR-375, including RLF, HIGD1A, colorectal cancer associated 2, POU class 3 homeobox 1, and WW domain binding protein 1 like, were found. The results of quantitative PCR suggested that mRNA expression of RLF and HIGD1A had a negative correlation with miR-375, indicating that RLF and HIGD1A are likely the target genes of miR-375. The ELISA results revealed that RLF and HIGD1A were negatively correlated with the miR-375 protein level. The luminescence results for the miR-375 group cotransfected with wild-type RLF and HIGD1A vector were significantly lower than those of the miR-375 group co-transfected with the blank vector or mutant RLF and HIGD1A vectors. The present findings suggest that RLF and HIGD1A are target genes of miR-375 and that miR-375 inhibits ST cell proliferation according to MTS analysis. Conclusion: It was speculated that miR-375 affects cell proliferation through its target genes, which play an important role in the development of testicular tissue.

Transformation-associated recombination cloning에 의한 유전자 분리에 사용되는 target hook에 대한 GC content의 영향 (Effect of GC Content on Target Hook Required for Gene Isolation by Transformation-Associated Recombination Cloning)

  • Transformation-associated recombination (TAR) 클로닝법은 목적 유전자를 포함한 게놈 DNA와 그 유전자의 5' 또는 3' 말단 서열을 포함하고 있는 선형의 TAR vector를 동시에 출아효모의 spheroplast내로 co-penetration 시켜 상동부위에서 일어나는 재조합에 의해 환형의 Yeast Artification Chromosome(YAC)으로 분리되는 방법이다. 일반적으로 TAR 클로닝법에 의한 목적의 single-copy 유전자 분리 빈도는 전체 형질전환체의 0.01~1% 정도이다. 이러한 TAR 클로닝법을 개선하기 위하여 Tg.AC transgenic mouse를 모델계로 사용하여 유전자 분리에 대한 target hook 내의 GC content 가 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 이러한 목적으로 한쪽에는 다양한 GC content(18~45%)를 지닌 transgene 특이적 hook을 포함하고 다른 한쪽은 B1 반복서열을 가지는 radial TAR vector를 사용하여 transgene 분리 빈도를 측정하였다. 그 결과 target hook의 GC content는 23% 이하의 경우, ~40%인 경우에 비해 두 배 정도 클로닝 빈도가 감소하였다. 따라서 TAR vector를 제작할 때, 유전자 분리에 이용되는 target hook의 GC content는 약 40% 일때 가장 적정한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 높은 target hook 내의 GC content(65%)위치분포에 의한 차이는 클로닝 빈도에 큰 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다.

노인대상프로그램의 심리적 효과와 관련된 변인에 대한 메타분석 (A Meta-analysis of Variable Related to Psychological Effects of the Elderly Target Program)

  • Purpose. This study aims to present basic data to develop programs suitable to the characteristics of elderly people through a meta-analysis of effectiveness of variables related to psychological effects of programs of elderly people conducted in past 15 years. Methods. The analysis subjects are total 229 articles related to the psychological effects of programs for elderly people and submitted for master or doctor degrees or published in academic journals. CMA2 is used for the analysis. Results. The results of this study shows lower variables of the psychological effect promoting factor group that are highly effective for Life Satisfaction, Self-Efficacy, Self-Respect and Self-Integration and lower variables of suppressing factor group that are highly effective for Loneliness, Tension, Weakness, Anger and Depression. For the effect scale of psychological effect promoting factors, Arts is shown to be the highest followed by Exercise, Consultation, Recollection, Others and Recreation in order. For the effect scale of suppressing factors, Consultation is shown to be the highest followed by Recollection, Arts, Exercise, Others and Recreation) in order. Conclusions. This study has its own meaning for establishing integrated factors of psychological effects of programs for elderly people and presenting realistic data for planing programs suitable for various desires of elderly people.
