  • In this paper, an algorithm that provisions proportional differentiation of packet delays is proposed with an objective for enhancing quality of service (QoS) in future packet networks. It features an adaptive scheme that adjusts the target delay every time slot to compensate the deviation from the target delay which is caused by the prediction error on the traffic to be arrived in the next time slot. It predicts the traffic to be arrived at the beginning of a time slot and measures the actual arrived traffic at the end of the time slot. The difference between them is utilized to the delay control operation for the next time slot to offset it. As it compensates the prediction error continuously, it shows superior adaptability to the bursty traffic as well as the exponential rate traffic. It is demonstrated through simulations that the algorithm meets the quantitative delay bounds and shows superiority to the traffic fluctuation in comparison with the conventional non-adaptive mechanism. The algorithm is implemented with VHDL on a Xilinx Spartan XC3S1500 FPGA and the performance is verified under the test board based on the XPC860P CPU.

  • Doppler processing is the heart of pulsed Doppler radar. It gives a clutter elimination and coherent integration. With the improvement of digital signal processors (DPSs), the implementation using them is more widely used in radar systems. Generally, so as for Doppler processor to process the input data in real time, a parallel processing concept using multiple DSPs should be used. This paper implements a programmable Doppler processor, which consists of MTI filter, DFB and square-law detector, using 8 ADSP21060s. Formulating the distribution time of the input data, the transfer time of the output data and the time required to compute each algorithm, it estimates total processing time and the number of required DSP. Finally, using the TSG that provides radar control pulses and simulated target signals, performances of the implemented Doppler processor are evaluated.

  • This paper explores how effectively the newly introduced planning process - California Senate Bill No. 375 will achieve the regional GHG emissions target under the California policy and planning framework and how well incentive based environmental policy might perform. The new legislation creates a future growth scenario to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions with incentives as means of implementation of AB 32 - the Global Warming Solution Act of 2006 and includes five important policy and planning aspects: 1) the role of sustainable communities strategies (SCS) as one of the key elements in their regional transportation plans; 2) planning for transportation and housing; 3) specified incentives for the implementation of SCS; 4) the regional planning approach toward reducing GHG emissions; and the role of the California Air Resources Board to establish the regional GHG emissions target. This has significant implications for regional and environmental planning with incentives - resources allocation and approval process.

  • Recently, the Open-Development-Tool-Environment becomes a basic requirement of RTOS (Real Time Operating System) for embedded systems with restricted memory and CPU power in order to develop applications effectively. A remote interactive shell is one of the basic software components which makes users develop, test and control softwares without burdening target systems. In this paper, we have implemented the remote interactive shell with the following functions : loading object modules, spawning and manipulating tasks facilities thru a remote host. Comparing information reference methods with nonredundant overhead, we have achieved the system with easy maintenance. The shell has been developed with Q-PLUS RTOS under ARM EBSA285 target board and NT host.

  • A number of plating companies have been exposed to the risk of fire due to unexpected temperature increasing of water in a plating bath. Since the companies are not able to forecast the unexpected temperature increasing of water and most of raw materials in the plating process have low ignition temperature, it is easy to be exposed to the risk of fire. Thus, the companies have to notice the changes immediately to prevent the risk of fire from plating process. Due to this reason, an agile and systematic temperature monitoring system is required for the plating companies. Unfortunately, in case of small size companies, it is hard to purchase a systematic solution and be offered consulting from one of the risk management consulting companies due to an expensive cost. In addition, most of the companies have insufficient research and development (R&D) experts to autonomously develop the risk management solution. In this article, we developed a real time remote temperature monitoring system which is easy to operate with a lower cost. The system is constructed by using Raspberry Pi single board computer and Android application to release an economic issue for the small sized plating manufacturing companies. The derived system is able to monitor the temperature continuously with tracking the temperature in the batch in a short time and transmit a push-alarm to a target-device located in a remoted area when the temperature exceeds a certain hazardous-temperature level. Therefore, the target small plating company achieves a risk management system with a small cost.

  • In addition to the revival of the Internet of Things, embedded systems, which are at the core of the Internet of Things, require intelligent control as things change. Embedded systems, however, are heavily constrained by resources such as hardware, memory, time and power. When changes are needed to firmware in an embedded system, flash Memory must be initialized and the entire firmware must be uploaded again. Therefore, it is time- and energy-efficient in that areas that do not need to be modified must also be initialized and rewritten. In this paper, we propose how to upload firmware in installments to each sector of flash memory so that only firmware can be replace the firmware in the parts that need to be modified when the firmware needs to be modified. In this paper, the proposed method was evaluated using real target board, and as a result, the time was reduced by about half.

  • According to increasing requirments in embedded systems, embedded software has been more complicated then before, a software developer is required to test her/his software to make a efficient embedded system software in both time and space. This paper suggests a testing tool with which a software developer can easily test the embedded system software in cross-development environments. The suggested tool is designed based on host/target architecture, to provide an intuitive test environment in which a test case can be executed in a target board. The tool uses an XML-based test script to generate an appropriate test case. It includes a tree-based test script editor with which a developer can easily make a test case. Therefore, with the suggested tool, a develop can put down a burden on an software testing and get more productivity in software development related on embedded system.

  • Autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) have a limited bandwidth for real-time communication, limiting rapid responses to unexpected obstacles. This study addressed how AUVs can navigate to a target without a pre-existing obstacle map by generating one in real-time and avoiding obstacles. This paper proposes using forward-looking sonar with an occupancy grid map (OGM) for real-time obstacle mapping and a potential field algorithm for avoiding obstacles. The OGM segments the map into grids, updating the obstacle probability of each cell for precise, quick mapping. The potential field algorithm attracts the AUV towards the target and uses repulsive forces from obstacles for path planning, enhancing computational efficiency in a dynamic environment. Experiments were conducted in coastal waters with obstacles to verify the real-time obstacle mapping and avoidance algorithm. Despite the high noise in sonar data, the experimental results confirmed effective obstacle mapping and avoidance. The OGM-based potential field algorithm was computationally efficient, suitable for single-board computers, and demonstrated proper parameter adjustments through two distinct scenarios. The experiments also identified some of challenges, such as dynamic changes in detection rates, propulsion bubbles, and changes in repulsive forces caused by sudden obstacles. An enhanced algorithm to address these issues is currently under development.

  • This paper describes some major schemes for developing timing signal generator which can be used for testing of 3D radars. The developed generator has a function not only to simulate information on elevation angle for the simulated target signals but also to generate a modulated signal up to 80MHz. Because this generator has an internal modulating function instead of an external modulating function and has sufficient memory enough to change the parameters according to operating programs, it realization of various test-environments for testing a radar can be made with easy and with low expense.

For it interfaces with target board as an embedded system was developed, which was applied to specific green room model and verified of its usefulness. We implemented client/server socket programs using Java classes, and web based green room monitoring and control system as an user interface using JavaApplet. The implemented system did send information of green room model to client programs well on TCP/IP and control signals from client to green room model well too.
