STOCHASTIC SINGLE MACHINE SCHEDULING SUBJECT TO MACHINES BREAKDOWNS WITH QUADRATIC EARLY-TARDY PENALTIES FOR THE PREEMPTIVE-REPEAT MODEL

  • In this paper we research the problem in which the objective is to minimize the sum of squared deviations of job expected completion times from the due date, and the job processing times are stochastic. In the problem the machine is subject to stochastic breakdowns and all jobs are preempt-repeat. In order to show that the replacing ESSD by SSDE is reasonable, we discuss difference between ESSD function and SSDE function. We first give an express of the expected completion times for both cases without resampling and with resampling. Then we show that the optimal sequence of the problem V-shaped with respect to expected occupying time. A dynamic programming algorithm based on the V-shape property of the optimal sequence is suggested. The time complexity of the algorithm is pseudopolynomial.

  • In this paper, we propose a simple and relatively efficient heuristic method to determine job sequencing in the flow-shop considering multiple criteria such as processing time, due date and cost. The proposed method is applicable to the flow- shop where the jobs are released simultaneously and their processing sequence is predetermined and not changed until the whole jobs are processed. To develop this method, we mixed and modified some well-known multi-attribute decision heuristics such as the simple linear weighting scheme, the lexicographic rule and the 'elimination by aspect' rule. Some computer simulations were conducted to test the efficiency of the proposed method and it has been compared with the SWPT (Shortest Working Processing Time) rule and EDD (Earliest Due Date) rule. The results show that our method is as effective as the traditional ones in terms of mean flow time, tardiness, makespan, cycle time, machine utilization, etc., and proved to be much simpler and more flexible to be used in real situations.

Development of a Descriptive Cost Effectiveness Model for a Subcontractor with Limited Resources

  • It only takes one failed project to wipe out an entire year's profit, when the projects are not managed efficiently. Additionally, escalating costs of materials and a competitive local construction market make subcontractors a challenge. Subcontractors have finite resources that should be allocated simultaneously across many projects in a dynamic manner. Significant scheduling problems are posed by concurrent multi-projects with limited resources. The objective of this thesis is to identify the effect of productivity changes on the total cost resulting from shifting crews across projects using a descriptive model. To effectively achieve the objective, this study has developed a descriptive cost model for a subcontractor with multi-resources and multi-projects. The model was designed for a subcontractor to use as a decision-making tool for resources allocation and scheduling. The model identified several factors affecting productivity. Moreover, when the model was tested using hypothetical data, it produced some effective combinations of resource allocation with associated total costs. Furthermore, a subcontractor minimizes total costs by balancing overtime costs, tardiness penalties, and incentive bonus, while satisfying available processing time constraints.

  • This paper is concerned with the multiobjective vehicle scheduling problem with time and area-dependent travel speeds(MVSPTD), in which two conflicting objectives are explicitly treated and the travel speed between two locations depends on the passing area and time of day. The two objectives are the minimization of total vehicle travel time and the minimization of total weighted tardiness. First, I construct a mixed integer linear programming formulation of the MVSPTD, and present o heuristic algorithm that builds the vehicle schedules based on the savings computed. The results of computational experiments showed that the heuristic performs very well. Finally, I propose an expert system for vehicle scheduling in the MVSPTD. Its whole process is executed under VP-Expert expert system environment.

  • Recently, the researches of real-time scheduling that manage flexibly system movement are being progressed by using simulation. But because the existing researches are focused on state change of whole system and selected dispatching with real-time, it could not reflect the state changes of each work center accurately, Therefore, the main core of this paper is to examine the state of workcenter, to select the optimal dispatching dynamically through simulation, and to present the algorithm that can manage actively on state of workcenter. Also, performance measure was used the mean tardiness and mean flow time that are used existing researches.

  • In this paper, I propose a hybrid genetic algorithm(HGAM) incorporating a greedy interchange local optimization procedure for the multiobjective vehicle scheduling problems with service due times where three conflicting objectives of the minimization of total vehicle travel time, total weighted tardiness, and fleet size are explicitly treated. The vehicle is allowed to visit a node exceeding its due time with a penalty, but within the latest allowable time. The HGAM applies a mixed farming and migration strategy in the evolution process. The strategy splits the population into sub-populations, all of them evolving independently, and applys a local optimization procedure periodically to some best entities in sub-populations which are then substituted by the newly improved solutions. A solution of the HCAM is represented by a diploid structure. The HGAM uses a molified PMX operator for crossover and new types of mutation operator. The performance of the HGAM is extensively evaluated using the Solomons test problems. The results show that the HGAM attains better solutions than the BC-saving algorithm, but with a much longer computation time.

  • This research is concerned with n jobs, m parallel identical machines scheduling problem in which all jobs have a common due date. The objective of the research is to develop an optimum scheduling algorithm for determining an optimal job sequence, the optimal value of the common due date and the minimum makespan to minimize total cost. The total cost is based on the common due date cost, the earliness cost, the tardiness cost and the flow time cost of each job in the selected sequence. The optimum scheduling algorithm is developed. A numerical example is given to illustrate the scheduling algorithm.

병렬 기계 스케줄링을 위한 제한적 이웃해 생성 방안 (A Restricted Neighborhood Generation Scheme for Parallel Machine Scheduling)

  • In this paper, we present a restricted tabu search(RTS) algorithm that schedules jobs on identical parallel machines in order to minimize the maximum lateness of jobs. Jobs have release times and due dates. Also, sequence-dependent setup times exist between jobs. The RTS algorithm consists of two main parts. The first part is the MATCS(Modified Apparent Tardiness Cost with Setups) rule that provides an efficient initial schedule for the RTS. The second part is a search heuristic that employs a restricted neighborhood generation scheme with the elimination of non-efficient job moves in finding the best neighborhood schedule. The search heuristic reduces the tabu search effort greatly while obtaining the final schedules of good quality. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm gives better solutions quickly than the existing heuristic algorithms such as the RHP(Rolling Horizon Procedure) heuristic, the basic tabu search, and simulated annealing.

  • In order to maximize an availability of machine and utilization of space, the parallel machines scheduling problem with space limit is frequently discussed in the industrial field. In this paper, we consider a scheduling problem for assembly machine in ship engine assembly shop. This paper considers the parallel machine scheduling problem in which n jobs having different release times, due dates and space limits are to be scheduled on m parallel machines. The objective function is to minimize the sum of earliness and tardiness. To solve this problem, a heuristic is developed. The proposed heuristic is divided into three modules hierarchically: job selection, machine selection and job sequencing, solution improvement. To illustrate its effectiveness, a proposed heuristic is evaluated with a large number of randomly generated test problems based on the field situation. Through the computational experiment, we determine the job selection rule that is suitable to the problem situation considered in this paper and show the effectiveness of our heuristic.

주문 생산 방식을 따르는 혼합 흐름 공정에서의일정계획에 관한 연구 (Scheduling Methods for a Hybrid Flowshopwith Dynamic Order Arrival)

  • This paper considers a scheduling problem for a hybrid flowshop with dynamic order arrival. A hybrid flowshop is an extended form of a flowshop, which has serial stages like a flowshop but there can be more than one machine at each stage. In this paper, we propose a new method for the problem of scheduling with the objective of minimizing mean tardiness of orders which arrive at the shop dynamically. The proposed method is based on the list scheduling approach, however we use a more sophisticated method to prioritize lots unlike dispatching rule-based methods. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, a simulation model of a hybrid flowshop-type production system is constructed. We implement well-known dispatching rules and the proposed methods in the simulation model. From a series of simulation tests, we show that the proposed methods perform better than other methods.
