Model tests on resistance and seakeeping performance of wave-piercing high-speed vessel with spray rails

  • The resistance and seakeeping performance of a high-speed monohull vessel were investigated through a series of model tests in a towing tank. The hull had a slender wave-piercing bow, round bilge, and small deadrise angle on stern. Tests on the bare hull in calm water were first conducted and tests on spray rails followed. The spray rails were designed to control the flow direction and induce a hydrodynamic lift force on the hull bottom to reduce trim angle and increase rise of the hull. The maximum trim of the bare hull was $4.65^{\circ}$ at the designed speed, but the spray rails at optimum location reduced trim by $0.97^{\circ}$. The ship motion in head seas was examined after the calm water tests. Attaching the rails on the optimum location effectively reduced the pitch and heave motion responses. The vertical acceleration at the fore perpendicular reduced by 11.3%. The effective power in full scale was extrapolated from the model test results and it was revealed that the spray rails did not have any negative effects on the resistance performance of the hull, while they effectively stabilized the vessel in calm water and waves.

  • As the first step to investigate the nonlinear interactions between turbulence and marine structures inside a viscous NWT, a LES technique was applied to the turbulent channel flow for $Re_{T}=150$, in this paper. The employed models were 4 types, such as the Smagorinsky model, the Dynamic SGS model, the Structure Function model and the Generalized Normal Stress model. The simulated data in time-series for the LESs were averaged in both time and space and performed statistical analysis. And results of the LESs were compared with those of a DNS developed in the present study and two spectral methods by Yoon et al.(2003) & Kim et al.(1987). It seems to be quite difficult to evaluate their performances to the present problem, but is seen that the accuracy of LESs are still related to the number of grids(or fine grid size).

모형 실험과 수치 해석을 통한 단선용 모형 오일펜스의 성능 해석 (Efficiency of Model Oil Fences for One Vessel Using a Physical Experiment and Numerical Calculation)

  • This study evaluated the efficiency of an oil fence and spreading devices for one vessel in a towing tank. A series of model experiments and numerical calculations were conducted using an existing oil fence for two vessels and a new method for one vessel. Models of the oil fence and spreading devices were constructed on $1/20^{th}$ scale from waterproofed nylon fabric and canvas. The tensions acting on the model of the oil fences and the horizontal distance between the spreading devices were calculated numerically while the oil fences were being towed. The results were extremely close to the results of the model experiments. The ratio of the opening width to the total length of the oil fence, which shows the efficiency of the oil fence for one vessel, was 49.7% in 0.4 m/sec. Therefore, the proposed oil fence system should be very useful for oil containment at sea. As the opening width of the oil fence is not proportional to the length of the towing rope, it may be reasonable to maintain the towing rope at approximately 100 m. Furthermore, a reasonable towing speed, when operating the oil fence for one vessel equipped with spreading devices, was within 0.4 m/sec.

유한차분법을 이용한 컨테이너선의 선수선형 개량 (Bow-Hull Form Development of a Container Ship by Using Finite Difference Method)

  • 본 논문에서는 유한차분법을 이용하여 선수파형을 계산하고, 이 결과를 비교평가 하므로서 선수선형 개량에 활용할 수 있는 한 방법에 대하여 기술하였다. 여기에서 사용된 대상선박은 당사에서 개발완료한 4,400TEU급 고속 컨테이너선으로 기본선형과 선수수정 선형에 대한 수치계산과 모형시험이 각각 수행되었으며, 본 차분방법 의한 계산 결과를 Simplified N-K problem과 Rankine source method, 그리고 모형시험 결과와 각각 비교하였다. 이 결과 유한차분법에 의한 계산결과는 모형시험 결과와 매우 근사한 경향을 보였고, 따라서 선박초기 설계단계에서 최적선수선형, 특히 최적 벌브형상을 결정하는데에 유용하게 사용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

  • Through a series of bollard pull tests of a propeller in partially submerged condition, thrust, torque, and shaft excitation force of a conventional propeller model were measured using a six-component load cell. By variation of the Weber number and Reynolds number, a consistent towing tank model test condition was derived. The effects of propeller immersion depth on the ventilation behavior and change of force and moment acting onto the propeller shaft were investigated. The decrease in thrust owing to the inception of ventilation was confirmed, and a large degree of dispersion of the thrust and torque coefficients were also observed in the transition region where the blade tip was under the water surface. The shaft excitation force was derived from the force and moment onto the propeller shaft.

  • 최근, 지구온난화와 대기오염 등에 의해 신재생에너지에 관한 관심이 증가해 왔다. 특히, 가까운 미래에 직면하게 될 화석에너지자원의 고갈문제는 이와 같은 신재생에너지 기술을 가속화 시키고 있다. 다양한 재생가능 에너지자원 중에서 지구의 3/4을 점유하고 있는 해양은 막대한 에너지를 보유하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 항내 수질개선과 파랑에너지의 이용이라는 두 목적을 달성하기 위하여 공기실 내에서 해수면의 상하운동을 공기흐름으로 변환하고, 이를 터빈의 구동력으로 이용하는 파력발전장치인 진동수주형(OWC, Oscillating Water Column) 파력발전시스템을 적용한 해수교환구조물을 제시한다. 또한, 3차원불규칙파수치파동수로에 기초한 3D-NIT(3-Dimensional Numerical Irregular wave Tank)모델을 불규칙파동장에 적용하여 산정된 공기실 내 수위변동의 시간변화로부터 공기흐름속도를 추정하고, 입사주파수스펙트럼의 변화에 따른 공기흐름 주파수스펙트럼의 변화특성, 구조물의 존재여부에 따른 공기실 위치에서 주파수스펙트럼의 변화특성, 구조물에 의한 파랑변형율의 변화특성 및 공기흐름과 유체흐름에 의한 동력 등을 검토한다. 이로부터 공기실 내에서 수위변동 및 공기흐름의 시계열 자료에서 위상차가 존재하며, 유체흐름에 의한 동력이 공기흐름에 의한 동력에 비해 미흡하다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

방사성동위원소 추적자를 이용한 침적형 고정 미생물 반응조 진단 (Diagnosis of Submerged Fixed Bioreactor using Radioisotope Tracer)

  • 염색폐수를 생물학적으로 처리하여 방류하는 연속으로 연결되어있는 6개의 단으로 구성된 폐수처리시설에서 폐수 유동을 관찰하고 처리공정에 영향을 줄 수 있는 요인들을 찾기 위해 동위원소를 이용한 추적자 실험을 수행하였다. 추적자로 약 20mCi의 $^{131}I$를 첫 번째 단의 폐수 유입부에 투입하고 각 단에 방사선 검출기를 설치하여 시간에 따른 추적자 농도변화를 측정하였다. 측정된 데이터를 Perfect Mixers in Series Model을 이용한 분석을 통하여 평균체재시간과 시스템에서의 유동 특성 파라미터들을 계산하였다. 시스템의 평균체재시간은 설계치인 22.3시간의 76%인 17시간으로 계산되었다. 시스템을 구성하고 있는 6개의 단 중에서 제1단은 완전혼합기(perfect mixer)로서의 특성을 보이지 않았으나, 나머지 5개의 단은 완전혼합기와 같이 작동하였다. 제1단의 출력은 상호 교환이 일어나는 탱크를 가진 완전혼합기 모델로 모사한 출력과 좋은 일치를 보였다. 이 교환되는 탱크의 크기는 전체의 약 4분의 1인 것으로 분석되었다. 체재시간분포 실험의 결과는 유입 폐수의 방사선 전처리를 위해 설치된 전자선가속기의 가동조건 변경 후 그 영향에 대한 연구를 위한 적정 시료채취시간 산정에 사용되었다.

비대칭 형상 파력발전 로터의 선형 거동에 대한 수치적·실험적 연구 (Numerical and Experimental Study on Linear Behavior of Salter's Duck Wave Energy Converter)

  • Among the various wave power systems, Salter's duck (rotor) is one of the most effective wave absorbers for extracting wave energy. The rotor shape is designed such that the front part faces the direction of the incident wave, which forces it to bob up and down due to wave-induced water particle motion, whereas the rear part, which is mostly circular in shape, reflects no waves. The asymmetric geometric shape of the duck makes it absorb energy efficiently. In the present study, the rotor was investigated using WAMIT (a program based on the linear potential flow theory in three-dimensional diffraction/radiation analyses) in the frequency domain and verified using OrcaFlex (design and analysis program of marine system) in the time domain. Then, an experimental investigation was conducted to assess the performance of the rotor motion based on the model scale in a two-dimensional (2D) wave tank. Initially, a free decay test (FDT) was carried out to obtain the viscous damping coefficient. The pitch response was extracted from the experimental time series in a periodic regular wave for two different wave heights (1 cm and 3 cm). In addition, the viscous damping coefficient was calculated from the FDT result and fluid forces, obtained from WAMIT, are incorporated into the final response of the rotor. Finally, a comparative study based on experimental and numerical results (WAMIT & OrcaFlex) was performed to confirm the performance reliability of the designed rotor.

벌크 트레일러의 순간 및 누적 분말 배출량 추정을 위한 신경망 모델 성능 비교 (Performance Comparison of Neural Network Models for the Estimation of Instantaneous and Accumulated Powder Exhausts of a Bulk Trailer)

  • Bulk trailers, used for the transportation of powdered materials, such as cement and fly ash, are crucial in the construction industry. The speedy exhaustion of powdered materials stored in the tank of bulk trailers is relevant to improving transportation efficiency and reducing transportation costs. The exhaust time can be reduced by developing an automatic control system to replace the manual exhaust operation. The instantaneous or accumulated exhausts of powdered materials must be measured for automatic control of the bulk trailer exhaust system. Accordingly, we previously proposed a recurrent neural network (RNN) model that estimated the instantaneous exhaust based on low-cost pressure sensor signals without an expensive flowmeter for powders. Although our previous study utilized only an RNN model, models such as multilayer perceptron (MLP) and convolutional neural network (CNN) are also widely utilized for time-series estimation. This study compares the performance of three neural network models (MLP, CNN, and RNN) in estimating instantaneous and accumulated exhausts. In terms of the instantaneous exhaust estimation, the difference in the performance of neural network models was insignificant (that is, 8.64, 8.62, and 8.56% for the MLP, CNN, and RNN, respectively, in terms of the normalized root mean squared error). However, in the case of the accumulated exhaust, the performance was excellent in the order of CNN (1.67%), MLP (2.03%), and RNN (2.20%).

Series 60, $C_B=0.60$ 선형의 형상계수의 특성고찰 (On the Characteristics of Form Factors -Series 60, $C_B=0.60$-)

  • 국제선형시험수조회의의 저항시험에 관한 표준선형인 Series 60, $C_B=0.60$에 대하여 서로 크기가 다른 5척의 모형선을 국내의 선형시험수조 보유기관(한국기계연구소 선박분소, 현대선박해양연구소, 서울대학교, 인하대학교)에서 제작, 교환하여 상사모형시험을 수행하였다. 이 결과를 Hughes 및 Telfer의 방법에 따라 해석하여 형상계수와 모형선의 크기 및 예인속도와의 관계를 파악하고자 했다. 이 선형에 대해서 형상계수는 Reynolds 수 뿐만 아니라 Froude 수에 따라서도 변화하는 것을 확인하였다. 또한 현행의 형상계수를 이용한 실선저항추정법이 공학적 유용성을 가지고 있음을 재확인하였다. 선형특성이 다른 여러 선형에 대해서 상사모형시험을 실시하므로서 보편적인 원리를 파악하는 것이 필요하다고 판단된다.
