  • This paper presents the motion accuracy simulation considering loads such as workpiece weight, cutting force, cogging force of a linear motor, and force caused by misalignment and runout error of a ballscrew in linear motion units. The transfer function method is basically utilized to estimate 5-DOF motion errors, together with the equilibrium equations of force and moment on the table. The transfer function method is modified in order to consider clearance changed according to the loads in the double sided hydrostatic/aerostatic bearings. Then, the analytic model for predicting the 5-DOF motion errors is proposed with the modified transfer function method. Motion errors were simulated under different loading conditions in the linear motion units using hydrostatic, aerostatic, and linear motion bearings, respectively. And the proposed analytic model was verified by comparing the estimated and measured motion errors.

  • The integrated environment for the fuzzy logic controller with the acceleration converter to improve the dynamic characteristic of a one-axis moving table is proposed in the paper. The two inputs of the fuzzy logic controller are position error and velocity. The two inputs of the acceleration converter used to produce the acceleration input for the one-axis moving table are actual and setting rotational speeds. The proposed controller is implemented on a personal computer by using MATLAB and Visual Basic for a real time control via a motion control board. The position control results when the stair input is applied to control the position of the one-axis moving table, are shown. The experimental results of the proposed position control system are compared to the conventional PID ...

  • Recently, the machine tools called multi-task machines, which mounted rotary axes on the table or spindle are used increasingly. Accordingly, multi-task machine tool takes a growing interest on the motion accuracy of feed drive system. In this study, measurement and diagnosis of motion errors ware attempted from circular pattern obtained by using DBB (Double ball bar) device. Those were obtained at both clockwise and counter clockwise motions in mutually perpendicularly intersecting three planes. The reliability of error measurement system for multi-task machine tool was verified by the direct test cutting.

  • The utilization of micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) gyros and accelerometers in low-level inertial measurement unit (IMU) influences cost effectiveness in a positive way under the condition that device error characteristics are fully calibrated. The conventional calibration process utilizes a rate table; however, this paper proposes a new method for achieving reference calibration data from the natural motion of pendulum to which the IMU undergoing calibration is attached. This concept was validated with experimental data. The pendulum angle measurements correlate extremely well with the solutions acquired from the pendulum equation of motion. The calibration data were computed using the regression method. The whole process was validated by comparing the measurement from the 6 sensor components with the measurements reconstructed using the identified calibration data.

  • In order to study the correlation between the pilot's cognitive ability and recovery ability by applying a physical element that can cause spatial loss of position to the pilot, a turntable was installed on the top of the motion system to give a quantitative rotational error. We propose a method of simulating flight movement to reduce a difference in feeling and an intuitive method of forward kinematic analysis.

  • Microprocessor-based software DDA interpolator is developed and applied to two axis contouring control of X-Y table. Developed assembly program is composed of feedrate, linear and circular DDA interpolation routines. Reference-pulse type of open-loop stepping motor control system in which the micro-computer produces a sequence of reference pulses for each axis of motion is adopted. To test performance of the developed program, X-Y table drive system based on stepping motor and shaft encoder is designed. Conturing error of the system in linear and circular path is within .+-. 0.2mm under start stop pulse rate of stepping motor.

  • As the run out error and misalignment of ball screw connected directly to guide table largely affect the motion accuracy of guideway, floating coupling that releases the table from screw nut except feed and rotational direction is needed todecrease its influences. The purpose of this study is to propose a practical model floating coupling of ball serew for high precision feeding system. The straightness, dynanic characteristics and micro step response of hydrostatic guideway, mounted with three types of coupling fixed type, leaf spring type and hydrostatic type, are tested and compared. From the resuts of experiments, it is proved that a hydrostatic type floating coupling is superior to other couplings and is available to high precision feeding system with ball screw.

  • Micro laser fabrication techniques can potentially be used for the manufacture of microstructures on the thin flat surfaces with large diameter that are frequently used in semiconductor industries. However, the large size of wafers can cause the degraded machining accuracy of the surface because it can be tilted or distorted by geometric errors of machines or the holding fixtures, etc. To overcome these errors the off-line focusing error compensation method is proposed. By using confocal autofocus system, the focusing error profile of machined surface is measured along the pre-determined path and can be compensated at the next machining process by making the corrected motion trajectories. The experimental results for silicon wafers and invar flat surfaces show that the proposed method can compensate the focusing error within the level of below $6.9{\mu}m$ that is the depth of focus required for the laser micromachining process.

  • In this paper, A new 2-D DCT algorithm is proposed to reduce the computational amount of transform operation using the distribution of the motion compensated error signal and the bit allocation table. In the this algorithm, 2-D Walsh-Hadamard transform is directly computed and then multiplied by a constant matrix. Multiplications are concentrated on the final stage in thie algorithm, thus the computational amount is reduced in proportion to the number of transform coefficients that are excluded from quatization. The computational amount in computing only the DCT coefficients allocated to the bit allocation table is calculated. As the result, the number of multiplications is less thn the algorithm known to have the fewest number of computations when less than 0.6 bits per pixel are allocated to tranform coding for the motion compensated error image in the case of the proposed algorithm. Thus, it shows that the proposed algorithm is valid in reducing the computational loads of transform coding.
