  • Molecular association of glucose transporters with the other proteins in the plasma membrane was assessed by gel electrophoresis and immunoblot techniques. Approximately $31.5{\pm}5.1%$ of GLUT-4, $64.8{\pm}2.7%$ of clathrin, 48.7% of total protein in the plasma membrane (PM) were found insoluble upon extraction with 1% Tx-100. Sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis revealed that the Tx-100 insoluble PM fraction contained about 4 major polypeptides with apparent molecular weight of above 200, 100-120, 80 and 30-35 KDa that were readily removed upon wash with a high pH buffer which is known to remove clathrin and 0.5 M Tris-buffer which is known to remove assembly proteins (AP). Immunoblotting of GLUT4 and clathrin against specific antibodies showed that GLUT-4 and clathrin were co-solubilized up to 84.6% and 82.7% respectively by wash with a high pH buffer and 1% Tx-100. When the membrane was pre-washed with a high pH buffer and 0.5 M Tris solution, GLUT4 and clathrin were not solubilized further suggesting that GLUT4 molecules are in molecular association with clathrin, AP and/or other extrinsic membrane proteins in plasma membrane and the formation of clathrin-coated structures might be involved in insulin stimulated glucose transporter translocation mechanism.

  • Using the notch and isolation, we investigated the insertion loss and isolation characterics of the fabricated dielectric duplexers and bandpass filters for CDMA and W-CDMA dualband. Insertion loss(Tx band) and isolation(between Tx and Rx) of duplxer were about -2.1708dB and 45dB at CDMA band, respectively. Also, in the case of W-CDMA, the insertion loss(Tx band) and isolation(between Tx and Rx) showed about -2.6946 and 100dB, respectively. Summering the aboved results, fabricated the dielectric duplexers and bandpass filters will be contributed the increase of atttenuation and the decrease of interference at CDMA and W-CDMA dualband.

  • Under pseudo-first order conditions, the monomeric species of Cr(VI) was found to be kinetically active in the absence of phenanthroline (phen) whereas in the phen-promoted path, the Cr(VI)-phen complex undergoes a nucleophilic attack by etane-1,2-diol to form a ternary complex which subsequently experience a redox decomposition leading to hydroxy ethanal and Cr(III)-phen complex. The effect of the cationic surfactant (CPC), anionic surfactant (SDS) and neutral surfactant (TX-100) on the unpromoted and phen-promoted path have been studied. Micellar effects have been explained by considering the preferential partitioning of reactants between the micellar and aqueous phase. Combination of TX-100 and phenanthroline will be the ideal for chromic acid oxidation of ethane-1,2-diol in aqueous media.

  • Objective: To investigate the treatment modalities (Tx-Mods) for patients with unilateral hemifacial microsomia (UHFM) according to Pruzansky-Kaban types and growth stages. Methods: The samples consisted of 82 Korean UHFM patients. Tx-Mods were defined as follows: Tx-Mod-1, growth observation due to mild facial asymmetry; Tx-Mod-2, unilateral functional appliance; Tx-Mod-3, fixed orthodontic treatment; Tx-Mod-4, growth observation due to a definite need for surgical intervention; Tx-Mod-5, unilateral mandibular or bimaxillary distraction osteogenesis (DO); Tx-Mod-6, maxillary fixation using LeFort I osteotomy and mandibular DO/sagittal split ramus osteotomy; Tx-Mod-7, orthognathic surgery; and Tx-Mod-8, costochondral grafting. The type and frequency of Tx-Mod, the number of patients who underwent surgical procedures, and the number of surgeries that each patient underwent, were investigated. Results: The degree of invasiveness and complexity of Tx-Mod increased, with an increase in treatment stage and Pruzansky-Kaban type (initial < final; [I, IIa] < [IIb, III], all p < 0.001). The percentage of patients who underwent surgical procedures increased up to 4.2 times, with an increase in the Pruzansky-Kaban type (I, 24.1%; IIa, 47.1%; IIb, 84.4%; III, 100%; p < 0.001). However, the mean number of surgical procedures that each patient underwent showed a tendency of increase according to the Pruzansky-Kaban types (I, n = 1.1; IIa, n = 1.5; IIb, n = 1.6; III, n = 2.3; p > 0.05). Conclusions: These findings might be used as basic guidelines for successful treatment planning and prognosis prediction in UHFM patients.

  • The critical micelle concentrations($CMC^*$) of the mixed surfactant systems of cationic surfactant cetylpyridinium chloride(CPC) and nonionic surfactant Triton X-100(TX-100) in aqueous solutions of salts(KCl and $Na_2CO_3$) and isomeric butanols(tert-butanol, iso-butanol and n-butanol) were determined by UV spectroscopy method. The various thermodynamic values in aqueous solutions of salts and isomeric butanols were compared with the values in pure water, calculated by means of the equation derived from the pseudo-phase separation model. Thermodynamic parameters($X_1$, $\beta$, ${\gamma}i$, $ai^M$, $C_i$ and ${\Delta}H_{mix}$) were found to have great effects of salts and isomeric butanols on the mixed micellization of CPC/TX-100 mixtures, and also in good agreements with the nonideal mixed micelle model. They showed all negative deviations from the ideal mixed micellar behavior.

  • This paper presents the digital signal processing submodule of a 100Base-TX Ethernet receiver to support 100Mbps at TP cable channel. The proposed submodule consists of programmable gain controller, timing recovery, adaptive equalizer and baseline wander compensator. The measured Bit Error Rate is less than $10^{-12}BER$ when continuously receiving data up to 150m. The proposed signal processing submodule is implemented in digital circuits except for PLL and amplifier. The performance improvement of the proposed equalizer and BLW compensator is measured about 1dB compared with the existing architecture that removes BLW using errors of an adaptive equalizer. The architecture has been modeled using Verilog-HDL and synthesized using samsung $0.18{\mu}m$ cell library. The implemented digital signal processing submodule operates at 142.7 MHz and the total number of gates are about 128,528.

  • The K-PCS and W-CDMA dual band dielectric duplexer and bandpass filters have been designed and fabricated. The dual band duplexer consists of the separate monoblock K-PCS and W-CDMA duplexers using common antenna port. The coupling capacitance and I/O impedance matching have been designed to minimize the cross interference between the bands. Isolations of crosspoint between Tx and Rx in K-PCS and W-CDMA dualband were about 47 dB and 100 dB, respectively. On the other hand, isolations of Tx and Rx in K-PCS and W-CDMA were about 66 dB and 65 dB, respectively. The difference between 47 dB and 100 dB originated from the different center frequencies in Tx and Rx of K-PCS and W-CDMA bands. The coupling capacitance of the bandwidth, I/O capacitance of I/O matching and impedance matching, and various capacitances were important role to fabricate the dielectric duplexer and bandpass filters.

  • In the present investigation, kinetic studies of oxidation of formic acid with and without catalyst and promoter in aqueous acid media were studied under the pseudo-first order conditions [formic acid]T ${\gg}[Cr(VI)]_T$ at room temperature. In the 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) promoted path, the cationic Cr(VI) phen complex is the main active oxidant species undergoes a nucleophilic attack by the substrate to form a ternary complex which subsequently experiences a redox decomposition through several steps leading to the products $CO_2$ and $H_2$ along with the Cr(III) phen complex. The anionic surfactant (i.e., sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS) and neutral surfactant (i.e., Triton X-100, TX-100) act as catalyst and the reaction undergo simultaneously in both aqueous and micellar phase with an enhanced rate of oxidation in the micellar phase. Whereas the cationic surfactant (i.e., N-cetyl pyridinium chloride, CPC) acts as an inhibitor restricts the reaction to aqueous phase. The observed net enhancement of rate effects has been explained by considering the hydrophobic and electrostatic interaction between the surfactants and reactants. The neutral surfactant TX-100 has been observed as the suitable micellar catalyst for the phen promoted chromic acid oxidation of formic acid.

  • The effects of surfactants, CTAB, SDS, and TX-100, on the fluorescence emission intensity of Be-morin complex was studied in terms of pH, temperature, added electrolyte, and concentration of surfactants. The ionic surfactants decreased the fluorescence intensity of the complex. However, the addition of TX-100 caused a substantial increase in the fluorescence intensity without spectral shift, by which means the detection limit of Be was obtained to be 0.3 ppb. Optimum pH for Be determination was near 9.6 and the fluorescence intensity showed a continuous decline with the increase of temperature. Nitrate ion lowered the fluorescence intensity considerably. Mechanism of the interference remains to be elucidated.

  • Objective: To investigate the dental phenotypes and treatment modalities (Tx-Mod) in Korean patients with Parry-Romberg syndrome (PRS) using longitudinal data. Methods: The samples consisted of 10 PRS patients, who were treated and/or followed-up at Seoul National University Dental Hospital between 1998 and 2019. Using a novel PRS severity index based on the numbers of the atrophy-involved area and asymmetry-involved item, we classified them into mild (n = 3), moderate (n = 2), and severe (n = 5). Dental phenotypes, including congenitally missing tooth (Con-Missing-Tooth), microdontia, tooth with short root (Short-Root), tooth with dilacerated root, and delayed eruption/impacted tooth, were investigated along with Tx-Mod. Results: The side of occurrence of all dental phenotypes showed 100% concordance with the side of PRS involvement. The most two common dental phenotypes were Con-Missing-Tooth and Short-Root (n = 29 and n = 17 in six patients). The sums of the average number of Con-Missing-Tooth and Short-Root increased from mild PRS to moderate PRS and severe PRS cases (1.0, 6.0, and 6.2). In terms of Tx-Mod, growth observation due to mild atrophy, fixed orthodontic treatment, and grafting were used for mild PRS cases. Tx-Mod for moderate PRS cases involved growth observation for surgery due to an early age at the initial visit. For severe PRS cases, diverse Tx-Mod combinations including unilateral functional appliance, fixed orthodontic treatment, growth observation, grafting, and orthognathic surgery were used. Conclusions: The novel PRS severity index may be useful to provide primary data for individualized diagnosis and treatment planning for PRS patients.
