The purpose of this study is to analyze the composition for visual character to make the process of television programs. The study can be classified as a visual communication methods into a target audiences. At the beginning of using visual character was communication method as an insufficiency of television programs. However, In recent years, television industry using visual character in many ways into television programs that it can be classified not only to developed the communication method as a function of effects, but also to changed substitute a variety of graphic pattern of visual character in television programs. As a matter of fact, this study have some implication in terms of using a visual character to making television program, therefore, the results show that different ways of using visual character into the diversity of television programs were discussed.

In this paper, we propose TV caption-based KSL(Korean Sign Language) generation system. Through TV caption decoder, this caption signal is transmitted to PC. Next, caption signal is segmented into meaning units by morphological analyzer in considering specific characteristics of Korean sign language. Finally, 3D KSL generation system represents the transformed morphological information by 3D visual graphics. Specifically, we propose a morphological analyzer with many pre-processing techniques for real-time capability. Our developed system is applied to real TV caption program. Through usage of the deaf, we conclude that our system is sufficiently usable compared to conventional TV caption program.

In this paper, we consider the current status of smart TV and propose a business model established on the smart TV ecosystem. There are two views on the outlook of the smart TV market, one of which takes optimistic prospect and the other one is pessimistic. However, mostly it is believed that the innovation will continue in smart TV technology and the market will expand. In this paper, we proposes a two-way, active and consumer oriented business model for smart TV using subtitle information. Finally, we expect to contributing to reduce the gap of information between countries to spread the Han-Wave.

Research on recovering original images from captions has been widely done in a reusability point of view. In usual, dynamic images imported from foreign countries often have captions of foreign languages, so it is necessary to translate them into one's language. For the natural exchange of captions without loss of original images, recovering the images corresponding to captions is necessary. However, though recovering original images is very important, systematic analysis on the characteristics of captions has not been done yet. Therefore, in this paper, we first survey the classification methods of TV programs at academic worlds, broadcasting stations, and broadcasting organizations, and then analyses the frequency of captions, importance of caption contents, and necessity of recovering according to their types. Also, we analyze the characteristics of captions which are significantly recognized to be necessary to recover, and use them as recovering information.

지상파 방송에서는 청각장애인을 위해 폐쇄자막(closed caption) 서비스가 제공되고 있다. 현재의 폐쇄자막 방송은 속기사가 실시간으로 방송을 보면서 입력하기 때문에 지연이 있다. 또한 이렇게 입력된 폐쇄자막은 TV 프로그램 영상과 별도로 저장되기 때문에 영상과 그 시작점이 맞지 않는 경우가 대부분이다. 폐쇄자막을 온라인 서비스 등에 제공하고자 할 때 이러한 문제로 인해 영상과의 동기가 맞지 않아 사용이 어렵다. 본 논문에서는 TV 프로그램의 음성을 인식하여 동기화된 텍스트를 추출하고, 이를 기 저장된 폐쇄자막과 정렬하여 동기화하는 방법을 제안한다. 실제 TV 프로그램과 자막에 적용하였을 때 대부분의 음절과 라인에서 동기화가 정확히 이루어짐을 확인하였다.

For people who live in 'the Media Age', contact with the media is indispensable. In various mass media, especially TV, it is the most familiar and influential media, because it is easy to access and used regardless of age or gender. However, in many recent TV programs the subtitles of the misuse and abuse problems are pointed out. In the popular entertainment programs, and dramas, the problems are the most serious. Many entertainment programs organized during prime time have largely a family audience. Thus, the effects and responsibilities according to subtitles should be accompanied. The subtitles are an element that make up the entertainment program. In this study, the abuse cases of subtitle usage were analyzed. This study is aimed at maximizing the proper function of the subtitles, and creating fun and laughter through reducing misuses in various entertainment programs.

Deaf subtitles provide the hearing impaired with visual elements, commentary, and enjoyment of TV programs. Subtitles in game play are a great help to the game play for the hearing impaired as well as the average user. This paper aims at the academic research on the BIT subtitle system BIT, and is intended to help game play and game broadcasting of the hearing impaired.

디지털 TV 방송의 시작과 함께 온갖 종류의 정보를 쌍방향으로 전달할 수 있는 데이터 방송이 가능해졌다. 그 중 연동형 데이터 방송은 방송 프로그램을 전송하면서 그 프로그램과 관련된 데이터를 같이 제공하는 서비스이다. 본 논문에서는 TV 방송을 보면서 퀴즈 자막을 내보내고, 리모콘을 통해 즉각적인 정답확인이 가능한 데이터 방송 애플리케이션 Xlet을 개발하였다. 더불어 자막으로 내보내지는 퀴즈의 내용 및 유형 등을 제어하는 퀴즈 자막 편집기를 구현하였다. 프로그램 PD는 퀴즈 자막 편집기를 통해 퀴즈의 유형과 내용, 글자의 크기와 색상, 자막이 나가는 시간등을 선택하고. 제어된 내용을 파일에 저장할 수 있다. 실제 TV상의 에뮬레이터나 PC상의 에뮬레이터에서 데이터 방송 마스터 프로그램을 실행시키면 방송이 시작된다. 이 때 편집기를 통해 만들어진 파일의 내용을 읽어와 PD가 지정한 내용과 시간에 퀴즈를 내보내게 된다. 이것을 보는 시청자는 리모콘으로 답을 입력하고 그 에 대한 정답 여부를 확인할 수 있도록 한다.

In this paper, we study on making a use of value-added services using DTV closed caption data. Note that Closed-Captioning service helps to bridge "digital divide" through extending broadcasting accessibility of a neglected class such as hearing-impaired person and foreigner. In Korea, DTV Closed Captioning standard was developed in June 2007, and Closed Captioning service should be provided by an enforcing law in all broadcasting services in April 2008. Here, we describe the method of extracting a caption data from MPEG-2 Transport Stream of ATSC-based digital TV signal and generating a caption file using the extracted caption data and time information. In addition, we present the segmentation method of broadcasting content using caption file. Experimental results show that implemented S/W tool provides the feasibility of the proposed methods and the usability of closed caption for a variety of data application service.

Caption texts frequently inserted in a manufactured video image for helping an understanding of the TV audience. In the movies. replacement of the caption texts can be achieved without any loss of an original image, because the caption texts have their own track in the films. To replace the caption texts in early methods. the new texts have been inserted the caption area in the video images, which is filled a certain color for removing established caption texts. However, the use of these methods could be lost the original images in the caption area, so it is a Problematic method to the TV audience. In this Paper, we propose a new method for replacing the caption text after recovering original image in the caption area. In the experiments. the results in the complex images show some distortion after recovering original images, but most results show a good caption text with the recovered image. As such, this new method is effectively demonstrated to replace the caption texts in video images.
