We present an efficient algorithm using region-based average of variations of local correlation coefficients (LCC) for the extraction of texture regions. The key idea of this algorithm for the classification of texture and shade regions is to utilize the fact that the averages of the variations of LCCs according to different orientations texture regions are clearly larger than those in shade regions. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, we use nine test images (Lena, Bsail, Camera Man, Face, Woman, Elaine, Jet, Tree, and Tank) of 8-bit 256$\times$256 pixels. Experimental results show that the proposed feature extracts well the regions which appear visually as texture regions.

Recently most universities are suffering from students leaving their majors. In order to make a countermeasure for reducing major separation rate, many universities are trying to find a proper solution. As a similar endeavor, this paper uses decision tree algorithm which is one of the data mining techniques which conduct grouping or prediction into several sub-groups from interested groups. This technique can analyze a feature of type on students leaving their majors. The dataset consists of 5,115 features through data selection from total data of 13,346 collected from a university in Kangwon-Do during seven years(2000.3.1 $\sim$ 2006.6.30). The main objective of this study is to evaluate performance of algorithms including CHAID, CART and C4.5 for classification of students leaving their majors with ROC Chart, Lift Chart and Gains Chart. Also, this study provides values about accuracy, sensitivity, specificity using classification table. According to the analysis result, CART showed the best performance for classification of students leaving their majors.

Copy-move forgery (CMF) in digital images is a detrimental tampering of artefacts that requires precise detection and analysis. CMF is performed by copying and pasting a part of an image into other portions of it. Despite several efforts to detect CMF, accurate identification of noise, blur and rotated region-mediated forged image areas is still difficult. A novel algorithm is developed on the basis of quaternion polar complex exponential transform (QPCET) to detect CMF and is conducted involving a few steps. Firstly, the suspicious image is divided into overlapping blocks. Secondly, invariant features for each block are extracted using QPCET. Thirdly, the duplicated image blocks are determined using k-dimensional tree (kd-tree) block matching. Lastly, a new technique is introduced to reduce the flat region-mediated false matches. Experiments are performed on numerous images selected from the CoMoFoD database. MATLAB 2017b is used to employ the proposed method. Metrics such as correct and false detection ratios are utilised to evaluate the performance of the proposed CMF detection method. Experimental results demonstrate the precise and efficient CMF detection capacity of the proposed approach even under image distortion including rotation, scaling, additive noise, blurring, brightness, colour reduction and JPEG compression. Furthermore, our method can solve the false match problem and outperform existing ones in terms of precision and false positive rate. The proposed approach may serve as a basis for accurate digital image forensic investigations.

Because of its large differences in writing style, context-independency and high recognition accuracy requirement, free handwritten digital identification is still a very difficult problem. Analyzing the characteristic of handwritten digits, this paper proposes a new handwritten digital identification method based on combining structural features. Given a handwritten digit, a variety of structural features of the digit including end points, bifurcation points, horizontal lines and so on are identified automatically and robustly by a proposed extended structural features identification algorithm and a decision tree based on those structural features are constructed to support automatic recognition of the handwritten digit. Experimental result demonstrates that the proposed method is superior to other general methods in recognition rate and robustness.

In this paper, fall detection using individual wearable devices for older people is considered. To design a low-cost wearable device for reliable fall detection, we present a comprehensive analysis of two representative models. One is a machine learning model composed of a decision tree, random forest, and Support Vector Machine(SVM). The other is a deep learning model relying on a one-dimensional(1D) Convolutional Neural Network(CNN). By considering data segmentation, preprocessing, and feature extraction methods applied to the input data, we also evaluate the considered models' validity. Simulation results verify the efficacy of the deep learning model showing improved overall performance.
Objectives The aim was to develop a method for detecting Sasang constitution based on the ratio of facial landmarks and provide an objective and reliable tool for Sasang constitution classification. Methods Facial images, KS-15 scores, and certainty scores were collected from subjects identified by Korean Medicine Data Center. Facial ratio landmarks were detected, yielding 2279 facial ratio features. Tree-based models were trained to classify Sasang constitution, and Shapley Additive Explanations (SHAP) analysis was employed to identify important facial features. Additionally, Body Mass Index (BMI) and personality questionnaire were incorporated as supplementary information to enhance model performance. Results Using the Tree-based models, the accuracy for classifying Taeeum, Soeum, and Soyang constitutions was 81.90%, 90.49%, and 81.90% respectively. SHAP analysis revealed important facial features, while the inclusion of BMI and personality questionnaire improved model performance. This demonstrates that facial ratio-based Sasang constitution analysis yields effective and accurate classification results. Conclusions Facial ratio-based Sasang constitution analysis provides rapid and objective results compared to traditional methods. This approach holds promise for enhancing personalized medicine in Korean traditional medicine.
Recently, large-scale directories have been developed for LINUX cluster file systems to store and retrieve huge amount of data. One of them, GFS directory, has attracted much attention because it is based on extendible hashing, one of dynamic hashing techniques, to support fast access to files. One distinctive feature of the GFS directory is the flat structure where all the leaf nodes are located at the same level of the tree. Hut one disadvantage of the mode structure is that the height of the mode tree has to be increased to make the tree flat after a byte is inserted to a full tree which cannot accommodate it. Thus, one byte addition makes the height of the whole mode tree grow, and each data block of the new tree needs one more link access than the old one. Another dynamic hashing technique which can be used for directories is linear hashing and a couple of researches have shown that it can get better performance at file access times than extendible hashing. [n this research, we have designed and implemented an extendible hashing directory and a linear hashing directory for large-scale LINUX cluster file systems and have compared performance between them. We have used the semi-flat structure which is known to have better access performance than the flat structure. According to the results of the performance evaluation, the linear hashing directory has shown slightly better performance at file inserts and accesses in most cases, whereas the extendible hashing directory is somewhat better at space utilization.

Traffic speed is an important measure in transportation. It can be employed for various purposes, including traffic congestion detection, travel time estimation, and road design. Consequently, accurate speed prediction is essential in the development of intelligent transportation systems. In this paper, we present an analysis and speed prediction of a certain road section in Busan, South Korea. In previous works, only historical data of the target link are used for prediction. Here, we extract features from real traffic data by considering the neighboring links. After obtaining the candidate features, linear regression, model tree, and k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) are employed for both feature selection and speed prediction. The experiment results show that k-NN outperforms model tree and linear regression for the given dataset. Compared to the other predictors, k-NN significantly reduces the error measures that we use, including mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) and root mean square error (RMSE).
When scenes in the real world are perceived for the purpose of computer/robot vision fields, there are great deals of texture based patterns in them. This paper introduces a texture feature representation on a coordinate system in which many different patterns can be represented with a mathematical model (Gabor function). The representation of texture features of each pattern on the coordinate system results in the high performance/competence of texture pattern classification. A decision tree algorithm is used to classify pattern data represented on the proposed coordinate system. The experimental results for the texture pattern classification show that the proposed method is better than previous researches.
Semantic interpretation of the relationship between noun compound (NC) elements has been a challenging issue due to the lack of contextual information, the unbounded number of combinations, and the absence of a universally accepted system for the categorization. The current models require a huge corpus of data to extract contextual information, which limits their usage in many situations. In this paper, a new semantic relations interpreter for NCs based on novel lightweight binary features is proposed. Some of the binary features used are novel. In addition, the interpreter uses a new feature selection method. By developing these new features and techniques, the proposed method removes the need for any huge corpuses. Implementing this method using a modular and plugin-based framework, and by training it using the largest and the most current fine-grained data set, shows that the accuracy is better than that of previously reported upon methods that utilize large corpuses. This improvement in accuracy and the provision of superior efficiency is achieved not only by improving the old features with such techniques as semantic scattering and sense collocation, but also by using various novel features and classifier max entropy. That the accuracy of the max entropy classifier is higher compared to that of other classifiers, such as a support vector machine, a Na$\ddot{i}$ve Bayes, and a decision tree, is also shown.
