  • In this study, we investigated the electromagnetic properties and microwave absorption characteristics of M-type hexagonal ferrites, which are known as millimeter-wave absorbing materials, according to their calcination temperature. The M-type ferrites synthesized using a molten salt-based sol-gel method exhibited a single-phase M-type crystal structure at calcination temperatures above 850℃. The synthesized particle size increased as well with the calcination temperature. Saturation magnetization increased gradually with increasing calcination temperature, but coercivity reached a maximum at 1050℃ and then rapidly decreased. After preparing a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) composite containing 70 wt% of M-type ferrites, we measured the complex permittivity and permeability in the Q-band (33-50 GHz) and V-band (50-75 GHz) frequency ranges, where ferromagnetic resonance occurred. Strong magnetic loss from ferromagnetic resonance occurred in the 50 GHz band for all composite samples. Based on the measured results, we calculated the reflection loss of the TPU/M-type ferrite composite. By calculating the reflection loss of the M-type ferrite composite, the M-type ferrite calcined at 1250℃ showed excellent electromagnetic wave absorption performance of more than -20 dB at 52 GHz with a thickness of about 0.5 mm.

  • In this study, fused deposition modellig(FDM) 3D printing technology has been applied directly to polyester voil fabric to produce 3D printed lace/voil composite fabrics. A stereolithograpy(STL) file with a lace type 3D modelling under the various thickness were prepared and transformed into a g-code file using a g-code generator. The extrusion conditions for FDM 3D printing were controlled by 50mm/s of nozzle speed, $235^{\circ}C$ of nozzle temperature, $40^{\circ}C$ of heating bed temperature. 3D printed lace/voil composite fabriscs manufactured by 3D printing based on FDM using a thermoplactic polyurethane(TPU) filaments were obtained. To evaluate the mechanical properties and washability of the fabricated 3D printed lace/voil composite fabric, KES-FB system test, washing fastness test and dry cleaning resistance test were conducted. As 3D printing thickness increased, KOSHI, NUMERI, and FUKURAMI of 3D printed lace/voil composite fabric increased. From the results of the primary hand value test, 3D printed lace/voil composite fabrics were confirmed to be applicable to women's summer garments. As a result of the washability and dry cleaning resistance test of the 3D printed lace/voil composite fabrics, all samples were graded 4-5.

  • Process-based model (PBM), based on the interactions between endogenous physiological processes and many environmental factors, can be a powerful tool for estimating crop growth and productivity. Carbon acquisition and biomass accumulation are the main components in PBM, so it has become important to understand and integrate gas exchange process in crop model. This study aimed to assess the applicability of FvCB model (a leaf model of C3 photosynthesis proposed by Farquhar, von C aemmerer, and Berry (1980)) in onion (Allium cepa L.). For parameterization, two early-maturing onion cultivars, 'Singsingball' and 'Thunderball', grown in a temperature gradient plastic film house, were used in measuring leaf net CO2 assimilation rate (A), and then, parameter estimation was carried out for four parameters including Vcmax (maximum rate of carboxylation), Jmax (maximum rate of electron transport), TPU (rate of triose phosphate utilization), and Rd (Dark respiration rate). The gas-exchange model calibrated in this research is expected to be able to explain the photosynthetic responses of onion under various environmental conditions (R2=0.95***).

  • In this study, shape design and material selection were carried out for a two-stage pressure-reducing regulator to compensate for the shortcomings of a one-stage mechanical decompression regulator. The shape of the contact surface of the depressurization unit was considered, material was selected, and the shape was designed to compensate for the pulsation and slow response through the two-stage decompression and to solve the problem of high pressure deviation. In terms of airtightness, the deformation amount of TPU showed a small amount of displacement of up to 15.82%. Considering the fact that it is applicable to various hydrogen fuel supply systems by securing universality by applying electronic solenoids to the second pressure reduction, magnetic materials were selected. The hydrogen embrittlement and corrosion resistance were evaluated to verify the plating process. Surface corrosion did not occur in only the case of Cr plating. The elongation during the corrosion process was compared using a tensile test, and there was a difference within 2%.

  • This study developed and evaluated the motion control of 3D printed fingers applied to smart gloves. Four motions were programmed by assembling the module using the Arduino program: cylindrical grasping, spherical grasping, tip-to-tip pinch gripping, and three-jaw pinch gripping. Cap and re-entrant (RE) strip types were designed to model the finger. Two types of modeling were printed using filaments of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). The prepared samples were evaluated using three types of pens for cylidrical grasping, three types of balls for spherical grasping, and two types of cards for tip-to-tip pinch gripping and three-jaw pinch gripping. The motion control of fingers was connected using five servo motors to the number of each control board. Cylindrical and spherical grasping were moved by controlling the fingers at 180° and 150°, respectively. Pinch gripping was controlled using a tip-to-tip pinch motion controlled by the thumb at 30° and index-middle at 0° besides a three-jaw pinch motion controlled by the thumb-index finger-middle at 30°, 0°, and 0°, respectively. As a result of the functional evaluation, the TPE of 3D-printed fingers was more flexible than those of TPU. RE strip type of 3D-printed fingers was more suitable for the motion control of fingers than the 3D-printed finger.

  • Recently, on-device artificial intelligence (AI) solutions using mobile devices and embedded edge devices have emerged in various fields, such as computer vision, to address network traffic burdens, low-energy operations, and security problems. Although vision transformer deep learning models have outperformed conventional convolutional neural network (CNN) models in computer vision, they require more computations and parameters than CNN models. Thus, they are not directly applicable to embedded edge devices with limited hardware resources. Many researchers have proposed various model compression methods or lightweight architectures for vision transformers; however, there are only a few studies evaluating the effects of model compression techniques of vision transformers on performance. Regarding this problem, this paper presents a performance evaluation of vision transformers on embedded platforms. We investigated the behaviors of three vision transformers: DeiT, LeViT, and MobileViT. Each model performance was evaluated by accuracy and inference time on edge devices using the ImageNet dataset. We assessed the effects of the quantization method applied to the models on latency enhancement and accuracy degradation by profiling the proportion of response time occupied by major operations. In addition, we evaluated the performance of each model on GPU and EdgeTPU-based edge devices. In our experimental results, LeViT showed the best performance in CPU-based edge devices, and DeiT-small showed the highest performance improvement in GPU-based edge devices. In addition, only MobileViT models showed performance improvement on EdgeTPU. Summarizing the analysis results through profiling, the degree of performance improvement of each vision transformer model was highly dependent on the proportion of parts that could be optimized in the target edge device. In summary, to apply vision transformers to on-device AI solutions, either proper operation composition and optimizations specific to target edge devices must be considered.

  • Additive manufacturing (AM) or three-dimensional (3D) printing of metals has been drawing significant attention due to its reliability, usefulness, and low cost with rapid prototyping. Among the various AM technologies, fused deposition modeling (FDM) or fused filament fabrication is receiving much interest because of its simple manufacturing processing, low material waste, and cost-effective equipment. FDM technology uses metal-filled polymer filaments for 3D printing, followed by debinding and sintering to fabricate complex metal parts. An efficient binder is essential for producing polymer filaments and the thermal post-processing of printed objects. This study involved an in-depth investigation of and a fabrication route for a novel multi-component binder system with steel alloy powder (45 vol.%) ranging from filament fabrication and 3D printing to debinding and sintering. The binder system consisted of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) as a binder and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and polylactic acid (PLA) as a carrier. The PVP binder held the metal components tightly by maintaining their stoichiometry, and the TPU and PLA in the ratio of 9:1 provided flexibility, stiffness, and strength to the filament for 3D printing. The efficacy of the binder system was examined by fabricating 3D-printed cubic structures. The results revealed that the thermal debinding and sintering processes effectively removed the binder/carrier from the cubic structures, resulting in isotropic shrinkage of approximately 15.8% in all directions. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) patterns displayed the microstructure behavior, phase transition, and elemental composition of the 3D cubic structure.
