Functional Properties of Squid By-products Fermented by Probiotic Bacteria

  • The effects of probiotic bacteria on the functional properties of squid by-products were investigated during fermentation. Bifidobacterium longum, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus paracasei, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, and Pediococcus acidilactici were used to ferment the squid by-products for 96 hr at $37^{\circ}C$. The numbers of all probiotics increased to $10^7-10^8$ CFU/g after 96 hr fermentation. No substantial pH changes were observed. L. rhamnosus and P. acidilactici showed the highest 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging activities. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis $factor-{\alpha}$ ($TNF-{\alpha}$) secreted from B cells increased after adding the extracts of probiotic-fermented squid by-products. The human NK cells were grown well in the B cell-growing broth cultured with the extracts of squid by-products fermented by L. rhamnosus and P. acidilactici. Trimethylamine (TMA) and dimethylamine (DMA) contents were significantly decreased after probiotic-fermentation. Therefore, L. rhamnosus GG and P. acidilactici can be used for the fermentation of squid by-products and their use would provide benefits in functional food products.

  • In order to reduce the weight of glass in architecture, automobile, bottles, displays, a new technique that can strengthen glass was developed using various method. Generally, the strength achieved of glass-ceramics is higher as is 1.he fracture toughness by the formation of a crystalline phase inside glass. In this study, $70SiO_2-20Na_2O-10CaO-10TiO_2$ glasses were irradiated to strengthen by heterogeneous phase using femto-second laser pulse. Laser pulse irradiation of samples was analyzed by DTA, TMA, XRD, nano-indenter and SEM. Samples irradiated by laser had lower value$(3\~4\times10^{-3}Pa)$ of nano indentation which related with mother glass$(8\times10-3Pa)$ than values. Microcracks were occurred around laser irradiation area when femtosecond laser with the repetition rate of 1kHz was used as the light source to induced heterogeneous phase.

The Properties of Atomic Layer Deposited Al-Doped ZnO Films Using H2O and O3 As Oxidants (H2O, O3 반응기체로 원자층 증착된 Al-doped ZnO 박막의 특성)

  • We have investigated the properties of Al-doped ZnO (AZO) thin films as functions of atomic layer deposition (ALD) oxidants. AZO transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) layer was deposited by ALD with adding trimethylaluminum (TMA) and diethylzinc (DEZn). AZO films were deposited at low temperature with $H_2O$ and $O_3$ as oxidants. Electrical, optical and structural properties of AZO thin films were investigated by 4-point probe, Hall effect measurement, UV-VIS, and AFM. Microstructure and atomic bonding states were investigated by HRXRD and XPS. The resistivity of AZO films grown using $H_2O$ was lower than the films grown using $H_2O$ and $O_3$, by approximately two orders of magnitude. The differences in oxygen vacancy peak intensity of AZO films were correlated to the optical and electrical properties.

On an Approach to Measuring the System Performance by Utilizing the Combined System Readiness Level and Achieved Technical Performance in Weapon Systems Development (무기체계개발에서 시스템 성숙도와 기술적 성능 달성도를 연계한 시스템 성능 측정 방법)

  • The recent studies indicated that the major sources of the failure in carrying out the programs of weapon systems development would be the unsatisfaction of the required key performance and also the use of premature technology. As such, to manage the risk during the weapon systems development, the use of the technical performance measurement (TPM) and the technology maturity assessment (TMA) turned out to be necessary. However, the TPM studied so far seems to cover the assessment of performance at the component level only, and thus is insufficient in considering the system integration effect. On the other hand, the system readiness level (SRL) method has been presented by reflecting the effect on system integration, but the system performance and maturity has not been considered. To overcome this, a measurement method is proposed in the paper by utilizing the combined system readiness level and achieved technical performance at the system level. This system performance measure can be useful in managing the risk in the weapon systems development.

  • Increasingly complex tasks are performed by computers or cellular phone, requiring more and more memory capacity as well as faster and faster processing speeds. This leads to a constant need to develop more highly integrated circuit systems. Therefore, there have been numerous studies by many engineers investigating circuit patterning. In particular, PCB including module/package substrates such as FCB (Flip Chip Board) has been developed toward being low profile, low power and multi-functionalized due to the demands on miniaturization, increasing functional density of the boards and higher performances of the electric devices. Imprint lithography have received significant attention due to an alternative technology for photolithography on such devices. The imprint technique. is one of promising candidates, especially due to the fact that the expected resolution limits are far beyond the requirements of the PCB industry in the near future. For applying imprint lithography to FCB, it is very important to control thermal properties and mechanical properties of dielectric materials. These properties are very dependent on epoxy resin, curing agent, accelerator, filler and curing degree(%) of dielectric materials. In this work, the epoxy composites filled with silica fillers and cured with various accelerators having various curing degree(%) were prepared. The characterization of the thermal and mechanical properties wasperformed by thermal mechanical analysis (TMA), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), rheometer, an universal test machine (UTM).

Electrical, Structural and Optical Characteristic Analysis of Al-doped ZnO Film Deposited by Atomic Layer Deposition (Atomic Layer Deposition으로 증착된 Al-doped ZnO Film의 전기적, 구조적 및 광학적 특성 분석)

  • Al-doped ZnO film on glass substrate is deposited by ALD in low temperature, using 4-step process (DEZ-$H_2O$-TMA-$H_2O$). To find out the optimal film condition for TCO material, we fabricate Al-doped ZnO films by increasing Al doping concentration at $100^{\circ}C$, so that the Al-doped film of 5 at% shows the lowest resistivity ($1.057{\times}10^{-2}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$) and the largest grain size (38.047 nm). Afterwards, the electrical and physical characteristics in Al-doped films of 5 at% are also compared in accordance with increasing deposition temperature. All the films show the optical transmittance over 80% and the film deposited at $250^{\circ}C$ demonstrates the superior resistivity ($1.237{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$).

Change in Electrical Properties of Al2O3/GaN MIS Structures according to the Thickness of Al2O3 Thin Film and Annealing Temperature (산화알루미늄 박막의 두께 및 열처리 온도에 따른 Al2O3/GaN MIS 구조의 전기적 특성 변화)

  • We deposited $Al_2O_3$ thin films on GaN by remote plasma atomic layer deposition (RPALD) technique, trimethylaluminum(TMA) and oxygen were used as precursors, at fixed process condition, the number of cycle were changed. Growth rate per cycle was $1.2\;{\AA}$/cycle. and Growth rate was in proportion to a number of cycle, the GaN MIS capacitors that $Al_2O_3$ thin film were deposited above 12 nm, have excellent electrical properties, a low electrical leakage current density(${\sim}10^{-10}\;A/cm^2$ at 1.5 MV), but below 12 nm, we can see the degradation of the leakage current density. After post deposition annealing, Dielectric constant was estimated by 1 MHz high-frequency C-V method, it was varied with the anealing temperature from 6.9 at no post anealed to 7.6 at $800^{\circ}C$, and we can see a improvement of the leakage current density and breakdown voltage by post deposition anealing below $700^{\circ}C$, but, after anealed at $800^{\circ}C$, we can see the degradation of the leakage current density and breakdown voltage.

A Study of Long Term Recording Reserved Type Material by Using Glass Micro-structure (유리의 미세구조를 이용한 장기보존형 기록재료에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, there are a lot of study to alternate polycarbonate which is being used as storage material in CD, DVD. In this study, we alternated polycarbonate with glass. We observed the change of shape in a surface of the glass which was focused by Nd:YAG Laser. The change of shape and property was studied by thermal mechanical analysis (TMA), UV-Vis spectrometer, AFM and SEM. According to Laser power and quantity of additives, the Bump's size and shape are showed differently. In high energy, the Bump will be transformed into Pit. And also according to CTE, $T_d$ and absorption ratio of glass, difference between Bump and Pit is confirmed. From these investigation, we could control that the minimum size of bump which is more useful shape than pit's is about 1.3 $\mu$m, H 70 nm, and it is near same the spot size.

Effect of High Hydrostatic Pressure Treatment on Urease Activity and Inhibition of Fishy Smell in Mackerel (Scomber japonicus) during Storage

  • In this study, the physicochemical changes related to fishy smell were determined by storing high hydrostatic pressure (HHP)-treated mackerel (Scomber japonicus) meat in a refrigerator for 20 days. The inhibition of crude urease activity from Vibrio parahaemolyticus using HHP treatment was also investigated. The mackerel meat storage experiment demonstrated that production of trimethylamine (TMA) and volatile basic nitrogen (VBN), the main components of fishy smell, was significantly reduced on the 20th day of storage after the HHP treatment compared to the untreated mackerels. The results demonstrated that the increased ammonia nitrogen rates in the 2000, 3000, and 4000 bar, HHP-treated groups decreased by 23.8%, 23.8%, and 31.0%, respectively, compared to the untreated groups. The enzyme activity of crude urease was significantly reduced in the HHP-treated group compared to that in the untreated group. Measurement of the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in mackerel meat during storage indicated that the content of ethanol, 2-butanone, 3-methylbutanal, and trans-2-pentenal, which are known to cause off-flavor due to spoilage, were significantly reduced by HHP treatment. Collectively, our results suggested that HHP treatment would be useful for inhibiting the activity of urease, thereby reducing the fishy smells from fish and shellfish.

Effects of Gamma Irradiation on Inhibition of Urease Activity and Fishy Smell in Mackerel (Scomber japonicus) during Refrigerated Storage

  • In this study, gamma-irradiated mackerel (Scomber japonicus) meat was stored in a refrigerator for 20 days to examine the physicochemical changes related to fishy smell. The effect of gamma irradiation on the inhibition of the activity of crude urease extracted from Vibrio parahaemolyticus was also evaluated. Increased levels of trimethylamine (TMA) and volatile basic nitrogen (VBN) content, which are the main components causing fishy smell, were significantly reduced by day 20 of storage after gamma irradiation, indicating that freshness was maintained during storage. The ammonia nitrogen contents of 3, 7, 10, and 20 kGy gamma-irradiated groups were significantly decreased by 6.5, 15.2, 17.4, and 23.9%, respectively, compared to non-irradiated groups on day 20 of storage. In addition, urease activity decreased in a gamma irradiation intensity-dependent manner. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were measured during the storage of gamma-irradiated mackerel meat. The contents of ethanol, 2-butanone, 3-methylbutanal, and trans-2-pentenal, which are known to cause off-flavors due to spoilage of fish, were significantly reduced by day 20 of storage. Therefore, gamma irradiation can be considered useful for inhibiting urease activity and reducing fishy smell during fish storage.
