  • Delta doping method can separate the threshold voltage control region from the charge transport region in a-Si TFT, whereby the threshold voltage of a TFT could be modified. Threshold voltage could be changed by delta doping, while field effect mobility was estimated to be 80% of that of standard TFT.

  • In various applications of queueing systems, admission control is often employed. It is known that the threshold-type of admission control is optimal in many practical applications despite its simplicity. However, determining the optimal threshold value is hard in general, because analytical expressions for the stationary queue length distributions are not easily available in most queueing systems. In this paper, to quickly determine the optimal threshold value under threshold-type admission control, we develop a concurrent simulation technique, which can save large amount of CPU time required in simulation, compared to the standard simulation procedure.

  • The swallowing threshold of 40 subjects with bilateral missing of molars was tested. The results were as follows : 1) The swallowing threshold of the patients with bilateral missing of molars was higher than that of the normal control subjects. 2) The swallowing threshold of the patients with bilateral missing of molars was higher than that of the full denture wearer. 3) The swallowing threshold of the patients with bilateral missing of molars was different according to the quality and quantity of the test food.

  • We investigate a Leaky Bucket(LB) scheme with a threshold in the data buffer, where leaky rate changes depending on the contents of data buffer. We use the fluid flow model for the analysis of the LB scheme with a threshold. We model the bursty input source as markov modulated fluid flow(MMFF) As performance measures we obtain loss probability and mean delay. We present some numerical results to show the effects of the level of a threshold, the rate of token generation, the size of token pool, and the size the data buffer on the performances of the LB scheme with a threshold.

  • This paper addresses the data classification using the induction of decision trees. A weakness of other techniques of induction of decision trees is that decision trees are too large because they construct decision trees until leaf nodes have a single class. Our study include both overcoming this weakness and constructing decision trees which is small and accurate. First, we construct the decision trees using classification threshold and exception threshold in construction stage. Next, we present two stage pruning method using classification threshold and reduced error pruning in pruning stage. Empirical results show that our method obtain the decision trees which is accurate and small.

An Estimating Function Approach for Threshold-ARCH Models

  • The estimating function method was proposed by Godambe(1985) for parameter estimation under unknown distributions for errors in the models. Threshold Autoregressive Heteroscedastic (Threshold-ARCH) models have been developed by Zakoian(1994) and Li and Li(1996) for explaining the asymmetric properties in the financial time series data. In this paper, we apply the estimating function method to the Threshold-ARCH model and show that the proposed estimators perform better than the MLE under the heavy-tailed distributions.

  • This paper proposes a block-type classification based image binarization for the implementation of the low-power feature extraction algorithm. The proposed method can be implemented with threshold value re-use technique approach when the image divided into $64{\times}64$ macro blocks size and calculating the threshold value for each block type only once. The algorithm is validated based on quantitative results that only a threshold value change rate of up to 9% occurs within the same image/block type. Existing algorithms should compute the threshold value for 64 blocks when the macro block is divided by $64{\times}64$ on the basis of $512{\times}512$ images, but all suggestions can be made only once for best cases where the same block type is printed, and for the remaining 63 blocks, the adaptive threshold calculation can be reduced by only performing a block type classification process. The threshold calculation operation is performed five times when all block types occur, and only the block type separation process can be performed for the remaining 59 blocks, so 93% adaptive threshold calculation operation can be reduced.

  • An algorithm for the threshold decision from the maximum mismatching correlation value in a direct-sequence spread-spectrum system is presented. This algorithm is named the TDMMC(Threshold Decision from the Maximum Mismatching Correlation value). The purpose of the algorithm is to set the decision threshold in the system which will provide large probability of signal detection. Using this algorithm, the proper setting of the threshold for various SNRs is possible. An additional block called the Threshold Block is used to improve the system performance. The result from the computer simmulation has shown that appling the TDMMC to the noncoherent DS/SS-CSK system can achieve performance improvement.

  • The denoising for image restoration based on the Wavelet Packet with absolute average threshold is presented. The Existing method is used standard deviation estimated results in increasing the noise and threshold, and damaging an image quality. In addition that is decreased image restoration PSNR by using the same threshold in spite of changing image because of installing a threshold in proportion of noise size. In contrast, the absolute average threshold with wavelet packet is adapted by changing image to set up threshold by statistic quantity of resolved image and is avoided an extreme impart. The results on the experiment has improved 10% and 5% over than the denoising based on simple wavelet transform and wavelet packet respectively.

Relationship between Red Pepper Intake, Capsaicin Threshold, Nutrient Intake, and Anthropometric Measurements in Young Korean Women (젊은 한국여성에서 붉은고추의 섭취량, 캡사이신 역치, 영양소 섭취량 및 신체계측치간의 관련성)

  • The effects of the amount of red pepper intake per a day on the capsaicin threshold, nutrient intake, and anthropo-metric measurements were investigated in 100 female students of university. Three 24-hour recalls were performed to estimate usual nutrient and red pepper intake of free-living participants. The solutions containing capsaicin at concentration of 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5ppm used for the evaluation of hot-taste detection threshold. Subjects were asked to recognize the burning sensation after tasting l0ml of each test solution in ascending order of capsaicin concentrations. Mean intake of red pepper was 4.6 g/d and the capsaicin threshold was 0.27 ppm. The detection threshold for capsaicin was correlated with the amount of pepper intake per a day. Red pepper intake was correlated with energy, protein, lipid, carbohydrate, Iron, vitamin A, vitamin B$_2$ niacin, and vitamin E intakes. However, it was not correlated with intake of calcium, vitamin B$_1$ or vitamin C. The red pepper intake was negatively correlated with fat mass and waist girth and the capsaicin threshold was also negatively correlated with pulse. In conclusion, red pepper intake was associated with nutrient intake and capsaicin threshold whereas it was negatively correlated with fat mass and waist girth.
