To get a comfortable sleep, the most improtant thing is how well we do thermorgulate during the rest in bed before sleeping as well as during sleep. In other works, the ambient temperature of the sleeping room is very improtant in the organization of human sleep. In recent years, the effect of ambient temperature on human sleep has been increasingly stueided. These studies were primarily concerned with the relation between thermorgulatory processes and sleep, and more precisely with the findings that various thermoregulatory processes are inactivated or severly curtailed during REM sleep in a number of animals, also that panting and shivering in heat and cold, respectively, cease during REM sleep in cats. Haskel et al. noted that although REM sleep latency was increased at thigh and low temperature. REM sleep was depressed to a greater extent by lower than by higher temperatures whereas the reverse was obseved for SWS. It has also been found that a load omposed upon thermoregulatory mechanisms should markedly affect sleep processes, and that conversely, sleep in conditions of thermic stress should interfere with adequate thermorgulatory reactions. Sleep in an animala under thermic stress is, on the whole, both shorter and less deep than under normal thermic conditions.

This study aimed to identify the optimal street tree planting method to improve the summer thermal environment in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The effects of road direction and street tree planting patterns on urban thermal environments using ENVI-met simulations were analyzed. The 68 scenarios were analyzed based on four road directions and 17 planting patterns. The results showed that tree planting had a reducing air temperature, mean radiant temperature, human thermal sensation (PET and UTCI). The most effective planting pattern among all scenarios was low tree height (6m), wide crown width (9m), high leaf area index (3.0), and narrow planting interval (8m). The largest improvement in the thermal environment was the northern sidewalk of the east-west road. Since this study used computer simulations, the difference from real urban spaces should be considered, and further research is needed through field measurement and consideration of more variables.

Thermal environment of city is getting worse due to severe urban heat island caused by climate change and urbanization. The cooling effect of street tree is regarded as a effective way to ameliorate the urban heat environment. The effect is largely made up of shadow formation and transpiration. This study aims to identify how the transpiration affects the discomfort index by analyzing comprehensive impact of the transpiration on the air temperature and relative humidity. The changes in the amount of transpiration, air temperature, and relative humidity were estimated for Seogyo-dong area which has a lot of floating population in Seoul, at 2 p.m. in dry day in July and August. On average, the transpiration of the street tree decreased the temperature 0.3℃ and increased the relative humidity 2.6% in an hour. As a result of these changes in temperature and humidity, the discomfort index rose mostly(0.036 on average). It was always get rise especially on the day when the discomfort index was above 80(0.05 on average). However, compared with the significant change in temperature and humidity, the variation of the discomfort index itself was very slight(up to 0.107). Therefore, the effect of transpiration by the street trees might not be effective in the planning to improve the thermal environment(especially on the day when the discomfort index is high). It is necessary to select the species of trees and planting location considering the cooling effect of shade formation synthetically.
This study aimed to measure the amount of sweating on 12 parts of the upper body using absorption fabric and analyze subjective sensations. The study was conducted with 9 male subjects in climate chamber controled at $30{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$, and $55{\pm}5%$ RH. The result was that sweating amount of the upper back part was significantly more than upper front part. We assumed that forced convection flow cased by exercise decreased the sweating rate in the front. The skin temperature of upper front body rapidly decreased as soon as exercise starts and gradually increased with cessation of exercise. On the other hand, the skin temperature of palm increased with exercise and showed continuous increasing even exercise stopping all the experimental period. This is caused by thermoregulatory responses through vasodilatation on the peripheral area. Subjective sensations, such as thermal sensation, wet sensation, and thermal comfort showed the highest score at the time of exercise stop. This means the subjects felt more hot, wet, and uncomfortable after exercise stopped. Bur after wiping of sweat, subjective sensation scores were recovered rapidly. The present study has provided more detailed information on the upper body sweat distribution than previously available, which can be used in clothing design, thermo-physiological modeling, and thermal manikin design. We also think that results of the present study will play an important role in making the sweat distribution map.
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate heat tolerance using heat tolerance indices, physiological, physical, thermographic, and hematological parameters in Santa Ines and Morada Nova sheep breeds in the Federal District, Brazil. Methods: Twenty-six adult hair sheep, one and a half years old, from two genetic groups (Santa Ines: 12 males and 4 females; Morada Nova: 7 males and 3 females) were used and data (rectal temperature, respiratory rate, heart rate, skin temperatures; hematological parameters) were collected during three consecutive days, twice a day (morning and afternoon), with a total of six repetitions. Also physical parameters (biometric measurements, skin and hair traits) and heat tolerance indices (temperature-humidity index, Iberia and Benezra) were evaluated. The analyses included analyses of variance, correlation, and principal components with a significance level of 5%. Results: The environmental indices, in general, indicate a situation of thermal discomfort for the animals during the afternoon. Breed significantly influenced (p<0.001) physiological and physical characteristics of skin, hair, biometric measurements and Iberia and Benezra heat tolerance indices. Santa Ines animals were bigger and had longer, greater number and darker hair, thicker skin, greater respiratory rate and Benezra index and lower Iberia index compared with Morada Nova breed. Conclusion: Although both breeds can be considered adapted to the environmental conditions of the region, Morada Nova breed is most suitable for farming in the Midwest region. The positive correlation found between the thermographic temperatures and physiological parameters indicates that this technique can be used to evaluate thermal comfort. Also, it has the advantage that animals do not have to be handled, which favors animal welfare.
Recently supply of low energy house is increasing which can enhance energy efficiency and indoor environment comfort. Low energy house have to secure air tightness as well as thermal performance so house become high airtightness and inevitably need heat recovery ventilator to enhance indoor air quality. However, most of current ventilation systems are one-click, controlling the entire space so it causes increasing of heating load and fan power which makes it hard to save energy. Thus, Individual Control system is required which can achieve both enhancing indoor air quality and decreasing heating load and electric fan power. Thereby, in this study, we analyzed the correlation between ventilation and fan power through mock-up experiment and measured ventilation load under individual control system. As a result, under the condition of $24^{\circ}C$ of indoor temperature for 6 month(November to April) in Daejeon, ventilation load by fan speed was $10.9{\sim}19.6kWh/m^2{\cdot}a$ when operated 24 hours and $7.6{\sim}13.7kWh/m^2{\cdot}a$ when operated 12 hours in night time. In addition, it is possible to reduce at most 60% of ventilation load under the individual control system; measured ventilation load was $7.4kWh/m^2{\cdot}a$ when operated 24 hours, and $5.5kWh/m^2{\cdot}$ when operated 12 hours in night time.
Development of temporary housing for victims whose house damaged is required. In this study is to plan temporary house space 'Mobile Energy Shelter House ; MeSH' that can be inhabited for a long time. And measure the indoor Environmental performance. 'Mobile Energy Shelter House : MeSH' was made by reflecting Passive Design, Universal Design. Also, thermal insulation that meets the 'Korea standard insulation' for use low energy. Winter season, measuring temperature, humidity, air velocity and radiation temperature when floor heating that temperature controllers ware installed is used. Confirmed the data for the 8:00pm to 8:00am because evening hours are expected as residents live. Average outdoor temperature was $-11.3^{\circ}C$ and Indoor temperature was from $16.09^{\circ}C$ to $20.63^{\circ}C$. Calculated the TDRi of the window surface for checked condensation risk. TDRi value was 0.185. Furthermore, PMV value was -0.08 to -0.85. It was satisfied to ISO comfort criterion ranged.

This study was done to investigate thermal reponses and to obtain the basic information of thermal comfort by sex and posture under the Ondol heating system. Six healthy males and females were exposed to Ondol(Room Temp.: 25$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$, 50$\pm$10%R.H, Floor Temp.:30$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$) on the of posture such as sitting, lying aside and supine on the floor for 30 minutes after 30 minutes' control phase. During the experiment, rectal temperature, skin temperature of 10 areas, local sweating rate, clothing microclimate, subjective sensation were measured. Rectal temperature gradually decreased and mean skin temperature grad-ually increased both male and female in any posture. There was not significant difference between male and female in rectal temperature and mean skin temperature. There were significant difference among the postures in rectal temperature(p<0.001) and mean skin temperature(p<0.001). In lying aside and supine on the floor, appearances of change and changes in rectal temperature and mean skin temperature were large, changes of weight were small. In sitting on the floor, appearances of change and changes in rectal temperature and mean skin temperature were small, changes of weight were large. The trunk skin tem-perature was higher in female than in male, but the extremity skin temperature was higher in male than in female. In sitting on the floor, foot skin temperature(p<0.001) was higher than any other local skin temperature. In supine on the floor, back skin temperature(p<0.001) was higher than any other local skin temperature.
