Physical Properties of Thin Metal Films -II (-Effect of Oxygen on Thin Metal Film Formation and Physical Properties- (금속박막의 물리적 성질 -II- -금속박막형성과 물성에 미치는 산소의 영향-=)

  • Films of Cr, Cu, and Al were deposited by the evaporation technique at the high vacuum level-high evaporation rate and the low vacuum level-low evaporation rate. We measured sheet resistance and light transmittance, and observed microstructure and diffraction pattern by TEM, and investigated oxygen content in thin film by AES. We discussed the relations among microstructure, sheet resistance, and light transmittance with AES data. We found that the films deposited at the high vacuum level-high evaporation rate have small oxygen content in thin film comparing to the films deposited at the low vacuum level-low vacuum level-low evaporation rate, and that the films having crystalline structure and larger grain size were formed in the case of the high vacuum level-high evaporation rate and they showed lower sheet resistance and lower light transmittance.

Spin Dependent Transport Phenomena for Annealed Co46Al19O35 Granular Thin Films

  • I have overviewed the change in GMR on annealing, in conjunction with the change in microstructure. The Co46Al19O35 granular thin films were annealed at 30$0^{\circ}C$ for various annealing time to change the microstructure. The magnitude of GMR decreases considerably with increasing annealing time, although the size of Co granules estimated from TEM observation show a small change. Parameter fits of magnetization curves and magnetoresistance curves to the Langevin function suggest that large clusters consisting of several small Co granules, which are coupled ferromagnetically, are related with the decrease of GMR on annealing. The temperature dependence of electrical resistivity ($\rho$) shows the relationship of log $\rho$ versus $T^{-1/2}$ for the sample annealed for 10 min., 1 hr. and 6 hrs. However, the sample annealed for 38 hrs. shows the relationship of log $\rho$ versus$ T^{-1/4},$ which represents a significant change in the transport mechanism.

  • In this study, we focused on investigation of governing parameters affected on the fatigue properties in the hyper-eutectoid steel wires used for TBR tires. Steel wires are fabricated under different drawing strain from 3.36 to 3.80. Their diameters are 0.21 mm and 0.185mm, respectively. The fatigue properties was measured by hunter rotating beam tester, specially designed thin-sized steel wires. The results showed that the fatigue properites of steel wire, marked as A-1, were greater than the others, due to the low value of residual stress. In order to elucidate the variations of fatigue properties, the microstructure, surface defect and residual stress were observed and measured by useful analysis technique, such as TEM, 3D profiler and FIB.

  • The injection molded Fe sintered bodies were fabricated using two kinds of nano Fe powders, $Fe-5%vol.ZrO_2$ and $Fe-10vol.%ZrO_2$ powders. The relationship between microstructure and mechanical properties depending on the $ZrO_2$ contents and sintering temperature were characterized by SEM and TEM techniques. In the wear test, the $Fe-0vol%ZrO_2$ sintered bodies showed mainly adhesive wear, but in the Fe-5%vol. $ZrO_2$ and Fe-10vol. % $ZrO_2$ composites the main wear behavior showed abrasive wear mode.

  • The formation temperature for the perovskite lead zirconate titanate [Pb(Zr,Ti)O3, PZT] derived from sol-gel route was lowered by more than $100^{\circ}C$ with the addition of crystallographically suitable seed particles, such as barium titanat e (BT) or PZT. We investigated the effect of seeding on the crystallization of perovskite phase and in the microstructure of the sol-gel derived PZT powder by varying the concentration, size and chemical species of seed particles. The phase transition as a function of temperature was monitored by DTA, XRD, and Raman spectroscopy, and the interface between the seed particle and grown PZT layer was analyzed by SEM and high resolution TEM techniques. It was found that both the heterogeneous and homogeneous nucleation contributes competitively in the formation of perovskite PZT grains.

Microstructural and Magnetic Characterization of Fe Nanosized Powder Synthesized by Pulsed Wire Evaporation

  • We studied the microstructure and magnetic properties of Fe nanosized powder synthesized by the pulsed wire evaporation method. The x-ray diffraction spectrum confirmed that this powder had a pure ${\alpha}$-Fe phase. Scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope measurements indicated that the prepared powder had uniform spherical shape with core-shell structure. The mean powder size was about 35 nm and the thickness of the surface passivation layer was about 5 nm. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy measurement indicated that the surface passivation layer was iron oxide. Magnetic field dependent magnetization measurement at room temperature showed that the maximum magnetization of the prepared powder was 177.1 emu/g at 1 T.

  • The photomachinable glass-ceramics of Ag and CeO2 doped Li203-SiO2 (LAS)glass system was investigated as a function of UV irradiation time. After the expose and the non-exposed samples were heated, they went under crystalline phase with DTA, SEM, TEM and XRD of normal/high temperature. In this work, crystalline phases, microstructure and dielectric properties were studied under the various time of UV irradiation and heat treatment.

  • Sintering and dielectric characteristics of substrates were estimated by mixing rate of alumina and potashborosilicate glass(PBSG) powders. PBSG powders were used 7761(corning code)and alumina powders were used in extra pure rate(99.9%) and had 0.1 ${\mu}$m mean size. After ball milling with organic additives green sheets which were casted by doctor blade machine were sintered at 800$^{\circ}C$ for 1∼3hrs. Microstructure, linear shrinkage and dielectric constant of substrates were surveyed in order to fabricate low-dielectric and low tem-perature sintering substrate.

  • XRD 결과와 TEM 분석으로부터 열처리효과에 따른 Bi-Te 박막의 미세구조 변화를 확인하였다. $Bi_2Te_3$ 상이 $SiO_2$ 와 Bi-Te 박막의 경계면을 따라서 성장하였고 이는 열전성능에 중요한 영향을 미치는 것을 확인하였다.
