  • Antioxidative and antimicrobial activities of essential oils of cassia (Cinnamomum cassia) and dill (Anethum graveolens L.) were investigated. Essential oils used in this study were added to soybean oil and stored at $65^{\circ}C$ for 9 days to examine their antioxidant activities using peroxide value (POV). The results showed that dill essential oil possessed a higher antioxidant activity than cassia essential oil. Strong antimicrobial activity was observed in cassia essential oil, whereas low activity was observed in dill essential oil against the test microorganisms. Heat stability and cell growth inhibitions were investigated with different concentrations of cassia oil. Results showed that cassia oil had thermal stability in a wide range of $70-160^{\circ}C$. Cassia inhibited cell growth of Bacillus cereus KCTC 1022, Micrococcus luteus A TCC 9341 and Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, but not great on Salmonella typhimurium ATCC 14028 at level of 200 ppm. In conclusion, the results indicate that dill essential oil could be a potential candidate for an antioxidative agent, while cassia essential oil could be suitable for use as an antimicrobial agent in the food industry.

  • Due to insufficient available bandwidth resources and the continuously growing demand for cellular communication services, the channel assignment problem has become increasingly important. To trace the optimal assignment, several heuristic strategies have been proposed. So far, most of them focus on the small-scale systems containing no more than 25 cells and they use an anachronistic cost model, which does not satisfy the requirements ity. Solving the small-scale channel assignment problems could not be applied into existing large scale cellular networks' practice. This article proposes a decomposition approach to solve the fixed channel assignment problem (FCAP) for large-scale cellular networks through partitioning the whole cellular network into several smaller sub-networks and then designing a sequential branch-and-bound algorithm that is made to solve the FCAP for them sequentially. The key issue of partition is to minimize the dependences of the sub-networks so that the proposed heuristics for solving smaller problems will suffer fewer constraints in searching for better assignments. The proposed algorithms perform well based on experimental results and they were applied to the Taiwan Cellular Cooperation (TCC) in ChungLi city to find better assignments for its network.

  • The LTCCs (low-temperature co-fired ceramics) are very important for electronic industry to build smaller RF modules and to fulfill the necessity for miniaturization of devices in wireless communication industry. The dielectric materials with sintering temperature $T_{sint}$<$900^{\circ}C$ are required. In this study, we investigated with glass-ceramic composition, which was crystallized with two crystals. The microstructure, crystal phases, thermal and mechanical properties, and dielectric properties of the composites were investigated using FE-SEM, XRD, TG-DTA, 4-point bending strength test and LCR measurement. The starting temperature for densification of a sintered body was at $779{\sim}844^{\circ}C$ and the glass frits were formatted to the crystal phases, $CaAl_2Si_2O_8$(anorthite) and $CaMgSi_O_6$(diopside), at sintering temperature. The sintered bodies exhibited applicable dielectric properties, namely 6-9 for ${\varepsilon}_r$. The results suggest that the glass-ceramic composite would be potentially possible to application of low dielectric L TCC materials.

  • Friction generated from balls and grooves incurs temperature rise in the ballscrew system. Thermal deformation due to the heat degrades positioning accuracy of the feed drive system. To compensate for the thermal error, accurate prediction of the temperature distribution is required first. In this paper, to predict the temperature distribution according to the rotational speed, solid and hollow cylinders are applied for analysis of the ballscrew shaft and nut, respectively. Boundary conditions such as the convective heat transfer coefficient, friction torque, and thermal contact conductance (TCC) between balls and grooves are formulated according to operating and fabrication conditions of the ballscrew. Explicit FDM (finite difference method) is studied for development of a temperature prediction simulator. Its effectiveness is verified through numerical analysis.

  • $BaTiO_3$/epoxy composites have been widely investigated as promising materials for embedded capacitors in printed circuit boards. It is generally known that the dielectric constant (K) of the $BaTiO_3$/epoxy composites increases with improvement of the dispersion of $BaTiO_3$ particles in the epoxy matrix that comes from adding surfactant. The influences of surfactant addition on the dielectric properties of the $BaTiO_3$/epoxy composites are reported in the present study. The dielectric constant of the $BaTiO_3$/epoxy composites is not significantly affected by the surfactant addition. However, the temperature coefficient of capacitance increases and the peel strength decreases as the amount of added surfactant increases. The influences of surfactant addition on the dielectric properties of the neat epoxy are also very similar to those of the $BaTiO_3$/epoxy composites. The residual surfactant in the $BaTiO_3$/epoxy composites affects the temperature coefficient of capacitance and the peel strength of the epoxy matrix, which in turn affects the temperature coefficient of capacitance and the peel strength of the $BaTiO_3$/epoxy composites.

  • Dolomite type $BaSn(BO_3)_2$ ceramics with rhombohedral crystal structure has been synthesized via solid state reaction route. Dielectric properties were measured for the samples sintered at $1050\~1200^{\circ}C$ for 2 h in air. Dielectric constant, loss tangent, and temperature coefficient were increased with sintering temperature due to the evolution of $BaSnO_3$, secondary, phase. Optimum dielectric properties were obtained at the $BaSn(BO_3)_2$ ceramics sintered at $1100^{\circ}C.\;CuO/Bi_2O_3$ was added to $BaSn(BO_3)_2$ ceramics to lower the sintering temperature for LTCC application, then Co and Fe-based coloring agents were added for colorizing the LTCC tape. Typical dielectric properties of $BaSn(BO_3)_2$ ceramics with $5 wt\%\;CuO/Bi_2O_3\;and\;3wt\%$ Co-coloring agent that sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ were $\varepsilon_r=9.89,\;tan{\delta}=0.92\times10^{-3},\;and\;TCC=112ppm/^{\circ}C$. Thus obtained LTCC tape was co-fired with Ag paste for compatibility test and revealed no sign of Ag reaction with the ceramics.

  • Technology is one of the major competitive advantages for small and medium enterprises (SME), especially ones operating in the manufacturing sector. Increasing technological capabilities is the basis for SME's business performance improvement. The main problem of SME's is a limitation in the areas of production facilities, technology, and human resources. Some of these constraints cause a decline in business performance and competitiveness of SME's. In this case analysis of technology components has to be carried out to determine the effect of technology on SME's business performance improvement. This study aims to measure the components of technology and to analyze the influence of each technology component on business performance of rattan processing SME's in South Kalimantan. The assessment is carried out on the technoware, humanware, inforware, and orgaware components using the technometric method (UNESCAP). Business performance is measured through a combination of financial and non-financial aspects deducted from financial and marketing figures. Analysis of the influence of technology components on business performance of SME's is done using the Structural Equation Model (SEM) with Partial Least Square software (PLS). Data is collected through interviews and questionnaires from 21 rattan processing SME's in South Kalimantan that produce rattan furnitures. The results show that the value of the contribution of technology (TCC) to the performance of rattan processing SME's in South Kalimantan is still quite low. Analysis of the results shows a direct influence of technoware and humanware on business performance, while orgaware influences business performance indirectly through humanware.

  • In this study, we developed real-time urban stream discharge forecasting model using short-term rainfall forecasts data simulated by a regional climate model (RCM). The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Climate Forecasting System (CFS) data was used as a boundary condition for the RCM, namely the Global/Regional Integrated Model System(GRIMs)-Regional Model Program (RMP). In addition, we make ensemble (ESB) forecast with different lead time from 1-day to 3-day and its accuracy was validated through temporal correlation coefficient (TCC). The simulated rainfall is compared to observed data, which are automatic weather stations (AWS) data and Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Multisatellite Precipitation Analysis (TMPA 3B43; 3 hourly rainfall with $0.25^{\circ}{\times}0.25^{\circ}$ resolution) data over midland of Korea in July 26-29, 2011. Moreover, we evaluated urban rainfall-runoff relationship using Storm Water Management Model (SWMM). Several statistical measures (e.g., percent error of peak, precent error of volume, and time of peak) are used to validate the rainfall-runoff model's performance. The correlation coefficient (CC) and the Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE) are evaluated. The result shows that the high correlation was lead time (LT) 33-hour, LT 27-hour, and ESB forecasts, and the NSE shows positive values in LT 33-hour, and ESB forecasts. Through this study, it can be expected to utilizing the real-time urban flood alert using short-term weather forecast.

  • Employing statistical design of experiments, the difference in doping behaviors of rare-earth ions and their effects on the dielectric property and microstructure of $BaTiO_3$-MgO-$MnO_2$-($Ba_{0.4}Ca_{0.6}$) $SiO_3-Re_2O_3$ (Re = $Y_2O_3$, $Er_2O_3$) system were investigated. Through the statistical analysis we have found that the amount of $Re_2O_3$ are significantly affecting on the dielectric properties. The $Re_2O_3$ improved the dielectric constant, dielectric loss and R*C constant, so the appropriate contents of $Y_2O_3$ and $Er_2O_3$ were 0.8 ~ 1.2 mol% and 0.8 ~ 1.3 mol%, respectively. The MLCC(mutilayer chip capacitor) with $2.0{\times}1.2{\times}1.2mm$ size and 475 nF was also suited for X7R with the above composition. It showed that the dielectric constant and RC constant were 2,839 and 3,675 ${\Omega}F$, respectively in the sintering condition at $1250^{\circ}C$ in $Po_2$ $10^{-7}$ Mpa.
