SSR을 제어하기 위한 새로운 캐패시터 스위칭방법에 관한 연구 (New capacitor switching schemes to control subsynchronous resonance)

  • Subsynchronous resonance(SSR) causes a torsional shaft torque on the generator. Damages resulting from the uncontrolled SSR have resulted in the breakdown in the shaft and costs for replacement power. This paper is to determine the feasibility of controlling SSR by the fast modulation of series compensation capacitors. The presence of subsynchronous currents in the system was detected by a subsynchronous relay which was modeled by the transient analysis of control systems(TACS) in electromagnetic transients program (EMTP). The capacitor segments were switched by bi-directional thyristor switches. These were modeled into EMTP. The strategy to switch the capacitors were modeled as a closed loop system. The paper proves that effective control of SSR can be obtained only by the detuning of the system and the removal or blocking of subsynchronous energy from the system. (author). refs., figs., tabs.

  • Electric arc furnaces (EAFs) use bulk electrical energy to create heat in metal refining industries. The electric arc process is a main cause of the degradation of the electric power quality such as voltage flicker due to the interaction of the high demand currents of the load with the supply system impedance. The stochastic models have described the aperiodic physical phenomena of EAFs. An alternative approach is to include deterministic chaos in the characterization of the arc currents. In this parer, a chaotic approach to such modeling is described and justified. At the same time, a DLL(Dynamic Link Library) module, which is a FORTRAN interface with TACS (Transient Analysis of Control Systems), is developed to implement the chaotic load model in the Electromagnetic Transients Program (EMTP). The details of the module and the results of tests performed on the module to verify the model and to illustrate its capabilities are presented in this paper.

  • This Paper presents a relay modeling technique to deal with the relay transient characteristics. Existing relay models are based on steady-state concepts. The ninth-order state space mathematical model of the Mho distance relay has been constructed. Computer modeling of a typical distance relay is done within the Transient Analysis of Control System(TACS) subsection of the ElectroMagnetic Transient Program(EMTP).

  • This paper presents the Implementation and performance simulation of HSGS(High Speed Ground Switch)-Adaptive scheme for EHV transmission. EMTP/TACS(Transient Analysis of Control System) functions are combined and used for the implementation and simulation. The simulation results are compared with those for the conventional reclosing scheme and discussed.

  • This paper proposes a static synchronous series compensator based on multi-bridge inverter. The proposed system consists of 6 H-bridge modules per phase, which generate 13 pulses for each half period of power frequency. The dynamic characteristic was analyzed by simulations with EMTP code, assuming that it is inserted in the 154-kV transmission line of one-machine-infinite-bus power system. The feasibility of hardware implementation was verified through experimental works using a scaled model. The proposed system does not require a coupling transformer for voltage injection, and has flexibility in expanding the operation voltage by increasing the number of H-bridge modules.

  • This paper describes the fault reducing effects of the 154 kV transmission tower by auxiliary grounding from the top of the tower to ground. The grounding surge impedance of the auxiliary grounding system is calculated by CDEGS(:Current Distribution Electromagnetic Interference Grounding and Soil Structure Analysis), and the critical lightning back flashover current and arcing horn dynamic characteristics are simulated by EMTP/TACS(:Electromagnetic Transient Program/Transient Analysis of Control Systems). The calculated results of total LFOR(Lightning Flashover Rate) shows that the LFOR can be reduced from 5.2(count/100km. year) to 3.4 by auxiliary grounding on the 154 kV transmission tower with one ground wire shielding system.

Performance Analysis of SSSC with Switching-level Simulation Model and Scaled Hardware Model

  • This paper describes a switching-level simulation model and scaled hardware model for SSSC, which is useful for analyzing the dynamic interaction between the SSC and the power transmission system. A detailed simulation model with EMTP was developed to verity the SSSC operation with control system, and its increasing capability of power transmission through the line for a typical one-machine infinite-bus system. The simulation results of the developed model are compared with the experimental results froma scaled model fo 2KVA rating for evaluation the whole system operation.

  • This paper describes performance analysis techniques for SSSC using computer simulations with EMPT and experiments with a hardware scaled-model. A switching-level simulation model with EMTP was developed for the SSSC connected in series with the transmission line. The increase of transmission capability and dynamic performance was analyzed with the simulation model. The simulation results were reverified by experimental works with a hardware scaled-model. The developed analysis techniques can be used for designing and evaluating actual system of SSSC.
