  • With the development of advanced processing technology, laser processing systems, which require high-quality precision processing, have attracted considerable attention. Although laser equipment is expensive, it enables quick processing and less deformation of materials. This technology is often applied to secondary batteries, which has thus farinvolved the use of argon tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding. However, the welding characteristics of argon TIG welding are not yet good, and a laser is used for welding to address this problem. In this study, lap-joint welding was conducted, and the desired welding characteristics were obtained when the laser power was 1800W and the laser beam travel speed was 1.8 m/min. Lap-joint welding was conducted on Ni-coated SS41. Two cases were compared. No pores were observed in the Ni-coated SS41 lap-joint welding part, and cracks appeared from the lap-joints. Moreover, the pole rod and tap were welded together in a T-joint form to improve the output of the secondary battery. T-joint laser welding showed better welding characteristics than TIG welding.

  • This study is reported the adhesion failure in adhesive bonded composite and specifically for the T-joint structure. Three-dimensional finite element analysis has been performed using a commercial tool and the necessary outcomes are obtained via an eight noded solid element (Solid 185-element) from the library of ANSYS. The structural analysis input has been incurred through ANSYS parametric design language (APDL) code. The normal and shear stress distributions along different layers of the joint structure have been evaluated as the final outcomes. Based on the stress distributions, failure location in the composite joint structure has been identified by using the Tsai-Wu stress failure criterion. It has been found that the failure index is maximum at the interface between flange and web part of the joint (top layer) which indicates the probable location of failure initiation. This kind of failures are considered as adhesion failure and the failure propagation is governed by strain energy release rate (SERR) of fracture mechanics. The different adhesion failure lengths are also considered at the failure location to calculate the SERR values i.e. mode I fracture (opening), mode II fracture (sliding) and mode III fracture (tearing) along the failure front. Also, virtual crack closure technique (VCCT) principle of fracture mechanics steps is used to calculate the above said SERRs. It is found that the mode I SERR is more dominating compared to other two modes of failure for the joint considered. Finally, the influences of various parametric (geometrical and material) effect on SERR of the joint structure are evaluated and discussed in details.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of ankle flexibility, gender, and Q-angle on the ankle joint injury factors during one leg drop landing. For this study, 16 males(age: 20.19±1.78 years, mass: 69.54±10.12 kg, height: 173.22±4.43 cm) and 16 females(age: 21.05±1.53 years, mass: 61.75±6.97 kg, height: 159.34±4.56 cm) in their 20's majoring in physical education using the right foot as their dominant feet were selected as subjects. First, an independent t-test of joint motion and joint moment according to the experience of ankle injury was conducted to determine the effect of physical characteristics on ankle joint injury during one leg drop landing(α = .05). Second, the variable that showed a significant difference through t-test was set as the dependent variable, and the ankle flexibility, gender difference, and Q-angle were designated as independent variables to use Multiple Linear Regression(α =. 05). As a result of this study, it was found that the group that experienced an ankle joint injury was found to use a landing strategy and technique through adduction of the ankle joint and internal rotation of the knee joint, unlike the group without an injury. It was also confirmed that this movement increases the extension moment of the ankle joint and decreases the extension moment of the hip joint. In particular, it was found that the dorsi flexion flexibility of the ankle affects the ankle and knee landing strategy, and the gender difference affects the ankle extension moment. Therefore, it was confirmed that physical characteristics factors affecting ankle joint injuries during one leg drop landing.

  • I-core sandwich panel that has been used more widely is assembled using high power $CO_2$ laser welding. Kim et al. (2013) proposed a circular cone type heat source model for the T-joint laser welding between face plate and core. It can cover the negative defocus which is commonly adopted in T-joint laser welding to provide deeper penetration. In part I, a volumetric heat source model is proposed and it is verified thorough a comparison of melting zone on the cross section with experiment results. The proposed model can be used for heat transfer analysis and thermal elasto-plastic analysis to predict welding deformation that occurs during laser welding. In terms of computational time, since the thermal elasto-plastic analysis using 3D solid elements is quite time consuming, shell element model with multi-layers have been employed instead. However, the conventional layered approach is not appropriate for the application of heat load at T-Joint. This paper, Part II, suggests a new method to arrange different number of layers for face plate and core in order to impose heat load only to the face plate.

  • The use of thick plate in increasing in recent years due to the rapid expansion of chemical plants, nuclear plants, ships and other industrial plants. Welding is the most popular joining techniques employed in manufacturing industrial machineries and structures. Normally, Groove shapes are prepared according to appropriate rules and regulations such as KS, JIS, AWS, LR, DNV and etc. for various thicknesses of plate. However those groove angles tend to be too large. As a result of large groove angle, residual stress, deformation of material and strength reduction is obtained. Therefore, the reliability and safety of structures and machinery tend to be decreasing. Therefore, in this paper, theoretical as well as experimental study are carried out to find optimum groove shapes for T-welded joint of mild steel. The test specimen are made in same condition with simulation model. Welding residual stresses measurement by sectional cutting method. ⅰ) The mechanical difference for change the thickness of plate and groove angle are not appeared. ⅱ) In a mechanical point of view minimum preparation angle(40°) is more suitable than maximum groove angle(60℃). ⅲ) The measurement value and distribution of welding residual stresses are not effected largely by groove angle. It is mechanical restraint that mainly affect welding residual stresses distribution. In mechanical point of view minimum groove angle is more suitable than maximum groove angle. Therefore, it is appropriate to minimize the size of groove shape in strength and safety.

  • Objectives: Prolotherapy is a method that has gained popularity in recent years and has been reported to have positive short-term and long-term clinical results in maxillofacial surgery, especially temporomandibular joint (TMJ) hypermobility. This study aimed to evaluate the changes in the trabecular structure of mandibular condyles in patients who underwent prolotherapy due to TMJ hypermobility using the fractal analysis method. Materials and Methods: Forty-five patients who received dextrose prolotherapy at a concentration of 20% and fifteen control patients were included in the study. All patients had panoramic radiographs just before (T0) and six months after treatment (T1). The patients who received treatment were divided into three groups according to the number of prolotherapy injections. The regions of interest were selected from bone areas close to the articular surfaces of the condyles. The fractal dimension (FD) values were calculated. Results: The main effect of time on the FD value was significant [F (1, 56)=86.176, P<0.001]. This effect was qualified by a significant time×group interaction effect [F (3, 56)=9.023, P<0.001]. The decreases in FD values in all treatment groups between T0 and T1 times were significant (P=0.004). However, changes in FD values were not significant in the control group (P=0.728). Conclusion: Dextrose prolotherapy without the effect of the number of injections caused a decrease in FD values in the mandibular condyles over time.

  • This paper described the ultimate strength and deformation limit of welded T-joints in cold-formed square hollow sections. Previous studies showed that the T-joint has an obvious peak load. with the failure mode of chord-web buckling at a ratio of branch width to chord width ($\beta$) of above 0.8. Similar to a T-joint with chord-flange failure mode, the strength at a certain deformation limit can be regarded as the ultimate strength of a T-joint Based on the experimental results including tests done by Kato and Zhao, the deformation limit was proposed as 3%B for $10.7{\leq}2{\gamma}(B/T){\leq}42.3$ and $0.8{\leq}{\beta}{\leq}1.0$. The strength formula of CIDECT and those of other researchers were also compared with the test results. Finally, the strength formula based on the column buckling was proposed.

  • To study the effect of collar-plate reinforcement on the static strength of tubular T-joints under axial loading, fundamental research work is carried out from both experimental test and finite element (FE) simulation. Through experimental tests on 7 collar-plate reinforced and 7 corresponding un-reinforced tubular T-joints under axial loading, the reinforcing efficiency is investigated. Thereafter, the static strengths of the above 14 models are analyzed by using FE method, and it is found that the numerical results agree reasonably well with the experimental data to prove the accuracy of the presented FE model. Additionally, a parametric study is conducted to analyze the effect of some geometrical parameters, i.e., the brace-to-chord diameter ratio ${\beta}$, the chord diameter-to-chord wall thickness ratio $2{\gamma}$, collar-plate thickness to chord wall thickness ratio ${\tau}_c$, and collar-plate length to brace diameter ratio $l_c/d_1$, on the static strength of a tubular T-joint. The parametric study shows that the static strength can be greatly improved by increasing the collar-plate thickness to chord wall thickness ratio ${\tau}_c$ and the collar-plate length to brace diameter ratio $l_c/d_1$. Based on the numerical results, parametric equations are obtained from curving fitting technique to estimate the static strength of a tubular T-joint with collar-plate reinforcement under axial loading, and the accuracy of these equations is also evaluated from error analysis.
