  • The role of the kidney in initiating hypertension has been much debated. The SA gene is expressed in the kidney and is association with hypertension in man and in experimental animal models. Also, increased plasma concentrations of homocysteine have been found in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and hypertension. The genetic variation of methlene tetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene is related to its enzyme activity and to the plasma homocysteine concentration. In view of the effect of SA and MTHFR as risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, we investigated the Pst I RFLP of the SA gene and C667T mutation of the MTHFR gene in the Korean patients with hypertension. There were no significant differences in the allele and genotype frequencies of these polymorphisms between normotensive and hypertensive subjects. Therefore, our results do not support a possible role of these genes on hypertension in Korean population.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest how the machining technique of constant control of cutting speed can improve precision machining and tool life in high speed machining using a ball end mill. Cutting speed is changed in machining fee form surfaces such as connecting rod die. So, we don't have supreme surface form and tool life on machining. To solve this problem we should settle on optimal cutting speeds in free form surface machining. And, to improve precision machining, We must execute high speed machining methods to output optimum NC data using developed constant control of cutting speed program after modeling by CAD/CAM. In this paper, a comparison was made of the cutting precision and tool life in conventional cutting and those in connecting rod machining applying the program developed.

  • Objectives: The present study aimed to compare the accuracy of removable partial denture (RPD) frameworks fabricated by selective laser sintering (SLS) before and after electropolishing. Methods: A partially edentulous mandibular model was used as the working model. Scanning of the model was performed using a dental scanner. The framework was designed using CAD software. The metal framework was formed using an SLS 3D printer. 3D scans of the two fabricated prototypes produced before and after electropolishing were overlapped with reference data. The fit was calculated based on Root Mean Square (RMS). Fabrication accuracy was verified using the paired t-test to compare the discrepancy before and after electropolishing. Results: The mean (SD) values of RMS before and after electropolishing were 126.6 (34.19) and 75.86 (21.36), respectively. There was a statistically significant difference before and after electropolishing (p<0.05). Conclusions: Metal frameworks made with SLS 3D printers showed clinically acceptable fit after electropolishing.

  • In the era of the forth Industrial Revolution, open source code and open source hardware have gained much attention. In particular, 3D printing technology is expanding into the realms of classical science, technology and our daily lives. Relatedly, in the present study, we demonstrate the manufacture of a nano-LC MALDI spotter robot using 3D printing technology. The parts of the spotter robot were either made using a 3D printer or purchased as 3D printer parts from the 3D printer online market, so that anyone can make the robot without a deep knowledge of engineering or electronics, i.e., DIY (do-it-yourself) product. In the nano-LC MALDI spotter, the nano-LC eluent and MALDI matrix were mixed in a T-union and discharged from the capillary outlet. The eluent and matrix mixture could be spotted onto the movable MALDI plate. The MALDI plate was designed to translate in a two-dimensional space (xy plane), which was enabled by the movements of two stepper motors. In the paper, all computer-aided design (CAD) files for the parts and operation software are provided to help the reader manufacture their own spotter robot.

  • In order to design the aspherical lens, the revisions and the steps of the mathematical method are influenced with a lot of variables. The accuracy of the aspherical lens can be changed by these variables. Besides, to design the aspherical lens, many mathematical functions should be used. To use these mathematical functions is protected by patent administration. Therefore it is very difficult for most of developed countries to use them. This fact has been interrupting not only the development of the technique of a design of the aspherical lens but also the development of the equipments of optics. Because approximate values are used in most of common programs which create the aspherical lens : basically these common programs have variations. Therefore these aspherical lens are not accurate. In the paper, we calculated accurate values by using the refractive index of lens. Based on these data, wee created self-operating design programs. Consequently, our lens is more accurate than the aspherical lens which is created by the common programs influenced with approximate values. The used programs belonging to AutoCAD is Visual LISP.

  • System algorithms estimated by deterministic input may occur the error between predicted and actual output. Especially, actual system can't predict the exact outputs due to uncertainty and tolerance of input parameters. A single output to a set of inputs has a limited value without the variation. Hence, we should consider various scatters caused by the load assessment, material characteristics, stress analysis and manufacturing methods in order to perform the robust design or estimate the reliability of structure. The system design with uncertainty should perform the probabilistic structural optimization with the statistical response and the reliability. This method calculated the probability distributions of the characteristics such as stress by combining stress analysis, response surface methodology and Monte-Carlo Method and got the probabilistic sensitivity. The sensitivity of structural response with respect to inconstant design variables was estimated by fracture probability. Therefore, this paper proposed the probabilistic reliability design method for fracture of uncorved freight end beam and the design criteria by fracture probability.

  • The purpose of this research is to provide useable data for application in American and Korean apparel company. This data was developed by analyzing information of Korean and American body sizes obtained from "Size USA Project" and "Size Korea Project". The Subjects were 6,306 American females and 1,988 Korean females over 18 years old. 30 measurements and 14 computed values were chosen that were considered critical in making garments. And descriptive analysis, percentile analysis and t-test were used as statistical methods for analyzing measurements and computed value between the two countries. The results were as follows. It was determined that American women were larger and bigger than Korean women in all measurements and computed values, except for Shoulder Slope. Based on BMI values, we determined that American women had a distinct tendency towards being overweight. Through the comparison of drop values (i.e. the difference between Hip and Bust Girths or Hip and Waist Girths), ratio values (i.e. waist height divided by height) and Body Mass Index (BMI) between the two countries, we determined that American women's figures were shapelier than Korean women's. American women had higher hip heights and longer leg lengths for their height compared to Korean woman. Furthermore, the back shapes of Korean women were flatter than American women and BMI values indicated American women were relatively more overweight than Korean women.

  • In large construction site, although soil conversion factor is so significant to preliminary design, operation design and calculating the cost of construction that it is important to take reasonable estimation and application, the standard of soil conversion factor for weathered ground doesn't clearly suggested yet. So in this study, at first we obtain the image using DSLR - high resolution camera and Laser scanner in the Haeng-Bok city constructin site, then analysis the ratio of soil and rock using various image processing method(Sobel method, Laplace method, Highpass filter, Hue and Saturation analysis). Mutual comparation with the result of image processing analysis and manual segmentation of 5case image in the cad. As a result, best image processing method was different for each case. In case of high propotion of rock, Laplace was best and in case of high propotion of soil, Highpass was best, and mixed case Laplace was best.

  • A near infrared wide-band high resolution spectrograph, immersion grating infrared spectrometer (IGRINS) has been jointly developed by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute and the University of Texas at Austin. The compact white-pupil design of the instrument optics includes five cryogenic flat mirrors including a slit mirror, an input fold mirror, a dichroic mirror, and H&K camera fold mirrors. In this study, we introduce the optomechanical mount designs of the five cryogenic mirrors. In order to meet the structural stability and thermal requirements of the mount models, we conducted the design work with the aid of 3-dimensional computer modeling and the finite element analysis (FEA) method. We also present the actual fabricated parts and assemblies of the mounts and mirrors as well as their CAD models.
