  • The design process must be planned carefully and executed systematically in order to support designers who are faced with many engineering design problems. In particular, conceptual design stage is very important than other stages such as detailed design or manufacturing stage on designing engineering systems. When designers are faced contradictory situation in task, conceptual design usually requires inventive thinking which depends on their creativity. And in order to develop good concepts, it is necessary to resolve contradictory situations during conceptual design. This paper presents a structure of systematic conceptual design process for designing engineering systems. And we developed the automatic feeding screw device using the proposed design process structure.

  • In order to satisfy the high need for technology valuation, various technology valuation methods have been developed. However the need to develop a new technology valuation method considering the technology characteristics, technology valuation objective, and technology valuation environments has been increasing. So far the technology valuation mehtods have been developed based on technology valuation experts' domain knowledge without applying systematic design methodology. In this paper the process that applies Axiomatic Design principles as a design methodology to the technology valuation methodology design is described. The design consists of technology valuation process design and technology valuation content design. The Axiomatic Design approach introduced in this paper can be used as a systematic technology valuation design tool considering various technology characteristics and technology valuation objectives and also as an evaluation tool of traditional technology methods.

  • The recent control system has been changed into the type of PLC(Programmable Logic Controller) control. Up to now, systematic approach of PLC programming or control logic design is not suggested. In this study, the design process of the control logic is systematized and concrete process in each step is suggested. This systematized approach lead developer to be convenient to implement control system. When some error is occurred in the system, this approach enable the developer to analyze the reason of error rapidly and the system is amended according to systematic information of the analysis. The example of control system implementation following this approach is introduced.

  • Crashworthiness design concept in the helicopter development is still under evolutionary stage. Survivability in the event of a crash was remarkably improved and this fact can be recognized by the analysis results on the AH-64 Apache and UH-60 Black Hawk crash accidents. Those two models are the first ones in which the crashworthiness design concept was applied with a full-scale requirement. Here we need to notice that under-design of the system results in unexpected injuries and deaths while over-design of the crashworthy elements result in unnecessary weight and costs. If landing gear system would be verified to have enough energy absorption capability in the specified vertical velocity interval, then design requirements of the airframe, fuel system and seats could be modified positively. In this paper, the right and systematic crashworthiness design concept is reviewed on the assumption that design requirements of some crashworthy elements could be partially tailored.

  • The variation of systematic bias errors in the wind tunnel testing has been studied. A Design of Experiments(DOE) approach to an experimental study of fuselage drag and stability characteristics of a helicopter configuration was applied. When forces and moments measured in one time block differ significantly from measurements made in another time block under assumption that sample observations can be expected to yield same results within permissible measuring errors. The practical implication of this paper is that the systematic error can not be assumed not to exist. The those error reduction could be achieved through the process of randomization, blocking, and replication of the data points.

  • Objectives: This purpose of this study was to examine the trends in interventional research and analyze the contents and results of intervention through a systematic literature review of the domestic research literature, suggesting the effect of an oral care program on elementary school students. Methods: A total of 262 articles were retrieved initially, and the duplicate articles were then removed, excluded after screening titles, abstracts, and full-text articles. Finally, a total of 16 papers were used in the review. Results: The study included 9 articles with the nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design and 7 with the one-group pretest-posttest design. All articles were of non-randomized studies. The most common index of the interventional effect was dental plaque. Further, oral health behaviors and knowledge, perception, self-efficacy, and DMFT index were common indices. In the quality assessment, in the "blinding of outcome assessment" among six items of ROBANS, 12 studies showed a high risk of bias. Conclusions: In order to develop an interventional oral health care program for elementary school students and evaluate the effectiveness, a strict research design and qualitative improvement of research reports are required, and continuous research should be conducted to develop a systematic protocol.

  • This study was conducted to support for determining an efficient sampling design for forest resources assessments in South Korea with respect to statistical efficiency. For this objective, different systematic sampling designs were simulated and compared based on an artificial forest population that had been built from field sample data and satellite data in Yang-Pyeong County, Korea. Using the k-NN technique, two thematic maps (growing stock and forest cover type per pixel unit) across the test area were generated; field data (n=191) and Landsat ETM+ were used as source data. Four sampling designs (systematic sampling, systematic sampling for post-stratification, systematic cluster sampling, and stratified systematic sampling) were employed as optimum sampling design candidates. In order to compute error variance, the Monte Carlo simulation was used (k=1,000). Then, sampling error and relative efficiency were compared. When the objective of an inventory was to obtain estimations for the entire population, systematic cluster sampling was superior to the other sampling designs. If its objective is to obtain estimations for each sub-population, post-stratification gave a better estimation. In order to successfully perform this procedure, it requires clear definitions of strata of interest per field observation unit for efficient stratification.

  • Systematic theoretical arm experimental studies have been performed to establish the methods of the hull form design, the optimum dimension selection and the resistance estimation for the displacement type super high-speed ships. In this study, theoretical hull form design method of the displacement type super high-speed ships has been developed first by the minimum resistance theory and the sectionally-varying hull form equation. Utilizing the established hull form design method, sixty(60) series hull forms have been prepared according to the systematic variations of the important design variables, and model tests were conducted for the sixty(60) series ship models. Finally, regression analyses have been performed for the results of model tests. It is considered that this is the first systematic and multi-purpose study in the world for the super high-speed ships. The study has been completed very successfully. The prepared computer program is now being actively utilized as an efficient tool for the design of the displacement type super high-speed ships.

  • Purpose: This study aims to examine the demographic similarities and differences in objectives, methodology, and findings of previous studies in the context of gaining financial literacy using videos. This study employs a systematic review design. Research design, data and methodology: Based on the content analysis method, 15 articles were chosen from Scopus and Science Direct during 2015-2020. After formulating the research questions, the paper identification process, screening, eligibility, and quality appraisal are discussed in the methodology. The keywords for the advanced search included "Financial literacy," "Financial Education," and "Video". Results: The results of this study indicate the effectiveness of learning financial literacy using videos. Significant results were obtained when students interacted with the video content distribution. The findings of this study provide an overview and lead to a better understanding of the use of video in financial literacy. Conclusions: This study is important as a guide for educators in future research and practice planning. A systematic review on this topic is the research gap. Video learning was active learning that involved student-centered activities that help students engage with financial literacy. By conducting a systematic review, researchers and readers may also understand how extending an individual's financial literacy may change after financial education.

  • It is the important situation that the fashion industry is faced to enormous changes in the nation and worldwide market. To cope with this situations, it is necessary to clarify that the concept of fashion design and its process. This study was conducted as followings : 1. Fashion design is the process of problem solving including the steps of understanding problem, visualizing the image of a design concept. 2. The systematic and intuitive approach is harmonized to solve the process of fashion design. 3. The step of understanding problem is consist of the analysis of environments, the explanation of problem, the determination of purposes, the definition of problem and the visualizing the image of a design concept. 4. In the step of the visualizing the image of a design concept, the intuitive approaches can be clarifies as the importance of start, the step by step process, the determination of a design concept, the fixations of an image, the image realization through real objects, the diminution a difference between a concept and a visualizing the image and the necessity of exercises.
