  • FMS is two or more computer controlled units interconnected with automated workhandling equipment and supervised by an executive computer having random scheduling capabilities. The complex nature of a FMS, coupled with the need to maximize its performance, means that such a system can be effectly designed only by iterative computer simulation methods. At the operational level, simulation had a reduced role to evaluate the performance of planned FMS under a variety of operating strategies. This is probably due to the fact that few simulation models are able to access the current status data of the system. This study reviews the role of simulation for design/operation of FMS and suggests an interface scheme for incorporating a simulation package with a FMS operational database. This scheme can be used for reducing the performance gap between design and real operation of a FMS.

  • A disk rotor dynamic analysis program called by DR. DAP is developed for disk drive spindle systems to analyze dynamic characteristics in operation and to estimate the effects of excitation sources. It is applicable to design for stabilization and to select parts of disk drive spindle systems. The disk drive spindle system in this program is modeled as a flexible shaft with multiple flexible disks, which is supported by bearings and driven by electric motor, and its complicated coupled vibration characteristics are analyzed by using a substructure synthesis technique with the assumed-modes method. All the coupled modes of interest can be well predicted by the example of a three disk hard disk drive with the three tuning parameters. It is also shown that, with the introduction of the excitation sources associated with the defects of ball bearing systems, the magnetic unbalance of spindle motor, the program can well predict the stability of the system, i.e., the possibility of resonance.

  • Electric railway system driving the electric cars using power from catenary has been secured by performance of stable tracking between pantograph and catenary. The performance of the power collecting of pantograph is the one of the most important skills for high-speed train speed. The first Korea high-speed train(KTX) is 20 cars in one train set. In the meantime, collecting capability of single pantograph collector at one train set was confirmed through evaluation of the performance and the stability test. However, more research is needed to build for a stable collecting capability of coupled Korea's KTX-II High-speed system which is developed in Korea. In this study, actual vehicle test of coupled KTXSanchon was made to analyzing the data presented by the dynamic nature of catenary and pantograph, and the interface characteristics.

  • It is very important to predict and analyze the change of voltage and current distribution of current strap, abnormal voltage distribution of transmission line and resonance phenomenon by coupling between current straps for more stable operation of ICRF system. In this study, to understand those phenomena by coupling, 8-port coupled transmission line model is completed by appling S-parameter measured in the prototype KSTAR ICRF antenna to the model. The determined self-inductance, mutual-inductance and capacitance of antenna straps are shown to be lower than that calculated from 2D approximate model due to finite length of strap. The coupled transmission line model of current strap will be utilized to the operation of ICRF system of KSTAR in the future.

  • The robot performs with combined various functional equipments organically. OPRoS (Open Platform for Robotic Services) is a framework to provide integrated development environment to develop an equipment in the form of the component parts to various institutions and developers and to combine them. To ensure the reliable operation of the robot, the developer should test the component can be coupled reliably with other components developed by other developers. First of all, that the search to find components to be coupled with the component meaningfully is necessary. In this paper, we propose the interoperability evaluation system which can find components to be meaningfully coupled with the component to be evaluated.

  • Recently the design of SoCs(System-on-Chips) in which TCM is embedded for high speed operation increases rapidly. In this paper, a parallel test structure for eDRAM-based TCM embedded in SoCs is proposed. In the presented technique, the MUT (Memory Under Test) is changed to parallel structure and it increases testability of MUT with boundary scan chains. The eDRAM is designed in structure for parallel test so that it can be tested for each modules. Dynamic test can be performed based on input-output data. The proposed techniques are verified their performance by circuits simulation.

  • Recently, utilization of building foundations as ground-coupled heat exchangers has attracted much attention because they reduce the cost and enhance the heat transfer. The objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of energy-slab ground-coupled heat exchanger installed in a commercial building. In order to demonstrate the energy transfer characteristics of the energy-slab, experiments were conducted from October 2010 to September 2011. The 1-year measurement results showed that the mean EWTs of brine returning from the energy-slab were $9.6^{\circ}C$ in heating season and $24.9^{\circ}C$ in cooling season, which were in a range of design target temperatures. In addition, the geothermal heat pump system with the energy-slab showed on-off operation according to the setting temperatures of secondary fluid in water storage tank. The results also showed that the energy-slab extracted heat of 198.6 kW from the ground and injected heat of 318.9 kW to the ground, respectively.

  • Steel-concrete composite box girder bridges are widely used in the construction of highway and railway bridges both domestically and abroad due to their advantages of being light weight and having a large spanning ability and very large torsional rigidity. Composite box girder bridges exhibit the effects of shear lag, restrained torsion, distortion and interface bidirectional slip under various loads during operation. As one of the most commonly used calculation tools in bridge engineering analysis, one-dimensional models offer the advantages of high calculation efficiency and strong stability. Currently, research on the one-dimensional model of composite beams mainly focuses on simulating interface longitudinal slip and the shear lag effect. There are relatively few studies on the one-dimensional model which can consider the effects of restrained torsion, distortion and interface transverse slip. Additionally, there are few studies on vehicle-bridge integrated systems where a one-dimensional model is used as a tool that only considers the calculations of natural frequency, mode and moving load conditions to study the dynamic response of composite beams. Some scholars have established a dynamic analysis model of a coupled composite beam bridge-train system, but where the composite beam is only simulated using a Euler beam or Timoshenko beam. As a result, it is impossible to comprehensively consider multiple complex force effects, such as shear lag, restrained torsion, distortion and interface bidirectional slip of composite beams. In this paper, a 27 DOF vehicle rigid body model is used to simulate train operation. A two-node 26 DOF finite beam element with composed box beams considering the effects of shear lag, restrained torsion, distortion and interface bidirectional slip is proposed. The dynamic analysis model of the coupled composite box girder bridge-train system is constructed based on the wheel-rail contact relationship of vertical close-fitting and lateral linear creeping slip. Furthermore, the accuracy of the dynamic analysis model is verified via the measured dynamic response data of a practical composite box girder bridge. Finally, the dynamic analysis model is applied in order to study the influence of various mechanical effects on the dynamic performance of the vehicle-bridge system.

  • This paper describes the results of simulation of a CANDU operational transient problem (re-startup after short shutdown) using the Coupled Reactor Kinetics(CRKIN) code developed previously with CANDU Reactor Regulating System(RRS) logic. The performance in the simulation is focused on investigating the behaviours of neutron power and regulating devices in accordance with the changes of xenon concentration following the operation of the RRS.

  • For the technology development of LOx/kerosene liquid rocket engine, turbopump-gas generator closed-loop coupled tests using 30tonf main engine components such as turbopump and gas generator except combustion chamber are performed. In the engine system operation environment, simulating combustion chamber by flow control units, the chill-down procedure, startup characteristics, nominal operability and smooth shutdown of turbopump+gas generator closed-loop coupled Test Plant are successfully confirmed. The serviceability of the turbopump and gas generator are evaluated. The feed-back control system for the turbopump rotational speed and gas generator mixture ratio are also verified. The results of closed-loop coupled test will be used as the technology development for the liquid rocket engine.
