  • A fault on the transmission line results in the variation of reactance and parametric uncertainties in the power system dynamics. In this case, we need a robust control to cope with these uncertainties. A sliding mode control, a sort of robust control, is known to be robust to parametric or state-dependent uncertainties if the bounding function of uncertain terms is determined a priori. However, in general, we can not readily determine the bounding function for the complex systems. Hence, in this paper we introduce a fuzzy system which can estimate the bounding function in relatively simple way. By the use of the proposed fuzzy system, determination of bounding function is made easier. We applied the proposed scheme to the stabilization of power system under the sudden fault on the transmission lines. The simulation result verifies the effectiveness of the scheme.

  • In this paper, we propose an electronic attendance management system using the bluetooth function of the beacon and BLE advertising function of the smart phone. In the beacon-only bluetooth attendance confirmation system, it is needed more than one beacons according to the class room sizes. A BLE advertising function based attendance confirmation system can not provide the information about the location of the attendances. In the proposed system, we can identify the location of the instructor using the beacon of the class room, and confirm the attendances by checking the position of the attendances's smart phone. In this system, we can achieves the goals of electronic attendance management system using only one beacon per a class room.

  • For the simulation of piping vibrations in petrochemical plants, forcing functions mainly depend upon the equipment working mechanism and vibration resources in the piping systems. In general, harmonic function is used to simulate rotary equipment. Mechanical driving frequencies, wave functions, and response spectrum are used to simulate reciprocating compressors, surge vibration of long transfer piping, and seismic/wind vibration, respectively. In this study, the general suggestions for forcing functions were reviewed and proposed the forcing function to simulate the spray injection system inside the pipe in which two different fluids are distributed uniformly. To confirm the results, the scheme was applied for a real piping system. The vibration mode of the real system was consistent with the 4th mode (26.725 Hz) obtained by simulation using the forcing function presented in this study.

  • This paper presents a new method to derive energy function based on vector product. Using this method, an energy function to consider transfer conductances and capacitors is derived. Then we recommend a voltage collapse criteria to predict the voltage collapse in power systems by using the energy margin derived by the proposed energy function. This energy function is applied to a 2-bus power system reflecting transfer conductances and capacitors. We show that the energy function derived based on vector product can be applied in order to analyze power system stability and the energy margin can be utilized as a criterion of voltage collapse by simulation for the 2-bus system.

  • The impact of stress on immune function is known to be associated with the interactions among the central nervous system(CNS), neuroendocrine system, and immune system. The main pathways between stress and immune system are wiring of lymphoid organs and neuroendocrine system. Immune system also produces neuropeptides, which modulate immune system. Mediators of psychosocial influences on immune function are found to be peptides released by the pituitry, hormones, md autonomic nervous system. Hypothalamus integrates endocrine, neural and immune systems. Particularly, paraventricular nucleus appears to play a central role in this integration. On the other hand, endocrine system receives feedback from the immune system. The major regulatory pathways which pituitary modulates include the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal-thymic(HPAT) axis, hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal-thymic(HPGT) axis, pineal-hypothalamic-pituitary(PHP) axis. Bidirectional pathways such as feedforward and feedback pathways are suggested in the interaction between stress and immune system. It suggests that psychosocial inputs affect immune function, but also that immunological inputs affect psychosocial function. Thus, prospective studies for elucidating the relationship between stress and immune function should incorporate measures of immune function as well as measures of endocrine, autonomic, and brain activities at the same time.

  • This paper describes an efficient optimization algorithm by calculating sensitivity function for power system stabilization. In power system, the dynamic performance of exciter, governor etc. following a disturbance can be presented by a nonlinear differential equation. Since a nonlinear equation can be linearized for small disturbances, the state equation is expressed by a system matrix with system parameters. The objective function for power system operation will be related to the system parameter and the initial state at the optimal control condition for control or stabilization. The object function sensitivity to the system parameter can be considered to be effective in selecting the optimal parameter of the system.

  • Because protein is a primary element responsible for biological or biochemical roles in living bodies, protein function is the core and basis information for biomedical studies. However, recent advances in bio technologies have created an explosive increase in the amount of published literature; therefore, biomedical researchers have a hard time finding needed protein function information. In this paper, a classification system for biomedical literature providing protein function evidence is proposed. Note that, despite our best efforts, we have been unable to find previous studies on the proposed issue. To classify papers based on protein function evidence, we should consider whether the main claim of a paper is to assert a protein function. We, therefore, propose two novel features - protein and assertion. Our experimental results show a classification performance with 71.89% precision, 90.0% recall, and a 79.94% F-measure. In addition, to verify the usefulness of the proposed classification system, two case study applications are investigated - information retrieval for protein function and automatic summarization for protein function text. It is shown that the proposed classification system can be successfully applied to these applications.

  • This study investigated the relationship between function classification systems and the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI) functional skills in children with cerebral palsy (CP). Two hundred and eleven children with CP participated in this study. The Korean-Gross Motor Function Classification System (K-GMFCS), Korean-Manual Ability Classification System (K-MACS), Korean-Communication Function Classification System (K-CFCS), and self-care, mobility, and social function domains of the Korean-Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (K-PEDI) functional skills were measured by physical therapists or occupational therapists. All of the function classification systems were significantly correlated with PEDI functional skills ($r_s$=-.549 to -.826) (p<.05). Especially, K-GMFCS, K-MACS, and K-CFCS were correlated significantly with mobility, self-care, and social function, respectively. Using stepwise multiple regression analysis, we established that K-GMFCS, K-MACS, and K-CFCS were predictors of self-care skills (74.3%) and mobility skills (79.5%) of the K-PEDI (p<.05). In addition, K-CFCS and K-MACS were predictors of social function (65.9%) of the K-PEDI (p<.05). The information gathered in this study using the levels measured in the function classification systems may be useful to clinicians for estimating the PEDI functional skills in children with CP.

  • The function, which represents the closed curve, is found from the sampling data by S-System in this study. Two methods are proposed. One is the extension of S-System. The data x and y are regarded as input data, and the data z=0 as output data. To avoid the trap into the invalid function, the judgment points (x$\_$j/, y/sug j/) are introduced. They are arranged in the inside and the outside of the closed curve. By introducing this concept, the functions representing closed curve are found by S-System. This method is simple because of a little extension of S-System. It is, however, difficult for the method to find the complex function like a hand-written curve. Then another method is also proposed. It uses the system incorporating the argument function. The closed curve can be expressed by the argument function. The relatively complex function, which represents the closed curve like a hand-written curve, is found by utilizing argument function.

  • This paper suggests the advanced reliability assessment tool for railway signaling Hot-Standby sparing system. Existing reliability assessment for Hot-Standby sparing system controller is done by using single module mean failure rate based on approximated Hot standby sparing system function. Although approximated Hot standby sparing system function can be applied to various Hot standby sparing system, however, it is not able to reflect the exact system structure. In this paper, we suggest the advanced reliability function by identifying changeover-related failure factors and common failure mode which is not considered in existing approximated Hot standby sparing system reliability function via developing Hot standby sparing system model for railway signaling and applying FMECA to this model. Also. we compare reliability assessment results for model system to reliability assessment for existing system.
