  • In this paper, we presents a method to control prosody of the synthetic speech using sampling rate conversion technique. In prosody control, the conventional methods perform overlap and add. So the synthetic speech has a distortion and the voice quality is not satisfied. Using sampling rate conversion technique, we can get high Qualify of the synthetic speech. Also we can control various talking speeds according to speaker's patterns.

A computational approach to the simulation of controlled flows by synthetic jets actuators

  • The paper focuses on the integration of a non-linear one-dimensional model of Synthetic Jet (SJ) actuator in a well-assessed numerical simulation method for turbulent compressible flows. The computational approach is intended to the implementation of a numerical tool suited for flow control simulations with affordable CPU resources. A strong compromise is sought between the use of boundary conditions or zero-dimensional models and the full simulation of the actuator cavity, in view of long-term simulation with multiple synthetic jet actuators. The model is integrated in a multi-domain numerical procedure where the controlled flow field is simulated by a standard CFD method for compressible RANS equations, while flow inside the actuator is reduced to a one-dimensional duct flow with a moving piston. The non-linear matching between the two systems, which ensures conservation of the mass, momentum and energy is explained. The numerical method is successfully tested against three typical test cases: the jet in quiescent air, the SJ in cross flow and the flow control on the NACA0015 airfoil.

The Effects of Border Shutdowns on the Spread of COVID-19

  • Objectives: At the beginning of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, some countries imposed entry bans against Chinese visitors. We sought to identify the effects of border shutdowns on the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak. Methods: We used the synthetic control method to measure the effects of entry bans against Chinese visitors on the cumulative number of confirmed cases using World Health Organization situation reports as the data source. The synthetic control method constructs a synthetic country that did not shut down its borders, but is similar in all other aspects. Results: Six countries that shut down their borders were evaluated. For Australia, the effects of the policy began to appear 4 days after implementation, and the number of COVID-19 cases dropped by 94.4%. The border shutdown policy took around 13.2 days to show positive effects and lowered COVID-19 cases by 91.7% on average by the end of February. Conclusions: The border shutdowns in early February significantly reduced the spread of the virus. Our findings are informative for future planning of public health policies.

  • To develop an aerodynamic performance, two groups of studies have been achieved widely. One is about the geometric design of vehicles and the other is about aerodynamic devices. Geometric design is a credible and stable method. However, it is not flexible and each part is related interactively. Therefore, if one part of geometry is modified, the other part will be required to redesign. On the other hand, the flow control by aerodynamic devices is flexible and modulized method. Even though it needs some energy, a relatively small amount of input makes more advanced aerodynamic performance. Synthetic jet is one of the method in the second group. The device repeats suctions and blowing motions in constant frequency. According to the performance, the adjacent flow to flight surface are served momentum. This mechanism can reduce the aerodynamic loss of boundary layer and separated flow. A synthetic jet actuator has several parameters, which influences the flow control. This study focuses on the parameter effects of synthetic jet - orifice geometry, frequency, jet speed and etc.

  • Curretly, the development of MEMS(Micro Electronic Mechanical System) technology awakes many research's interest for the aerodynamics. This work presents the development of a compact synthetic jet actuator for flow separation control at the flat plate. The formation and evolution of fluidic actuators based on synthetic jet technology are investigated using Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations. Also, 2-Dimensional, unsteady, incompressible Navier-Stokes equation solver with single partitioning method for Multi-Block grid to analyze and a modeled boundary condition in developed fo. the synthetic jet actuator. Both laminar and turbulent jets are investigated. Results show very good agreement with experimental measurements. A jet flow develops, even though no net mass flow is introduced. Pair of counter-rotating vortices are observed near the jet exit as are observed in the experiments.

VSSI-CRL 합성관리도 (A VSSI-CRL Synthetic Control Chart)

  • We propose a VSSI-CRL(Variable Sampling Size and Samplina Interval-Conforming Run length) synthetic control chart in order to improve the statistical characteristics of both the VSSI chart and the CRL synthetic chart. The VSSI-CRL chart utilizes VSSI sampling scheme, but it produces a signal only when the CRI is less than a given limit. An algorithm for calculating the ARL(Average Run length) and ATS(Average Time to Signal) of the VSSI-CRL chart is developed by employing Markov chain method. We present some lemmas for describing the statistical characteristics of the VSSI-CRL chart under in-control state. A procedure for designing the VSSI-CRL chart is proposed based on the lemmas. Extensive comparative studios show that the VSSI-CRL chart is superior to the CRL synthetic chart or the VSSI chart in general, and is comparable to the EWMA chart in ATS performance.

  • 기존의 어레이 합성 기법들은 선형 어레이 소나에 적용되어 신호이득을 증가시키고, 방향의 분해능을 향상시키며 부엽에 대한 주엽의 레벨 비를 높이기 위한 방법으로 연구되어져 왔다. 본 논문에서는 어레이 합성 기법을 비선형 형태의 견인 어레이인 Conformal 어레이에 적용하여 기준 축상에 실제 어레이의 센서들을 사상시킴으로써 선형 어레이와 같이 제어하기 위한 기법을 제안한다. Conformal 어레이를 위해 적용된 기법은 FFT변환을 통해 빔 영역상에서 연속적인 시간에 대해 부신호를 코히어런트하게 처리한다. 합성의 반복횟수, 선형 어레이에서 나타난 방향 탐지 오차, 부엽 증가에 대해 사상 기법에 의한 오차 감소와 같은 결과를 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통해 검증하였다.

Simultaneous Determination of Synthetic Phosphodiesterase-5 Inhibitors in Dietary Supplements by Liquid Chromatography-High Resolution/Mass Spectrometry

  • After success of sildenafil for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, a large number of its analogues have been approved from FDA. Recently, the illegal dietary supplements which include sildenafil, vardenafil, tadalafil, or analogues of these drugs as ingredient have been widely distributed. Therefore, the determination of the residue of synthetic phosphodiesterase- 5 (PDE-5) inhibitors in dietary supplements is highly required due to indiscriminate and unintentional overdose caused nausea, chest pains, fainting and irregular heartbeat. In this paper, we report a rapid and sensitive analytical method for the simultaneous determination of nine phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors by liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry. The present method was found to be accurate and reproducible with 40 ${\mu}g$/g of the limit of quantification for the nine PDE-5 inhibitors. The developed method can be successfully applied to the analysis of the seven illegal dietary supplements.

  • Most robust control schemes for stabilizing the systems with uncertainties require that the systems are satisfied with matching conditions. This paper is proposed to robust control using the time delay estimation for the nonlinear single input systems not satisfying the matching conditions. Synthetic input concept is used to design the control law. The unmatched uncertainties considered in this paper are more general than other studies and they need not a special form or information about their bound. We applied the proposed method to a single pendulum with a motor system.
