  • The analysis of the high-resolution spectra of 31 Magellanic Clouds Cepheid variables enabled the identification of thorium lines. The abundances of thorium were found with spectrum synthesis method. The calculated thorium abundances exhibit correlations with the abundances of other chemical elements and atmospheric parameters of the program stars. These correlations are similar for both Clouds. The correlations of iron abundances of thorium, europium, neodymium, and yttrium relative to the pulsational periods are different in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), namely the correlations are negative for LMC and positive or close to zero for SMC. One of the possible explanations can be the higher activity of nucleosynthesis in SMC with respect to LMC in the recent several hundred million years.

  • For shape invariant recognitin of korean characters iwth noise, an optical wavelet SDF filter is proposed To preserve the features of a reference image and inimize effects of a random noise in the inpt image wavelet transformed images with different dialation parameters are used. And to adapt to divese variations in the combinatorial form, eCP-SDF filter synthesis algorithm is used. The proposed optical wavelet SDF filter is the type of the matched filter so that it can use the structure of 4f optical correlation system. The computer simulation results show that the proposed filter is useful in the noisy input.

  • A new polystyrene-divinylbenzene resin containing 2-(2-thiazolylazo)-5-dimethylamino-phenol (TAM) functional groups has been synthesized and its sorption behavior for nineteen metal ions, including Zr(Ⅳ),Hf(Ⅳ) and U(Ⅵ) has been investigated by batch and column methods. The chelating resin showed high sorption affinity for Zr(Ⅳ) at pH 1-5 and U(Ⅵ) at pH 4. Some parameters affecting the sorption of the metal ions have been detailed. The breakthrough and overall capacities were measured under optimized conditions. The overall capacities of Zr(Ⅳ), Th(Ⅳ) and U(Ⅵ), which showed higher than the other metal ions, were 0.90,0.84 and 0.80 mmol/g, respectively. The elution order of metal ions at pH 4 was evaluated as Zr(Ⅳ) > Th(Ⅳ) > U(Ⅵ) > Cu(Ⅱ) > Hf(Ⅳ) > W(Ⅵ) > Mo(Ⅵ) > In(Ⅲ) > Sn(Ⅳ) > Cr(Ⅲ) > V(Ⅴ) > Fe(Ⅲ). Quantitative recovery of most metal ions except Zr(Ⅳ) was achieved using 2M HNO3. Desorption and recovery of Zr(Ⅳ) was successfully performed with 2 M HClO4 and 2 M HCl.

  • 1,5-Diacetyl-3,7-dinitro-l,3,5,7-tetraazacyclooctane (DADN) is a key intermediate in the preparation of octahydro-1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazocine (HMX), one of the most powerful high-melting explosives. The present investigation focuses on nitrolysis of DADN to HMX by developing a new nitrolysis process involving the use of nitric acid catalyzed by Silica Sulfuric Acid (SSA). In order to optimize the process parameters for synthesis of HMX to obtain higher yield and purity, a study was carried out with variation of some parametric conditions like time, mole ratio of SSA and nitric. This method gave us green and mild conditions for nitration reaction.

  • This paper presents a study on the magnetic behaviour of selected doped SiAlONs with various compositions including Y, Yb, Sm, Gd, and Er. The resulting crystalline phases were confirmed by X-ray diffraction. The magnetic hysteresis data for the samples were collected at room temperature using a vibrating sample magnetometer. The study revealed that doped SiAlONs experience an appreciable level of magnetic hysteresis. Although the parameters corresponding to hysteresis loops in doped SiAlONs are less than those of common ferrites, their magnetic properties of SiAlONs may open up new potential areas of application as the host SiAlON ceramics have excellent structural properties.

  • This paper describes the design of a robust adaptive controller for a nonlinear dynamical system with unknown nonlinearities. These unknown nonlinearities are approximated by multilayered neural networks (MNNs) whose parameters are adjusted on-line, according to some adaptive laws far controlling the output of the nonlinear system, to track a given trajectory. The main contribution of this paper is a method for considering input constraint with a rigorous stability proof. The Lyapunov synthesis approach is used to develop a state-feedback adaptive control algorithm based on the adaptive MNN model. An overall control system guarantees that the tracking error converges at about zero and that all signals involved are uniformly bounded even in the presence of input saturation. Theoretical results are illustrated through a simulation example.

  • Constraining physical (or stellar population) properties - such as stellar mass, star-formation rate, stellar population age, and dust-extinction - of galaxies from observation is crucial in the study of galaxy evolution. This is very challenging especially for high-redshift galaxies, and a widely-used method to estimate physical properties of high-redshift galaxies is to compare their photometric spectral energy distributions (SEDs) to spectral templates from stellar population synthesis models. I will show that the SED-fitting results of high-redshift galaxies are strongly dependent on the assumed forms of star-formation histories. I will also present the results of SED-fitting analysis of observed Lyman-break galaxies which show that parametric models with gradually increasing star-formation histories provide better estimates of physical parameters of high-redshift (z>3) star-forming galaxies than traditionally-used exponentially declining star-formation histories. This result is also consistent with the predictions from the modern galaxy formation models.

  • In this paper, a state observer based direct adaptive fuzzy controller for unknown nonlinear dynamical system is presented. The adaptive parameters of the direct adaptive fuzzy controller can be tuned by using a projection algorithm on-line based on the Lyapunov synthesis approach. A maximum control is used to guarantee the robustness of system. A stability analysis of the overall adaptive scheme is discussed based on the sense of Lyapunov. The inverted pendulum simulation example shows that proposed control algorithm can be used for the tracking problem of nonlinear system.

  • The $TiB_2$ dispersion strengthened copper alloy was attracted as thermal and electrical functional material for the high mechanical strength, high thermal stability and good conductivity of $TiB_2$. In the present study, the focus is on the synthesis of $TiB_2$ dispersed copper alloy by spark plasma sintering process using copper oxide and titanium diboride as raw materials. The mechanical, thermal and electrical properties of sintered bodies were discussed with the sintering parameters, and developed microstructure and phase of sintered bodies.

  • A suitable simple model tested by experiments is required to address complex biological reactions like esterase synthesis by Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Such an approach might be the answer to a proper bioprocessing strategy. In this regard, a logistic model for esterase production from Saccharomyces cerevisiae has been developed, which predicts well the cell mass, the carbon source (glucose) consumption, and the esterase activity. The accuracy of the model has been statistically examined by using the Student's t-test. The parameter sensitivity analysis showed that all five parameters (${\mu}_m$, $K_a$, $X_m$, $Y_{x/s}$, and $Y_{p/x}$) have significant influence on the predicted values of esterase activity.
