A Study on the Teaching Design of the Isoperimetric Problem on a Plane for Mathematically gifted students in the Elementary School - focused on the geometric methods - (초등 영재 교수.학습을 위한 평면에서의 등주문제 내용구성 연구 - 기하적인 방법을 중심으로 -)

  • In this article, we study on the teaching design, focused on the geometric methods, of 2-D isoperimetric problem for the elementary mathematically gifted students. For our teaching design, we discussed the ideals of Zenodorus's polygon proof, Steiner's four-hinge proof, Steiner's mean boundary proof, Steiner's snowball-packing proof, Edler's finite existence proof and Lawlor's dissection proof, and then the ideals achieved were modified with the theoretical backgrounds-the theory of Freudenthal's mathematisation, the method of analysis-synthesis. We expect that this article would contribute to the elementary mathematically gifted students to acquire and to improve spatial sense.

  • This paper discusses the use of projections for the sums of squares in the analyses of variance for two-way nested design data. The model for this data is assumed to only have random effects. Two different sizes of experimental units are required for a given experimental situation, since nesting is assumed to occur both in the treatment structure and in the design structure. So, variance components are coming from the sources of random effects of treatment factors and error terms in different sizes of experimental units. The model for this type of experimental situation is a random effects model with more than one error terms and therefore estimation of variance components are concerned. A projection method is used for the calculation of sums of squares due to random components. Squared distances of projections instead of using the usual reductions in sums of squares that show how to use projections to estimate the variance components associated with the random components in the assumed model. Expectations of quadratic forms are obtained by the Hartley's synthesis as a means of calculation.

  • High-level synthesis generates a structural design that implements the given behavior and satisfies design constraints for area, performance, power consumption, packaging, testing and other criteria. Thus, high-level synthesis generates that register-transfer(RT) level structure from algorithm level description. High-level syntehsis consist of compiling, partitioning, scheduling This paper we study the partitioning process, and analysis the min-cut algorithm and simulated annealing algorithm.

  • A numerical method is proposed to optimize automotive cam profiles. An acceleration curve of a cam follower motion is described by Hermite spline curves. Because of the intrinsic characteristics of the Hermite curve, it is possible to design an acceleration curve with arbitrary shape. Design variables in the optimization problem are location of control points which define the acceleration curve. Objective function includes dynamic performances as well as kinematic properties of a valve train. Similar optimization procedure was also performed using Polydyne cam profile synthesis method. Optimized profiles using the Hermite curve are proved to be superior to those using the Polydyne method.

  • This paper deals with synthesis of 4 bar linkage by using optimum design. To design 4 bar linkage, overlay method is proposed and for optimization, genetic algorithm is applied with objective function. The accuracy of this method will be determined by errors between real value and test value. We will use Chebychev spacing to get 3 precision positions of input angles. The output angles will be determined by the function that the designer wants input and output relations to be. It will be applied to example to show the accuracy of this method. The advantages of using this method are that it is fast to get optimal solution and it is simple to use.

  • An analytical method for robust design of the multi-loop proportional-integral (PI) controller is proposed for various types of multi-delay processes. On the basis of the direct synthesis and generalized IMC-PID approach, the analytical tuning rules of the multi-loop PI controller are firstly derived for achieving the desired closed-loop response, and the structured singular value synthesis is then utilized for the tradeoffs between the robust stability and performance by adjusting only one design parameter (i.e., the closed-loop time constant). To verify the superiority of the proposed method, the simulation studies have been conducted on a wide variety of multivariable processes. The multi-loop PI controller designed by the proposed method shows a fast, well-balanced and robust response with the minimum integral absolute error (IAE) in compared with other renowned methods.

  • A numerical method is proposed to synthesize automotive cam profiles. An arbitrary acceleration profile for the cam follower motion is divided into several segments, each of them is described by a Hermite curve. A cam profile is defined by control point locations and control variables assigned to each segment. Closed form equations are derived for velocity and displacement constraints which should be satisfied for the curve to be a cam profile. Because the method is flexible and provide arbitrary local controllability, any types of cam acceleration profile can be reproduced by the method. The method is expecially useful for the design of roller type OHC valve trains which need precise local control in the cam profile design to avoid under-cutting problems.

  • ${\mu}$-synthesis is applied to design a robust controller for a seeker scan loop system which has model uncertainty and is subject to a external disturbance due to abrupt missile maneuver. The issue of modelling a real-valued parametric uncertainty of a physical seeker scan loop system is discussed. The two-degree-of-frame control structure is employed to obtain better performance. It is shown that ${\mu}$-synthesis provides a superior framework for the robust control design of a seeker scan loop system which exhibits robust performance. The proposed robust control system satisfies design requirements, and especially shows good scanning performances for conical and rosette scan patterns despite parametric uncertainty in real system model.

  • The Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller is the most popular industrial controller and more than 90% process industries use this controller. During the past 50 years, numerous good tuning methods have been proposed for Single Input Single Output Systems. However, design of PI/PID controllers for multivariable processes is a challenge for the researchers. A comparative study of three PID controllers design methods has been carried-out. These methods include the DS (Direct Synthesis) method, IMC (Internal model Control) method and ETF (Effective Transfer Function) method. MIMO PID controllers are designed for a number of 2×2, 3×3 and 4×4 process models with multiple delays. The performance of the three methods has been evaluated through simulation studies in Matlab/Simulink environment. After extensive simulation studies, it is found that the Effective Transfer Function (ETF) Method produces better output responses among two methods. In this work, only decentralized methods of PID controllers have been studied and investigated.
