  • This paper presents a study on the nonlinear behavior of an innovative bridge girder made from concrete-filled and tied tubular steel arch (CFTA) under static loading. Manufacturing of the CFTA girder may have defects which may highly affect the symmetry and performance of the structure. A simple method is proposed by using stiffness extracted from static test data to detect manufacturing defects of the CFTA girder. A three-dimensional finite element model was used in the numerical analysis in order to verify the method. The proposed method was experimentally validated through static tests of the CFTA girder. The application of the proposed method showed that it is effective in identifying invisible manufacturing defects of the CFTA girder, especially for mass production of a standard type in the factory.

  • This paper presents a vehicle detection method that uses convolution matching method based on a simple color information. An input image is expressed as 8 oriented color expression(Red, Green, Blue, White, Black, Cyan, Yellow, Magenta) considering an orientation of a pixel color vector. It makes the image very reliable and strong against changes of illumination condition or environment. This paper divides the vehicle detection into a hypothesis generation step and a hypothesis verification step. In the hypothesis generation step, the vehicle candidate region is found by vertical edge and shadow. In the hypothesis verification step, the convolution matching and the complexity of image edge are used to detect real vehicles. It is proved that the proposed method has the fast and high detection rate on various experiments where the illumination source and environment are changed.

  • 본 논문에서 는 NTGST(noise-tolerant generalized symmetry transform)[1]를 이용하여 복잡배경 영상으로부터 효과적으로 여러 얼굴을 검출할 수 있는 알고리즘을 제안하였다.

  • This study was carried out to simultaneous determination of penicillin G and chloramphenicol in livestock products by HPLC. The results obstained were as follows; 1. Penicillin G and chloramphenicol were analyzed by HPLC on symmetry $C_{18}$ column with acetonitrile-0.1 M phosphate buffer containing 0.0157 M thiosulfate (25 : 75) as mobile phase at UV 325nm and 280nm, respectively. 2. Samples were applied to a SeP-Pak $C_{18}$ cartridge, from which eluted penicillin derivatized with 2 M 1,2,4-triazole containing 0.001 M mercuric chloride. 3. The average recovery rates of penicillin G and chloramphenicol were 81.8% and 80.3%, respectively, and the detection limits were 5 ppb (5$\mu\textrm{g}$/kg: 7.9IU/kg) for penicillin G and chloramphenicol in porcine and bovine muscle.

  • This paper proposes a method of estimating the actuator faults of a hexacopter without using encoders when one or more of six actuators do not operate normally. In the case of the hexacopter, a Pseudo-Inverse matrix is generally used to obtain the rotational speed of the actuators because the matrix that transforms the rotational speed of the actuators into the thrust and torque of the body coordinate system is not a square matrix. However, the method based on the Pseudo-Inverse matrix cannot detect the actuator faults correctly because the Pseudo-Inverse matrix is approximate. In the proposed method, the actuator faults are estimated by modifying the transform matrix using the property that the actuators of the hexacopter are symmetrical. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method when faults occur in one or more of the six actuators.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the usefulness and effectiveness of thermography in horse. Total 21 horses associated with locomotors, wound, and ophthalmic disease were investigated. Thermographically, the wannest area in normal limb was coronary band ($27.26^{\circ}C$), and carpus, metacarpus, fetlock, and pastern area were $26.64^{\circ}C$, $24.42^{\circ}C$, $23.64^{\circ}C$ and $23.06^{\circ}C$, respectively. The temperature($^{\circ}C$) of horses with lameness, swelling, nervous, ataxia was lower(cold spot) than surrounding tissue or symmetry area, and with heat, signs of inflammation was increased(hot spot). These results suggest that the thermography is useful for the early detection of locomotors, wound, and ophthalmic disease in horse and an excellent adjunct to clinical examination.

  • A novel pulse-width-modulated (PWM) function is introduced for precise position measurement in an enclosed signal field. An amplitude modulation was used to light the LEDs for the conventional study. However, the transform properties from the driving signal to the lighting intensities of the LEDs are non-linear, and accurate control of the lighting power was necessary. Therefore, a lighting function independent of these properties is desired. Well-known PWM functions are used to construct the enclosed signal field by simulation, and the precision of the phase detecting system is analyzed. A novel "axial symmetry PWM" function is found to be effective for orthogonal pahse detection.

  • The theory of optimal stack filtering has been used in difference of estimates(DoE) approach to the detection of intensity edges in noisy image. In this approach, stack filters are applied to a noisy image to obtain local estimates of the dilated and eroded versions of the noise-free image. Thresholding the difference between these two estimates produces the estimated edge map. In this paper, the DoE approach is modified by imposing a symmetry condition of the data used to train the two stack filers. Under this condition, the stack filters obtained are duals of each other. Only one filter must therefore be trained;the other is simply its dual. They also produce statistially unbiased estimates. This new technique is called the symmetric Difference of Estimates (SDoE) approach.

  • Congenital hypoplasia of the depressor anguli oris muscle is a rare cause of asymmetrical crying facies in newborns. The clinical manifestations range from mild to severe asymmetry and may persist up to adulthood. In the current case, the patient did not exhibit other congenital anomalies or paralysis of other branches of the facial nerve. This adult patient presented with severe asymmetrical lower lip deformity during full mouth opening since birth. A chromosomal study for the detection of 22q gene deletion yielded negative results. The electromyography findings of the lower lip were insignificant. Depressor labii inferioris muscle resection was not effective, but bidirectional (horizontal and vertical) fascia lata grafting improved the aesthetic appearance of the asymmetrical lower lip. The patient showed improved lower lip symmetry during full mouth opening at 1 year after the surgery. Therefore, the details of this rare case are reported herein.
