In order to determine the mechanical behavior of the curved laminates in practical applications, three right-angled composite brackets with different lay-ups were investigated both experimentally and numerically. In the experimental, quasi-static tests on both unidirectional and multidirectional curved composite brackets were conducted to study the progressive failure and failure modes of the curved laminates. In the numerical modeling, three-dimensional finite element analysis was used to simulate the mechanical behavior of the laminates. Here, a strength-based failure criterion, namely the Ye criterion, was used to predict the delamination failure in the composite curved laminates. The mechanical responses of the laminate subjected to off-axis tensile loading were analyzed, which include the progressive failure, the failure locations, the load-displacement relationships, the load-strain relationships, and the stress distribution around the curved region of the angled bracket. Subsequently, the effects of stacking sequence and thickness on the load carrying capacity and the stiffness of the laminates were discussed in detail. Through the experimental observation and analysis, it was found that the failure mode of all the specimens is delamination, which is initiated abruptly and develops unstably on the symmetric plane, close to the inner surface, and about $29^{\circ}$ along the circumferential direction. It was also found that the stacking sequence and the thickness have significant influences on both the load carrying capacity and the stiffness of the laminates. However, the thickness effect is less than that on the curved aluminum plate.
The objective of this paper is to investigate the statistical properties of Vickers hardness (HV) for friction welded parts in a Ni-based super alloy (Alloy718). In the case of post weld heat treatment (PWHT) parts, hardness tests were repeated for three different applied loads, 100, 200, and 300 g, with a duration time of 10 seconds. The arithmetic means of the Vickers hardness in heat affected zone (HAZ) materials were smaller than those of the base metal (BM) in all of the applied loads. The coefficient of variation (COV) for the BM and HAZ decreased by increasing the applied load. The probability distribution of the Vickers hardness followed the Weibull distribution well. The distribution of the Vickers hardness was not found to be symmetric. The shape parameter and scale parameter increased by increasing the applied load at both the BM and HAZ.

This study aims to measure maximum holding times(MHTs) of symmetric and asymmetric whole body postures, and to compare three representative observational methods including OWAS, RULA, REBA, based on the MHTs. An experiment was conducted for obtaining the MHTs, in which hand position was used as experimental variable, and the MHT and subjective discomfort rating as dependent variables. The hand position was defined by the percentage of the shoulder height(%SH), the percentage of the arm reach(%AR) and rotation angle(R). The results showed that three independent variables of %SH, %AR and R significantly affected on the MHTs at ${\alpha}$=0.01, and that the MHTs were negatively linearly related to the discomfort scores of Borg CR10. It was also revealed that OWAS and REBA were less sensitive to postural stress than RULA. In addition, OWAS and REBA underestimated postural load of given postures compared to RULA. Therefore, it is recommended that among the three observational methods investigated in this study, RULA be used for a more precise evaluation of postural load.

High temperature fatigue crack growth behavior of P92 and STS 316L steel were investigated under four load conditions using CT type specimens. Loading and unloading times for the low wave forms were combinations of 1 sec. and 50 sec., which were two symmetric wave forms and two unsymmetric wave forms. Their behaviors are characterized using ΔK parameter. In STS 316L, Crack growth rate generally increases as frequency decreases. However, sensitivity of the loading rate to crack growth rate was fecund to be far greater than that of the unloading time. It is because as loading time increases, creep occurs at crack tip causing the crack growth rate to increase. However creep does not occur at the crack tip even if the unloading time is increased. In P92 steel, crack growth rate showed same behavior as in STS 316L. But the increase in loading or unloading time made almost no difference in crack growth rate, suggesting that no significant creep occurs in P92 steel even though loading time increases. After conducting high temperature tensile tests and comparing high temperature fatigue crack growth rates under various wave forms, it was proved that P92 steel has not only good high temperature properties but also improved, better high temperature fatigue properties than STS 316L.

In this research, low fidelity air/heat load analysis was conducted for the intake of high speed vehicle. For air/heat load calculations, aerodynamic properties at the surface and the boundary layer edge were estimated using Taylor-Maccoll equation for conical flow, shockwave relation and Prandtl-Meyer expansion equation for internal and external flow. Couette flow assumption and Reynolds analogy were used in order to calculate convective heat transfer coefficient. In order to calculate skin friction coefficient for heat transfer coefficient analysis, Van Driest method II and Reference Enthalpy method were considered. An axis symmetric SCRAMJET model was selected as a reference configuration for verifying the proper implementation of the present method. Comparison of the results using the present method and Computational Fluid Dynamic analysis showed that the present method is valuable for efficiently providing pressure and heat loads for air-intake structure design of the high speed air vehicle.
The along-wind response of a surface-mounted elastic fence under the action of wind was investigated numerically. In the computations, two sets of equations, one for the simulation of the unsteady turbulent flow and the other for the calculation of the dynamic motion of the fence, were solved alternatively. The resulting time-series tip response of the fence as well as the flow fields were analyzed to examine the dynamic behaviors of the two. Results show that the flow is unsteady and is dominated by two frequencies: one relates to the shear layer vortices and the other one is subject to vortex shedding. The resulting unsteady wind load causes the fence to vibrate. The tip deflection of the fence is periodic and is symmetric to an equilibrium position, corresponding to the average load. Although the along-wind aerodynamic effect is not significant, the fluctuating quantities of the tip deflection, velocity and acceleration are enhanced as the fundamental frequency of the fence is near the vortex or shedding frequency of the flow due to the occurrence of resonance. In addition, when the fence is relatively soft, higher mode response can be excited, leading to significant increases of the variations of the tip velocity and acceleration.
The objective of this work is to predict the failure loads, associated maximum transverse displacements, locations and the modes of failure, including the onset of delamination, of thin, flat, square symmetric laminates under the action of uni-axial compression. Two progressive failure analyses, one using Hashin criterion and the other using Tensor polynomial criteria, are used in conjunction with the finite element method. First order shear deformation theory and geometric nonlinearity in the von Karman sense have been employed. Five different types of lay-up sequence are considered for laminates with all edges simply supported. In addition, two boundary conditions, one with all edges fixed and other with mixed boundary conditions for $(+45/-45/0/90)_{2s}$ quasi-isotropic laminate have also been considered to study the effect of boundary restraints on the failure loads and the corresponding modes of failure. A comparison of linear and nonlinear results is also made for $({\pm}45/0/90)_{2s}$ quasi-isotropic laminate. It is observed that the maximum difference between the failure loads predicted by various criteria depend strongly on the laminate lay-ups and the flexural boundary restraints. Laminates with clamped edges are found to be more susceptible to failure due to the transverse shear and delamination, while those with the simply supported edges undergo total collapse at a load slightly higher than the fiber failure load.
Recent years, the response characteristics of large space structures have been studied. Then, for the large space structures with large rise-span ratio, it is clarified that the anti-symmetric mode are representatively amplified. That means the static seismic load for general ramen structure is not suitable for the space structure. In this paper, we propose static seismic loads for space structures and its concept. And for the space structures of beam string structures, execute the time history analysis and quasi static analysis and compare the results of them. From the results, we can prove the validity of static seismic load for space structure.
This paper suggests on-load torque measurement for 3 phase induction motors by input -voltage and current utilizing symmetric coordinate analysis technique on the basis of the induction motor equivalent circuit. In this paper, two cases are treated with, i.e, one is the case where the motors' exciting current and primary leakage impedance voltage drop are compensated automatically, adopting the ideal wattmeter whose current coil impedance and voltage coil impedance are 0 and .inf. respectively, and the other is the case where non-ideal wattmeter is adopted and the compensation above is made by computation. As a result of the case study, following conclusions are obtained. 1) By proper combination of the error propagation law and the limit of power consumption, the desirable overall measurement error of the apparatus can be obtained on the basis of the inherent errors of CT and PT. 2) The measurement error is larger in current simulation circuit than in voltage simulation circuit. 3) Between the two cases, the latter is more advantageous than the former from the viewpoint of feasibility and the measurement error. 4) As the attachment of Ammeter in the current simulation circuit influences the measurement error considerably, its internal impedance should be large considerably. 5) The larger the consumption power of the apparatus is, the easier the feasibility is.
This paper presents a theoretical model for the behavior of partially confined axi-symmetric reinforced concrete members subjected to axial load. The analysis uses the theories of elasticity and plasticity to cover the full range of the concrete behavior. Analysis of the elastic range of the problem involves boundary conditions that are defined along a relatively simple geometry. However, extending the analysis into the plastic range involves difficulties that arise from the irregular geometry of the boundary between the plastic zone and the elastic zone, a boundary which is also changing as the axial load increases. The solution is derived by replacing the discrete steel ties with an equivalent tube of thickness $t_{eq}$ and by analyzing the concrete cylinder, which is uniformly confined by the equivalent tube. The equivalency criterion initiates from a theoretical analysis of the problem in its elastic range where further finite element analysis shows that this criterion is valid also for the plastic range of the cylinder material. According to the proposed model, the efficiency of the lateral reinforcement can be evaluated by the equivalent thickness $t_{eq}$. Comparison with published test results of confined reinforced concrete stress-strain curves shows good agreement between the test and the analytical results.
