  • Three novel species, Philodromus daoxianen n. sp., P. ganxiensis n. sp., and P. longitibiacus n. sp., are described based on the specimens collected from Hunan Province, China. P. daoxianen is similar to P. rufus, but its spermathecae is calabash-shaped, that of the latter spherical. It is also similar to P. kendrabatai, but differs in the form of atrium, distance between two spermathecae and dorsal markings of the abdomen. P. ganxiensis differs from other species of the genus Philodromus in eplgynum by a pair of sword-shaped apophyses, palpal organ with slightly wider distal end of a tibial apophysis, and knife-shaped membranous median apophysis. P. longitibiacus differs from other related species in long and thin palps and legs especially tibia of palps, which is about 4.5 times as long as the cybium and basal portion of embolus strongly sclerotized.

  • This paper examines the structural characteristics of fern lignins (deer fern (Blechnum spicant), sword fern (Polystichum munitum) and maidenhair fern (Adiantum pedatum)) by chemical degradation methods of thioacidolysis and nitrobenzene oxidation as well as 13C NMR. Phloroglucinol-HCI staining indicates that the lignins are specifically accumulated at the sclerenchyma cells beneath the epidermis and vascular bundles. The fern lignins consist of only guaiacyl units. Remarkably, the frequency of the -O-4 linkages is extremely low in fern lignins (only 9 to 11 %). Furthermore, the presence of lignin is ambiguous in maidenhair fern, due to very rare amount of -O-4 linkage. Biphenyl (5-5) and 1,2 bis arylpropane (-1) are main condensed dimeric substructures in fern lignins over 70%. In addition, 13C NMR analysis strongly evidenced the integration of phenolics or their derivatives into the fern lignins.

  • Biofilm formation is inevitable in a bioelectrochemical system in which microorganisms act as a sole biocatalyst. Cathodic biofilm (CBF) works as a double-edged sword in the performance of the air-cathode microbial fuel cells (MFCs). Proton and oxygen crossover through the CBF are limited by the robust structure of extracellular polymeric substances, composition of available constituents and environmental condition from which the biofilm is formed. The MFC performance in terms of power, current and coulombic efficiency is influenced by the nature and origin of CBF. Development of CBF from different ecological environment while keeping the same anode inoculums, contributes additional charge transfer resistance to the total internal resistance, with increase in coulombic efficiency at the expense of power reduction. This study demonstrates that MFC operation conditions need to be optimized on the choice of initial inoculum medium that leads to the biofilm formation on the air cathode.

  • In competitive political contexts, sustaining power is the ultimate goal for political parties. Nominating celebrity politicians can be a double-edged sword for parent brands in attracting votes and influencing voting intention. This study contributes to the moderating role of brand affinity towards celebrity politicians. It considers celebrities' cognitive perceived benefits and voting intention relationship in a multiparty parliamentarian election. A cross-sectional survey with a stratified proportional random sampling technique in fifteen Lebanese districts ensured a representative sample. One thousand two hundred sixty-nine responses were found eligible for analysis. Findings indicate that brand affinity positively moderates the negative relationship between perceived benefits and voting intention. This study offers a new understanding of celebrity politicians' implementation strategy and campaign management and considers the contribution of the affective intelligence theory. It provides implications, limitations, and promising directions for future research on celebrity politicians.

  • Whole-genome doubling (WGD), characterized by the duplication of an entire set of chromosomes, is commonly observed in various tumors, occurring in approximately 30-40% of patients with different cancer types. The effect of WGD on tumorigenesis varies depending on the context, either promoting or suppressing tumor progression. Recent advances in genomic technologies and large-scale clinical investigations have led to the identification of the complex patterns of genomic alterations underlying WGD and their functional consequences on tumorigenesis progression and prognosis. Our comprehensive review aims to summarize the causes and effects of WGD on tumorigenesis, highlighting its dualistic influence on cancer cells. We then introduce recent findings on WGD-associated molecular signatures and genetic aberrations and a novel subtype related to WGD. Finally, we discuss the clinical implications of WGD in cancer subtype classification and future therapeutic interventions. Overall, a comprehensive understanding of WGD in cancer biology is crucial to unraveling its complex role in tumorigenesis and identifying novel therapeutic strategies.

  • Recent advancements in various technologies have shed light on the critical role of metabolism in immune cells, paving the way for innovative disease treatment strategies through immunometabolism modulation. This review emphasizes the glucose metabolism of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs), an emerging pivotal immunosuppressive factor especially within the tumor microenvironment. MDSCs, an immature and heterogeneous myeloid cell population, act as a double-edged sword by exacerbating tumors or mitigating inflammatory diseases through their immune-suppressive functions. Numerous recent studies have centered on glycolysis of MDSC, investigating the regulation of altered glycolytic pathways to manage diseases. However, the specific changes in MDSC glycolysis and their exact functions continue to be areas of ongoing discussion yet. In this paper, we review a range of current findings, including the latest research on the alteration of glycolysis in MDSCs, the consequential functional alterations in these cells, and the outcomes of attempts to modulate MDSC functions by regulating glycolysis. Ultimately, we will provide insights into whether these research efforts could be translated into clinical applications.

  • Jeollabuk-do is bounded by the sea, and Mahan Baekje culture have been established around a wide plain. Also, in southeastern, it was closed by Gaya kingdom where iron culture was prosperous at that time, a variety of the handles of swords with round pommel is excavated at present. The handles of swords with round pommel is the best amount of excavated objects among the swords with round pommel and producted object for the time. It supposes them to become the foundation of making the decorated swords with round pommel. But, the handles of swords with round pommel that don't have a pattern in handle is indifferent to study because the production method is simple in spite of that the value of archaeological data is sufficient. Therefore, in this study, it examined changed production techniques with the change of times concerning the handles of swords with round pommel of Mahan Baekje Gaya period(before 6C) excavated from Jeollabukdo through using X-rays in order to clarify a variety of production techniques of the handles of swords with round pommel correctly in accordance with a period of production and excavated place. As a result, identified production techniques using X-rays of the handles of swords with round pommel excavated around remains of Mahan Baekje Gaya period shows that production progress improved in order of all-in-one shape, hammer welding shape of the handle of round pommel, and two in body formation in accordance with age. Especially, in two in body shape, it products the handle of round pommel separately, after that it welds the handle of swords and then links the sword blade like a riveting or bottleneck and so on. Despite of improved hammer welding technique, the reason why it didn't utilize is it regards as inlay or gilt will be damaged. And it is judged by using riveting or bottleneck. Also, it appears to techniques of metal craft such as decoration of the handle, decoration of point of sword, inlay, and silver-plating in the period of appearing two in body shape. As clarifying correctly, it provides fundamental database of scientific research about a study of production techniques of handle of swords with round pommel.
