  • Development of IT and electronics industries has make our life more convenient, yet at the cost of radio communication noise, malfunctioning of electronic appliance and risks against human health all resulting from EMI. Many states are tightening their EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference) regulations around the world and the EMI regulatory measures are likely to increase in terms of targets and types. Against this backdrop, this paper aims to introduce fundamental and adequate EMI countermeasures encompassing product production cycle from design to production stage.

  • In this abstract a novel control scheme of voltage-source PWM rectifiers using only dc-side sensors is proposed. The phase currents are reconstructed from switching states of the rectifier and the dc output current. For effective current control the currents are estimated by a predictive state observer. Also both the phase angle and the magnitude of th source voltage are estimated by phase estimator and magnitude estimator respectively. The validity of the proposed ac sensorless technique is verified by experimental results.

  • Excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) is a phototautomerization occurring in the excited states of the molecules possessing a cyclic intramolecular or solvent-bridged hydrogen bond. Recently, we have developed novel ESIPT chromophores, molecules, dendrimers and polymers which show very high fluorescence quantum efficiency combined with the characteristic features of optical switching, fluorescence patterining, lasing, and electroluminescence. Broad overview of these topics will be given in this talk.

  • It has been known since the mid 1960s that Ag can be photodissolved in chalcogenide glasses to form materials with interesting technological properties. In the 40 years since, this effect has been used in diverse applications such as the fabrication of relief images in optical elements, micro photolithographic schemes, and for direct imaging by photoinduced Ag surface deposition. ReRAM, also known as conductive bridging RAM (CBRAM), is a resistive switching memory based on non-volatile formation and dissolution of a conductive filament in a solid electrolyte. Especially, Ag-doped chalcogenide glasses and thin films have become attractive materials for fundamental research of their structure, properties, and preparation. Ag-doped chalcogenide glasses have been used in the formation of solid electrolyte which is the active medium in ReRAM devices. In this paper, we investigated the nature of thin films formed by the photo-dissolution of Ag into Ge-Se glasses for use in ReRAM devices. These devices rely on ion transport in the film so produced to create electrically programmable resistance states [1-3]. We have demonstrated functionalities of Ag doped chalcogenide glasses based on their capabilities as solid electrolytes. Formation of such amorphous systems by the introduction of Ag+ ions photo-induced diffusion in thin chalcogenide films is considered. The influence of Ag+ ions is regarded in terms of diffusion kinetics and Ag saturation is related to the composition of the hosting material. Saturated Ag+ ions have been used in the formation of conductive filaments at the solid electrolyte which is the active medium in ReRAM devices. Following fabrication, the cell displays a metal-insulator-metal structure. We measured the I-V characteristics of a cell, similar results were obtained with different via sizes, due to the filamentary nature of resistance switching in ReRAM cell. As the voltage is swept from 0 V to a positive top electrode voltage, the device switches from a high resistive to a low resistive, or set. The low conducting, or reset, state can be restored by means of a negative voltage sweep where the switch-off of the device usually occurs.

  • In this paper a novel design of equilateral-triangular microstrip antenna using PIN diode fur switching the resonant frequency is presented and experimentally studied. The proposed antenna has changed the resonant frequency by length of spur-lines on the patch, and PIN diodes are utilized to switch the spur-line on and off. The shape of the spur-line is changed according to the on and off states of PIN diode and the equilateral triangular microstrip antenna has different resonant frequencies in accordance with them. The resonant frequency is 1.22 GHz with off states since the surface currents flow the periphery of T shape spur-lines, while the resonant frequency is 1.82 GHz with on states since the surface currents are little effect with the conventional equilateral triangular microstrip antenna. The radiation pattern of the proposed antenna has a good linear polarization with the cross polarization of -20 dB both with on and off states.

  • This paper presents a control scheme with a focus on the combination of phase disposition pulse width modulation (PDPWM) and DC capacitor voltage control for a chopper-cell based modular multilevel converter (MMC) for the purpose of eliminating the time-consuming voltage sorting algorithm and complex voltage balancing regulators. In this paper, the convergence of the DC capacitor voltages within one arm is realized by charging the minimum voltage module and discharging the maximum voltage module during each switching cycle with the assistances of MAX/MIN capacitor voltage detection and PDPWM signals exchanging. The process of voltage balancing control introduces no extra switching commutation, which is helpful in reducing power loss and improving system efficiency. Additionally, the proposed control scheme also possess the merit of a simple executing procedure in application. Simulation and experimental results indicates that the MMC circuit together with the proposed method functions very well in balancing the DC capacitor voltage and improving system efficiency even under transient states.

  • Generally, the average phase current is sampled at the midpoint of a PWM signal for the vector control of an AC motor. The three-phase current can also be reconstructed from a DC-link shunt resistor by sampling the shunt voltage during the active vectors of the SVPWM. However, the reconstructed current is different from the average current because of the deviation of the sampling point from the midpoint of the PWM signal. This paper proposes an algorithm to estimate the average current from the reconstructed current in a single-shunt inverter. The proposed method is derived from the phase current slopes based on switching states and corresponding switching time. In addition, the proposed method is generalized for all the six sectors of the space vector hexagon. The validity of the proposed algorithm is verified with simulations and experiments.

  • An ATM switching system may be designed so that communications between processors of its control part can be performed via its switching network rather than a separate inter-processor communications (IPC) network. In such a system, there should be interfaces to convent IPC traffic from message format to cell format and vice versa, that is, mechanisms to perform the SAR (Segmentation And Reassembly) sublayer functions. In this paper, we concern the cell reassembly mechanism among them, mainly focussed on buffer management schemes. We consider a few alternatives to implement cell reassembly function block, namely, separated buffering, reserved buffering and shared buffering in this paper. In case of separated and reserved buffering, we employ a continuous time Markov chain for the performance evaluation of cell reassembly mechanism, judicially defining the states of the mechanism. Performance measures such as measage loss probability, mean number of message queued in buffer and average reassembly delay are obtianed in closed forms. In case of shared buffering, we compare the alternatives for implementing cell reassembly function block using simulation because it is almost impossible to analyze the mechanism of shared buffering by analytical modeling. Some illustrations are given for the performance analysis of the alternatives to implement cell reassembly function block.

  • This study proposes a finite-state model predictive controller to regulate the load current and balance the DC-link capacitor voltages of a four-leg neutral-point-clamped converter. The discrete-time model of the converter, DC-link, inductive filter, and load is used to predict the future behavior of the load currents and the DC-link capacitor voltages for all possible switching states. The switching state that minimizes the cost function is selected and directly applied to the converter. The cost function is defined to minimize the error between the predicted load currents and their references, as well as to balance the DC-link capacitor voltages. Moreover, the current regulation performance is improved by using a two-step prediction horizon. The feasibility of the proposed predictive control scheme for different references and loads is verified through real-time implementation on the basis of dSPACEDS1103.
