In the buck-boost DC-DC chopper which is used at a certain situation such as in factories where loads often change a lot, the switches in the device make big energy loss in operating at Buck-Boost Mode due to hard switching and are affected by lots of stresses which decrease the efficiency rate of the converter. In order to improve this problem, to decrease the loss of snubber and switching, it has been investigated that zero voltage switching mode and zero current switching mode which make the operation of switches with soft switching. For the more sophisticated and advanced device, this paper is presented the Partial Resonant Soft Switching Mode Power Converter which is adapted the power converter having the partial resonant soft switching mode, that makes switches operate when the resonant current or voltage becomes zero by making the resonant circuit partially at turning on and off of the switches with suitable layout of the resonant elements and switch elements in the converter. Also, this paper includes the analysis and simulation of the Partial Resonant type Buck-Boost Chopper.

In this paper, a new method for suppressing microwelding on the RF MEMS (Radio Frequency Microelectromechanical System) direct contact switches is introduced. Two kinds of refractory metals, tungsten and molybdenum were coated onto the contact point of the switches and the effect of the coating was examined. The changes in insertion loss and isolation at the switch were measured by using network analyzer and power loss was evaluated by power measurement. The results revealed that while tungsten and molybdenum showed higher contact resistance than gold in low input power range, they enhanced the power handling capability and reliability of the switches in high input power region.
This paper presents a soft switching DC/DC converter for high voltage application. The interleaved pulse-width modulation (PWM) scheme is used to reduce the ripple current at the output capacitor and the size of output inductors. Two converter cells are connected in series at the high voltage side to reduce the voltage stresses of the active switches. Thus, the voltage stress of each switch is clamped at one half of the input voltage. On the other hand, the output sides of two converter cells are connected in parallel to achieve the load current sharing and reduce the current stress of output inductors. In each converter cell, a half-bridge converter with the asymmetrical PWM scheme is adopted to control power switches and to regulate the output voltage at a desired voltage level. Based on the resonant behavior by the output capacitance of power switches and the transformer leakage inductance, active switches can be turned on at zero voltage switching (ZVS) during the transition interval. Thus, the switching losses of power MOSFETs are reduced. The current doubler rectifier is used at the secondary side to partially cancel ripple current. Therefore, the root-mean-square (rms) current at output capacitor is reduced. The proposed converter can be applied for high input voltage applications such as a three-phase 380V utility system. Finally, experiments based on a laboratory prototype with 960W (24V/40A) rated power are provided to demonstrate the performance of proposed converter.

High-voltage isolating switches play a paramount role in ensuring the safety of power supply systems. However, their exposure to outdoor environmental conditions may cause serious physical defects, which may result in great risk to power supply systems and society. Image processing-based methods have been used for anomaly detection. However, their accuracy is affected by numerous uncertainties due to manually extracted features, which makes the anomaly detection of isolating switches still challenging. In this paper, a vision-based anomaly detection method for isolating switches, which uses the rotational angle of the switch system for more accurate and direct anomaly detection with the help of deep learning (DL) and image processing methods (Single Shot Multibox Detector (SSD), improved frame differencing method, and Hough transform), is proposed. The SSD is a deep learning method for object classification and localization. In addition, an improved frame differencing method is introduced for better feature extraction and a hough transform method is adopted for rotational angle calculation. A number of experiments are conducted for anomaly detection of single and multiple switches using video frames. The results of the experiments demonstrate that the SSD outperforms the You-Only-Look-Once network. The effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method have been proven under various conditions, such as different illumination and camera locations using 96 videos from the experiments.

This paper reports a novel tunable bandpass filter using two-state switched inductor with direct-contact MEMS switches for wireless LAN applications. In our filter configuration, the switched inductor is implemented to obtain more stable and much larger frequency tuning ratio compared with variable capacitor-based tunable filter. The proposed tunable filter was fabricated using a micromachining technology and electrical performances of the fabricated filter were measured. The filter consists of spiral inductors, MIM capacitors and direct-contact type MEMS switches, and its frequency tunability is achieved by changing the inductance that is induced by ON/OFF actuations of the MEMS switches. The actuation voltage of the MEMS switches was measured of 58 V, and they showed the insertion loss of 0.1 dB and isolation of 26.3 dB at 2 GHz, respectively. The measured center frequencies of the fabricated filter were 2.55 GHz and 5.1 GHz, respectively. The passband insertion loss and 3-dB bandwidth were 4.2 dB and 22.5 % at 2.55 GHz, and 5.2 dB and 23.5 % at 5.1 GHz, respectively.
Failures in ATM networks can occur at virtual path (VP) links, virtual path switches, and virtual channel (VC) switches. Restoration schemes have been proposed for VP link and VP switch failures, however, none for VC switch failures. In general, VC switches are used for edge nodes in protection domains. Since even only one VC switch failure can cause a critical problem, new restoration schemes for VC switch failures are highly required. Restoration schemes at the VP level proposed so far can be categorized into those using the flooding algorithm and those using the backup virtual path (BVP) concept. Even though the latter cannot handle unpredictable failures, it has some advantages such as fast restoration and low spare capacity requirement. In this paper, we propose new restoration schemes using a new type of BVPs to handle VC switch failures. The simulation results show that the proposed schemes can restore virtual connection failures due to VC switch failures without degrading restorability for VP failures.

In recent years, datacenters, network devices and computers have proliferated. The power consumed by information and communication technology (ICT) devices has inflated in an extraordinary manner. Green communication has emerged as a new approach to reduce and optimize power consumption in ICT sector. Many methods and protocols have been proposed and implemented to achieve green communication. Nevertheless, the increase of power consumption remains a problem. In this work, we attempt to reduce and optimize power consumption of network devices in datacenters environment utilizing software defined network (SDN) paradigm. To gain more insight of the power consumption requirements of network switches, a power measurement system is constructed to measure power consumption levels of network devices. Subsequently, we propose a duplication resolver algorithm (DRA) to power off/on switches reactively. DRA algorithm reduces the required time by switches to construct their flow tables after rebooting. To this end, DRA-based external circuit has been constructed utilizing Ethernet module and an Arduino kit to control power supplies of network devices. To facilitate our work, a testbed has been constructed utilizing Ryu SDN controller, HP2920-24G switches and Arduino kits. Our results show that DRA algorithm can reduce both the power usage and start-up time delay of network switches after failures.
A new switch architecture is presented to enhance out-put queuing in photonic packet switches. Its appkication is for a packet switching enviroment based on the optical transport of fixed length packets. This architecture consists of a couple of cas-cading switching elements with output queuing, whose buffer ca-pacity is limited by photonic technology. The introduction of a suitable buffer management allows a very good and balanced ex-ploitation of the available optical memories, realized with fiber de-lay lines. In particular, packet loss performance is here evaluated showing the improvement with respect to the single switch and a way to design large optical switches is shown in order to meet broadband network requirements.

In this paper we derive estimations of the parameters included in the distribution of the lifetime of k-out-of-m cold standby system with imperfect switches. Maximum likelihood and Bayes procedures are followed to get such estimations. Numerical studies, using Monte Carlo simulation method, are given in order to explain how we can utilize the theoretical results derived, and to compare the performance of the two different methods used. The criterion of comparisons is the mean squared errors associated with each estimate.
By combining the multi-faceted environmental responsiveness of polymer hydrogels with photonically active structures, there has been a significant effort to create color-tunable photonic crystal sensors by changing either the periodic spacing of the structure or the dielectric constants of the materials. Here, we show that reversible spiral and helical opal switches with both dimensional and optical functionalities that respond to environmental chemistry can be constructed. When the transparent opal switch is swollen in hydrophilic acetic acid, right-handed spirals and helices that exhibit angularly dependent colors from Bragg diffraction are formed. When the transparent opal switch is swollen in hydrophobic hexane, left-handed spirals which exhibit angularly dependent colors from Bragg diffraction are formed. When the transparent opal switch is swollen in hydrophobic hexane solvent, a left-handed spiral and helix with an angularly independent bluish color is formed. After deswelling, all switches returned back to the transparent planar state. These color-tunable, reversible spiral and helical opal switches can be useful as mechanical actuators, and electrical devices as well as optical components.
