  • In this paper, a single-phase inverter using a diode bridge-type resonant circuit to implement ZVT(Zero Voltage Transition) switching is presented. The current control algorithm is analyzed about how to design the circuit with auxiliary switch which can ZVT operation for the main power switch. The simulation and experimental results would be shown to verify the proposed current algorithm, because the main power switch is turn on with ZVT and the hi-directional inverter is operated.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new single-stage single-switch power factor correction(S-4 PFC) converter with output electrical isolation. The configuration of this converter is achieved by combining a fly back circuit and a forward circuit in one power stage. To verify the theoretical analysis of the proposed converter, a design example is given with its Pspice simu-lation and experimental results.

  • Due to the conventional half-bridge switch-mode converters for dc motor drive have been usually using unbalanced circuit topologies which generate common-mode currents through parasitic capacitors distributed between the ground and the dc motor frame such as the heat-sink of switching devices or the frame of the dc motor. This paper describes methods that cancel common-mode current generated in half-bridge switch-mode converters by using circuit balancing technique. The circuit balancing is to make the noise pickup or occurring in both conductor lines, signal and return pathes, is equal in amplitude and opposite in phase so that it will be canceled out in the ground plane. The common-mode current cancellation in the proposed converter is confirmed by experimental results.

  • This paper proposes a soft switching boost converter with an auxiliary resonant circuit. The auxiliary resonant circuit is added to a general boost converter and that is composed of one switch, one diode, one inductor and two capacitors. The resonant network helps the main switch to operate with a zero voltage switching(ZVS) and auxiliary switch also operates under the zero voltage and zero current conditions. The soft switching range is extended by the auxiliary switch and it is possible to control the proposed converter with a pulse width modulation(PWM). The ZVS and ZCS techniques make switching losses decreased and efficiency of the system improved. A theoretical analysis is verified through the simulation and experiment.

  • The fast-rising high-voltage pulse generation circuit system of a theta pinch is both theoretically and experimentally investigated. The idealized model of this circuit system is a hybrid circuit system composed of three parts: a lumped circuit part being consisted of a capacitor bank and a spark switch connected in series, another lumped circuit part being consisted of the Blumlein transmission line, whose end load is the pinch coil. the voltage difference between two ends of the pinch coil is formulated by analyzing this hybrid circuit system by means of the law of the signal propagation in the transmission line and Kirchhoff's laws. The expedient numerical method for computer calculation is developed to generate the pulse profile of the voltage difference across the pinch coil. The period of the experimentally measured main pulse is a fourth of the theoretical one neglecting the resistance of the pinch coil. We attribute this discrepancy to the modelling in the theoretical calculation that hte resistance and inductance of the spark switch and capacitor bank are assumed to be constant through discharge. Therefore, we can see that the rise time of the imploding magnetic-field pulse is mainly dependent on the spark switch and capacitor bank.

  • Recent trends in high-power-density applications have highlighted the importance of designing power converters with high-frequency operation. However, conventional LLC resonant converters present limitations in terms of high-frequency driving due to switching losses during the turn-off period. Switching losses are caused by the overlap of the voltage and current during this period, and can be decreased by reducing the switch voltage. In turn, the switch voltage can be reduced through a series connection of four switches, and additional circuitry is essential for balancing the voltage of each switch. In this work, a three-level LLC resonant converter that can operate at high frequency is proposed by reducing switch losses and balancing the voltages of all switches with only one capacitor. The voltage-balancing principle of the proposed circuit can be extended to n-level converters, which further reduces the switch voltage stress. As a result, the proposed circuit is applicable to high-input applications. To confirm the validity of the proposed circuit, theoretical analysis and experimental verification results from a 350 W-rated prototype are presented.

  • This paper presents a high-efficient and cost effective three-phase AC/DC-DC/AC power conversion system with a single two-switch type active Auxiliary Resonant DC Link (ARDCL) snubber circuit, which can minimize the total power dissipation. The active ARDCL snubber circuit is proposed in this paper and its unique features are described. Its operation principle in steady-state is discussed for the three phase AC/DC-DC/AC converter, which is composed of PWM rectifier as power factor correction (PFC) converter, sinewave PWM inverter. In the presented power converter system not only three-phase AC/DC PWM rectifier but also three-phase DC/AC inverter can achieve the stable ZVS commutation for all the power semiconductor devices. It is proved that the proposed three-phase AC/DC-DC/AC converter system is more effective and acceptable than the previous from the cost viewpoint and high efficient consideration. In addition, the proposed two-switch type active auxiliary ARDCL snubber circuit can reduce the peak value of the resonant inductor injection current in order to maximize total system actual efficiency by using the improved DSP based control scheme. Moreover the proposed active auxiliary two-switch ARDCL snubber circuit has the merit so that there is no need to use any sensing devices to detect the voltage and current in the ARDCL sunbber circuit for realizing soft-switching operation. This three-phase AC/DC-DC/AC converter system developed for UPS can achieve the 1.8% higher efficiency and 20dB lower conduction noise than those of the conventional three-phase hard-switching PWM AC/DC-DC/AC converter system. It is proved that actual efficiency of the proposed three-phase AC/DC-DC/AC converter system operating under a condition of soft switching is 88.7% under 10kw output power.

  • This paper proposes a new switching algorithm for an active clamp snubber to improve the efficiency of a module integrated converter system. This system uses an active clamp method for the snubber circuit for the efficiency and reliability of the system. However, the active clamp snubber circuit has the disadvantage that system efficiency is decreased by switch operating time because of heat loss in resonance between the snubber capacitor and leakage inductance. To address this, this paper proposes a new switching algorithm. The proposed algorithm is a technique to reduce power consumption by reducing the resonance of the snubber switch operation time. Also, the snubber switch is operated at zero voltage switching by turning on the snubber switch before main switch turn-off. Simulation and experimental results are presented to show the validity of the proposed new active clamp control algorithm.

  • This paper proposes an actively clamped two-switch flyback converter. Compared to the conventional two-switch flyback converter, the proposed two-switch flyback converter operates with a wide duty cycle range. By using an active-clamp circuit, the proposed converter achieves zero-voltage switching for all of the power switches. Zero-current switching of an output diode is also achieved. Thus, compared with the conventional converter, the proposed converter realizes a higher efficiency with an extended duty cycle. The performance of the proposed converter is verified by the experimental results with use of a 1.0 kW prototype circuit.

  • Using Ansoft HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator) and Serenade(circuit simulator), multilayer LPF and RF diode switch for GSM were designed. Diodes were transformed the inductor and capacitor in Tx and Rx for the simulation of equivalent circuit, respectively. In particular, the design of the simulation for multilayer RF diode switch was carried out with considering the variance of device and contraction percentage.
