  • This paper deals with the design of a robust PI controller for a vehicle suspension system. A method, which is related to computation of all stabilizing PI controllers, is applied to the vehicle suspension system in order to obtain optimum control between passenger comfort and driving performance. The PI controller parameters are calculated by plotting the stability boundary locus in the $(k_p,\;k_i)$-plane and illustrative results are presented. In reality, like all physical systems, the vehicle suspension system parameters contain uncertainty. Thus, the proposed method is also used to compute all the parameters of a PI controller that stabilize a vehicle suspension system with uncertain parameters.

  • In electrophoresis, it is studied to get best condition of suspension media with alcoholic system for superconducting film. High-temperature superconductor films of $YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-x}$ were fabricated by electrophoretic deposition(EPD) from alcohol-based suspension. Maximum stability is observed for the suspension containing iso-alcohol as dispersion medium. However, for the formation of a dense and adherent coating of YBCO on a silver substrate by EPD. the best results were obtained in mixing PrOH and BuOH suspension. The superconducting critical current density($J_c$) was $1,200A/cm^2$ for the films deposited in 30% iso-PrOH and 70 % iso-BuOH suspension.

  • The electrorheological (ER) behavior of amino coated chitosan phosphate suspension in silicone oil is investigated. Amino coated chitosan phosphate suspension shows a typical ER response (Bingham flow behavior) upon application of an electric field due to the polarizability of phosphoryl polar group. The shear stress for the suspension exhibits a linear dependence on an electric field power of 1.94. The values of structure factors $A_s$obtains 2 far mine coated chitosan phosphate suspension and it may be due to the formation of multiple chains upon application of the electric field. Throughtout the experimental results, amino coated chitosan phosphate suspension shows good dispersion stability and found to be an anhydrous ER fluid.

  • Active suspension systems have been using for improving ride quality and stability for vehicles. An active suspension system is composed of a hydraulic pump, pressure control valves, hydraulic dampers, vehicle body, tires and other components. In this study, the mathematical model for the active suspension system based on the quarter car concept is derived, and a program for analysing the dynamic behaviour of the suspension system is developed. The computed results by the developed program are compared with the experimental results for confirming the reliability and usefulness of the developed program.

  • The most important parameter for hydraulic active suspension system is to sustain desirable vehicle maneuvering stability and ride comfort without increasing power consumption. The performance of hydraulic active suspension system depends on damping force of body damping valve and piston damping valve. Hydraulic actuator design and damping valve parameter selection are essential and basic procedure to design hydraulic system. This paper is on computer simulation with use of mathematical model that was delivered from dynamic characteristic of hydraulic actuator, as know basic damping characteristics of hydraulic active suspension system. The aim of this paper is to select the system parameter that affect mainly hydraulic active suspension, and identify the validity on the system parameter selection.

  • In general Maglev (magnetically levitated vehicle) has about 4 or 5 bogies per one vehicle to improve stability of electromagnetic suspension and 4 air-spring per one bogie are to be equipped to prevent form excessive yawing and pitching motion of bogie. 3 leveling valve per one vehcile will be applied to control the height of carbody. This kind of vehicle is on the design stage, and design review will be carried out before manufacture. The suspension system of Maglev consists of 16 of air-spring, auxiliray reservoir and orifice, 3 leveling valve, which are different composition comparative to conventional rolling stock. To improve operational reliability of vehicle, additional ventilation valve will be equipped with airspring. This kind of new design concept requires fundamental design review. In this study, suspension systems of Maglev will be built as mathematical model. Then designed suspension system will be reviewed in view of various points through proposed suspension simulation.

  • To enhance the stability of dispersed polyaniline (PANI) particles in a silicone oil system, a nonionic surfactant was adopted, and its effect on the electrorheological (ER) performance was investigated under an applied electric field. In the presence of a nonionic surfactant, the PANI based ER fluid exhibited not only an improved sedimentation stability based on the estimated sedimentation ratio but also an enhanced maximum yield stress behavior. Furthermore, the surfactant added ER suspension was applied to an ER damper system, and its damping performance was compared with the ER suspension without a surfactant.

  • An automotive suspension system generally behaves like a low frequency band-pass filter(0.5 - 10 Hz). Passengers are very sensitive to this frequency range in terms of ride quality and road holding ability. In this paper, a LQG/ LTR controller is suggested to improve the ride quality and road holding ability in the specified frequency rage. It has been found by numerical simulation that the ride quality and road holding ability can be improved in the frequency ranges of 0.5 - 3.0 Hz and 0.3 - 2.1 Hz respectively. In addition, a new approach using root locus to evaluate the stability robustness of the active suspension system is studied. It is shown that the stability robustness of the LQG/LTR controller designed in this paper is improved, compared to the passive system.

  • This paper presents the enhancement of vehicle stability by active geometry control suspension(AGCS) system as the world-first, unique and patented chassis technology, which has more advantages than the conventional active chassis control systems in terms of the basic concept. The control approach of the conventional systems such as active suspensions(slow active, full active) and four wheel steering(4WS) system is directly to control the same direction with acting load to stabilize vehicle behavior resulting from external inputs, but AGCS controls the cause of vehicle behaviors occurring from vehicle and thus makes the system stable because it works as mechanical system after control action. The effect of AGCS is the remarkable enhancement of avoidance performance in abrupt lane change driving by controlling the rear bump toe geometry.

  • This study is aimed to assess the stability of cable bridge by determining the geometric shape of the suspension bridge among the domestic coastal structures in public use after their completion of construction and the displacement of the target suspension bridge after public use. For this purpose, this study calculated the length between pylon piers for each period, sag, sag ratio and the displacement of pylon. Compared to the management standards for each step across different pylon behaviors of the target suspension bridge, this study found that the target suspension bridge behaves stably within the maintenance standards. To identify the behaviors of a suspension bridge accurately, the priority is put on the determination of geometric shape. Therefore, it is required to determine the surveyed shape model on a regular basis across public use period and increased traffics, which is expected to contribute considerably to ensuring the stability of the suspension bridge in its maintenance.
