A surveillance system is used many industrial places, and public places to monitor the present situation. Most of the existing surveillance system is composed of the monitors and a lot of cameras that are installed each place to be monitored. The system is usually using the CCTV, closed circuit television, system that is a passive surveillance system. Urban transit operation corporations use the passive surveillance system to monitor the situation of the passengers, and the status of the important facilities. However the officers or operators cannot monitor all of the situation or status constantly, and cannot respond to emergency. In this paper, we propose a sensor network-based intelligent surveillance system to solve these problems. The proposed system is composed of a lot of intelligent sensors that can determine the present status and integrated processor units to detect more precisely events using the information from the sensors. The sensors and the integrated processor are connected by communication network. The proposed system can be installed and used without a lot of change of the existing facilities such as the enormous communication bandwidth increase.

Recently, intelligent surveillance camera systems are needed popularly. However, current researches are focussed on improvement of a single module rather than implementation of an integrated system. In this paper, we implemented a wireless surveillance camera system which is composed of face detection, and using motion sensor. In our implementation, we used a camera module from SHARP, a pair of wireless video transmission module from ECOM, a pair of ZigBee RF wireless transmission module from ROBOBLOCK, and a motion sensor module (AMN14111) from PANASONIC. We used OpenCV library for face dection and MFC for implement software. We identified real-time operations of face detection, PTT control, and motion sensor detecton. Thus, the implemented system will be useful for the applications of remote control, human detection, and using motion sensor.

In this paper, we propose operational concepts and technology requirements for guard and surveillance robots in military field. After surveying on current trend of guard robots, we present an operational scenario and technology requirements. To begin with, we discriminate the use of fixed type guard robots(fixed robots) and mobile guard and surveillance robots(mobile robots). Fixed robots are used for substituting daily guard by human soldier. In contrast, mobile robots are used for compensating shadow area where not to be covered by fixed type robots. To be specific, mobile robots adopt communication relays to extend operational range and sensor networks to collecting information. In addition, we present technology requirements composed of wireless communication system, platform, sensor nodes, unmanned driving technology, power supply system and IFF etc. In conclusion, in order to maximize co-operational functionality, fixed robots and mobile robots should be tightly related.
Many surveillance cameras used in security system are controlled with RS-485 communication protocol. In this situation, if RS-485 connection can be replaced with wireless connection using sensor network technology, an installation will become ease because of no wired connection and also a deployment of cameras will become free. This paper explains about the design of wireless sensor node and the necessary implementation for an operation, which can be replacing RS-485 connection for the development of CCTV control system based on wireless sensor network. The hardware platform of sensor node was designed based on MicaZ and the software was developed based on TinyOS. To control surveillance cameras deployed on wide area, the supporting of multi-hop also was implemented. With the result of experiment deploying on real environment, it was revealed that the controller could control cameras quickly with wireless.

In this paper, we propose a low-power design strategy to minimize energy-consumption for surveillance and reconnaissance sensor networks. The sensor network consists of many different nodes with various operations such as target detection, packet relay, video monitoring, changing protocols, and etc. Each sensor node consists of sensing, computing, communication, and power components. These components are integrated on a single or multiple boards. Therefore, the power consumption of each component can be different on various operation types. First, we identified the list of components and measured power consumption for them from the first prototype nodes. Next, we focus on which components are the main sources of energy consumption. We propose many energy-efficient approaches to reduce energy consumption for each operation type.

The position of sensors generally affects coverage, communication costs, and resource management of surveillance sensor networks. Thus we are required to place a sensor in the best location. However, it is difficult to consider that terrain and climate factors influencing sensors when sensor nodes are deployed in the real world, such as a mountain area or a downtown area. We therefore require a sensor deployment method for detecting effectively targets of interest in terms of surveillance area coverage in such environment. Thus in this paper, we analyze various environmental factors related to sensor deployment, and quantify these factors to use when we deploy sensors. By considering these quantified factors, we propose a practical and effective method for deploying sensors in terms of sensing coverage. We also demonstrate the propriety of the proposed method through implementing a sensor deployment management system according to the method.

A Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is better than a conventional network for use in construction and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) because of its lower surveillance system cost. However, effective operation of a WSN is often difficult to obtain because the surveillance targets are usually fixed inside the building or underground. Therefore, this environmental constraint should be considered in the design of the WSN plant equipment surveillance system prior to installation. This study employs simulations of WSN-based fixed facility surveillance using the TinyOS TOSSIM simulator to investigate ideal types and setups of the WSN. Simulation target protocols included LEACH and flooding and gossiping protocols. The results show that the hierarchically-structured LEACH protocol demonstrated better load-balancing and efficiency than the flatly-structured flooding and gossiping protocol.
Dataset is getting more import to develop a learning based algorithm. Quality of the algorithm definitely depends on dataset. So we introduce new dataset over 200 thousands images which are fully labeled multi modal sensor data. Proposed dataset was designed and constructed for researchers who want to develop detection, tracking, and action classification in outdoor environment for surveillance scenarios. The dataset includes various images and multi modal sensor data under different weather and lighting condition. Therefor, we hope it will be very helpful to develop more robust algorithm for systems equipped with difference kinds of sensors in outdoor application. Case studies with the proposed dataset are also discussed in this paper.

Various researches have been studied on WSN(wireless sensor network) for barbed wire entanglements surveillance applications such as industry facilities, security area, prison, military area, airport, etc. Currently, barbed wire entanglements surveillance is formed wire sensor network environment. Traditional wire sensor network guarantee high data transmission rate. Therefore, wire sensor network use fast fourier transform of data of high transmission rate for extraction of feature parameter. However, wireless sensor network in comparison with wire sensor network has very low data transmission rate. Therefore, wireless sensor network doesn't use fast fourier transform of wire sensor network for extraction of feature parameter. In this paper, proposed method use 1 level approximation coefficient of DTW(dynamic time-warped) algorithms based on DWT(discrete wavelet transform) for extraction of detection feature parameter and classification feature parameter for barbed wire entanglements surveillance. l level approximation coefficient have time information and frequency information of signal. Therefore, Dynamic time-warped algorithms based on discrete wavelet transform improve detection and classification of target rather than using energy of signal.
Node deployment is one of the important problems in achieving good quality of service in wireless sensor network. The purpose of this paper is to develop an interactive system that supports user's decision makings in designing sensor fields. The system provides grid-based initial deployment algorithm supporting three types of node deployment pattern, area-fill, path-cover, and barrier-cover deployment pattern. After initial deployment, an iterative refinement algorithm can be applied, which takes care of the irregularity of the deployment area and the heterogeneity of sensors. The proposed system helps users to effectively deploy nodes in the sensor field, analyse the detection performance of the deployment, and perform network simulations. The developed system can be utilized as a part of the development environment of the surveillance sensor network system.
