Electrical Properties and Clamping Voltage Characteristics of ZPCCY-Based Varistor Ceramics (ZPCCY계 바리스터 세라믹스의 전기적 성질 및 제한전압 특성)

  • The microstructure, electrical properties, and clamping voltage characteristics of $ZnO-Pr_6O_{11}-CoO-Cr_2O_3-Y_2O_3(ZPCCY)-based$ varistor ceramics sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$ were investigated as a function of sintering time from 1 to 3 h. With increasing sintering time, the average grain size and density increased in the range of $11.4\~16.0\;{\mu}m$ and $5.34\~5.54g/cm^3$, respectively, in accordance of increasing sintering time. The nonlinear exponent decreased in the range of $60\~26$ and the leakage current increased in the range of $1.3\~10.7\;{\mu}A$ with increasing sintering time. The clamping voltage ratio increased in the range $1.58\~1.65$ for ratio surge current of 10 A as the sintering time increased.

  • This study reports on the pressure relief design and braided composite of surge arrester. Surge arresters with porcelain housing must not have explosive breakage of the housing to minimize damage to other equipment when subjected to internal high short circuit current. As a solution, this study describes pressure relief design performance of arresters with braided composite module. In general, braided composite has Potential for improved impact and delamination resistance. Manufacturing processes of the braided composite could also be automated and could potentially lead to lower costs. Therefore, in consideration of characteristics of pressure relief for polymer arrester, the fabric pattern of braided composite was decided. And Polymer arrester module was manufactured with braid. The mechanisms of pressure occurrence and relief were investigated basically by analyzing arc energy and the correlation between thermal shock and indoor pressure in pressure relief test.

  • According to the korea standard (KS)'s definition through 'KSC IEC 61643-1(2007), A SPD(Surge Protective Device) is an appliance designed to protect electrical devices from voltage spikes and the principal components used to reduce or limit high voltages can include one or more of the nonlinear components. 4 type of those nonlinear components are utilized in accordance with korea standard's IEC regulation. The SPD is installed the place(in and out side of installation for protecting damage due to the inflow of light surge) which we need by combination of nonlinear components. In this study, the analysis based on the characteristics of SPD from PF track circuit are discussed.

  • The microstructure, electrical, and clamping voltage characteristics of ZPCCD-based varistors were investigated at sintering time of 2 and 3 h. The average grain size and density of varistor were increased from 15.2 to 19.0 and from 5.5 to 5.6 $g/cm^3$ with sintering time, respectively. The nonlinear exponent was 65.4 for 2 h and 37.4 for 3 h, and leakage current was 0.54 ${\mu}A$ for 2 h and 0.67 ${\mu}A$ for 3 h. The dissipation factor was 0.0397 for 2 h and 0.0457 for 3 h. The clamping voltage ratio at surge current($8/20{\mu}s$) of 10~300 A was increased in the range of 1.56~2.17.

  • As electrode materials like as Cu-Pb, Cu-Bi, WC-Ag, W-Ag for vacuum circuit breaker have high chopping current or bad insulation-recovery characteristics, it can affect induction machinery like as transformer and motor. To produce low surge electrode material, it have been suggested Co-Ag-Se electrode which were infiltrated with Ag-Se intermetallic compound into sintered Co matrix. In this study, we would like to represent that production method and microstructure of Co-Ag-Se electrode material. The microstructure and characteristics of Ag-Se intermetallic compound and Co-(Ag-Se) electrode were investigated by using SEM, XRD, EPMA.

  • This study simulated the effect of steam injection on the performance and operation of a gas turbine combined heat and power (CHP) system. A commercial simple cycle gas turbine was analyzed. A full off-design analysis was carried out to investigate the variations in not only engine performance but also the operating characteristics of the compressor caused by steam injection. Variation in engine performance and operation characteristics according to various operation modes were examined. First, the impact of full steam injection was investigated. Then, operations aiming to guarantee a minimum compressor surge margin, such as under-firing and partial steam injection, were investigated. The former and latter were turned out to be relatively superior to each other in terms of power and efficiency, respectively.

  • A strong need to improve the quality of electric power is increased because of increasing use of the sensitive and small-sized electronic devices. The surges on the low-voltage ac power lines are induced by nearby lightning return strokes, and the facilities for HA, OA, FA, ME as well as computer are easily damaged by high-voltage transients. The behaviors of lightning surge characteristics transferred from the primary winding to the secondary winding in distribution transformers using a Marx generator were experimentally investigated. The transfer characteristics of lightning surge associated with a custom service ground of secondary side were also examined.

  • Electronic circuits are becoming more vulnerable owing to the development of integrated circuit. Computer and info-communication facilities are very sensitive to surges caused by lightning, and they can suffer a malfunction and damage. Recent concern about damage and upset caused by transient overvoltages has focused on surge protection. The most important parameter in surge protection is the transient grounding impedance. In this paper, the transient grounding impedances of a rod electrode have been measured under impulse current waves. Z-t, Z-i and V-i characteristics of the grounding electrode in according to the length of the grounding lead wire were obtained and analyzed.

  • Aging and failure of motor insulation depend on the stresses imposed on it. The insulation life time depends on the severity of the stresses. The electrical aging by transient surge is very important to traction motor in EMU(electric multiple unit). This paper Presents the insulation characteristics of stator coil by transient surge from inverter. There are several nondestructive tests available for checking the condition of motor insulation, the probable extent of aging,. and the rate of which aging is taking pace. So the insulation characteristics of stator coil were each analyzed by measurement of leakage current, dielectric loss($tan{\delta}$), capacitance, polarization index(PI) and partial discharge. The method of diagnosis is able to analyze the aging condition and Predict the life of the traction motor in EMU.
