Comparative Study on Water Hammer for Pump Station in High Pressurized Pipes in Kuwait

  • Because of abrupt changes for velocity in water, transient flow is occurred in practical life. To reduce and avoid the high or low pressure of pipe network system, various surge protection facilities are used to prevent the risk in pipe network system. Especially, we focused on study not only preventing positive and negative pressure but also selecting adequate equipment for high pressurized pipelines. Several critical cases were considered by undertaking a steady state hydraulic study and transient dynamic simulation and we suggested that the surge vessel of various surge protection system was recommended to control high and low pressures on pipeline system in perspective.

  • 연료가스 압축 시스템은 중급의 FPSO에 설치되며, 이 시스템에서 서지를 방지하기 위하여 안티 서지 밸브가 사용되어진다. 만약 서지가 발생하게 되면 시스템의 파괴를 초래할 수 있으므로 안티서지 밸브는 반드시 구조강도와 구조안전성 평가가 수반되어야한다. 특히, 비상시에도 밸브는 구조안전성과 그 성능을 보장해야 된다. 이 연구에서는 안티서지 밸브의 구조강도와 구조안정성 평가를 수치해석을 통하여 수행하였다. 형상모델은 유니그래픽스 NX4.0을 사용하였으며 시뮬레이션은 ANSYS Workbench 12.1 버전을 이용하였다. 밸브의 허용 강도와 안전계수는 ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code를 참조하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 불규칙 선수파랑 조건에서 선박계류시스템의 전후동요를 억제하는 연구를 수행하였다. 두점식 계류시스템은 비선형복원력의 특성으로 인하여 규칙파 조건에서도 강한 비선형 응답 특성을 보인다. 종방향 불규칙 장파가 외란으로 선박계류시스템에 작용하게 되면 규칙파 외력이 입사하는 경우보다 변위와 속도에서 더욱 복잡한 비선형 거동이 발생한다. 계의 종동요 변위와 속도를 동시에 억제하기 위하여 슬라이딩모드 제어법(SMC)을 적용하였다. SMC는 매개변수의 불확실성 및 외란에 대한 강인성을 갖는 폐루프 시스템을 제공하지만, 채터링은 이 제어법을 사용할 때 큰 단점이 된다. 본 연구에서는 준 슬라이딩모드의 시그모이드 함수를 이용하여 불규칙 해양파의 외란 조건에서 채터링을 줄이고. 수렴의 정확성에 도달하는 목표를 달성하였다. 제어법의 유효성은 수치시뮬레이션을 통해 증명하였다.

A Positioning Mooring System Design for Barge Ship Based on PID Control Approach

  • This paper presents some experimental results about Position Mooring (PM) system applied to the barge ship. In PM operation, the station keeping in surge, sway of vessel is provided by the mooring system. In this paper, a system, consisting of a barge vessel and mooring lines, is mathematically modeled. The position and orientation of vessel is controlled by changing the tensions in the mooring lines. The PID control strategy is applied to evaluate the efficiency of proposed system. Experimental result which corresponds to the applied control strategy is presented and discussed.

PVRC 감쇠를 고려한 밀림관의 시간이력해석 (Time History Analysis of Surge Line Considering PVRC Damping)

  • The PVRC(Pressure Vessel Research Council) damping is for the response spectrum analysis of the piping system. In this study, the possibility to apply it to the time history analysis is evaluated to reduce the higher conservatism for the structural integrity. The evaluation was performed for the surge line connecting the pressurizer to the hot-leg, and the whole mode includes the RCS and the building structures with the surge line. The analyses were performed using ANSYS code. The first modal analysis shows the modes of the surge line are isolated from those of the other structures. The composite modal damping was calculated with PVRC damping for the surge line and RG 1.60 damping for the other structures by using ANSYS routines. Of the calculated composite modal damping values, the composite modal damping values related to the modes of the surge line were replaced with the PVRC damping values with respect to its frequencies. With this replacement, the composite modal damping values of the other structures were not changed. Based on this decouple characteristics, the time history analyses for the seismic events with PVRC damping for the surge line were performed. And the results show the resultant loads can be reduced by up to 50%.

  • 원자력공사에 관련된 장치와 부속 기기를 설계 및 제작 또는 설치하려면 ASME에서 인증하는 자격이 필요하고, 자격을 취득하거나 갱신하기 위하여 시설, 품질보증 프로그램, 설계 및 제작능력등을 ASME 위원회의 실사를 받아야 한다. 이를 위한 일련의 과정 중에서 설계능력을 증명할 수 있는 설계해석 보고서를 제출하여야 하며 이를 위하여 현대중공업이 설계한 Chiler Surge Vessel의 설계조건 및 하중 및 하중조합에 대하여 Design Report를 작성하였으며, ASME Code의 요구조건을 모두 만족하는 것으로 평가되었다.

An auto weather-vaning system for a DP vessel that uses a nonlinear controller and a disturbance observer

  • An auto weather-vaning system for a Dynamic Positioning (DP) vessel is proposed. When a DP vessel is operating, its position keeping is hindered by ocean environmental disturbances which include the ocean current, wave and wind. Generally, most ocean vessels have a longitudinal length that is larger than the transverse width. The largest load acts on the DP vessel by ocean disturbances, when the disturbances are incoming in the transverse direction. Weather-vaning is the concept of making the heading angle of the DP vessel head toward (or sway from) the disturbance direction. This enables the DP vessel to not only perform marine operations stably and safely, but also to maintain its position with minimum control forces (surge & sway components). To implement auto weather-vaning, a nonlinear controller and a disturbance observer are used. The disturbance observer transforms a real plant to the nominal model without disturbance to enhance the control performance. And the nonlinear controller deals with the kinematic nonlinearity. The auto weather-vaning system is completed by adding a weather-vaning algorithm to disturbance based controller. Numerical simulations of a semi-submersible type vessel were performed for the validation. The results show that the proposed method enables a DP vessel to maintain its position with minimum control force.

Numerical simulation in time domain to study cross-flow VIV of catenary riser subject to vessel motion-induced oscillatory current

  • The present study proposes a time domain model for the Vortex-induced Vibration (VIV) simulation of a catenary riser under the combination of the current and oscillatory flow induced by vessel motion. In this model, the hydrodynamic force of VIV comprises excitation force, hydrodynamic damping and added mass, which are taken as functions of the non-dimensional frequency and amplitude ratio. The non-dimensional frequency is related with the response frequency, natural frequency, lock-in range and the fluid velocity. The relatively oscillatory flow induced by vessel motion is taken into account in the fluid velocity. Considering that the added mass coefficient and the non-dimensional frequency can affect each other, an iterative analysis is conducted at each time step to update the added mass coefficient and the natural frequency. This model is in detail validated against the published test models. The results show that the model can reasonably reflect the effect of the added mass coefficient on the VIV, and can well predict the riser's VIV under stationary and oscillatory flow induced by vessel motion. Based on the model, this study carries out the VIV simulation of a catenary riser with harmonic vessel motion. By analyzing the bending moment near the touchdown point, it is found that under the combination of the ocean current and oscillatory flow the vessel motion may decrease the VIV response, while increase the excited frequencies. In addition, the decreasing rate of the VIV under vessel surge is larger than that under vessel heave at small vessel motion velocity, while the situation becomes opposite at large vessel motion velocity.

파랑 및 부유체 운동을 고려한 세장해양구조물의 동적 거동 해석 (Dynamic Response Analysis of Slender Marine Structures under Vessel Motion and Regular Waves)

  • 해저자원개발에 사용되는 riser나 TLP의 인장각과 같은 세장해양구조물의 파랑 및 상단부유체의 운동에 대한 동적거동해석을 수행하였다. 구조부재의 유한요소모델을 사용한 수치해석기법을 개발하고 규칙파에 대한 시간영역해석을 수행하였다. 본 연구는 상단부유체의 수평 및 수직운동이 구조물의 횡방향거동에 미치는 영향을 분석하였으며, 특히 부유체 수직운동의 영향을 주로하여 패러미터연구를 수행하였다. 수심, 파랑조건 그리고 부유체운동 등 여러경우에 대한 구조물의 변의, 휨응력을 비교검토하였고, 이 해석을 통하여 부유체의 수직운동에 의한 시간변화 인장력으로 야기되는 불안정조건을 검토하였다. 예제해석결과, 부유체의 수평 및 수직운동의 상호작용으로 riser의 동적응답이 증폭되었다. TLP 인장각의 경우 부유체의 수직운동효과가 구조물의 거동에 상당히 크게 작용하는 것으로 나타났다.

견인되는 선박의 조종성능 개선에 관한 연구 : 시스템 모델링 (A study on maneuvering performance improvement of a towed vessel without a power propulsion system: system modeling)

  • In this study, a motion control problem for the vessels towed by tugboats or towing ships on the sea is considered. The towed vessel looks like the barge ship, which is used for many purposes. In these vessels, basically, the power propulsion system is not installed but just towed by a towing vessel such as tugboats with ropes and wires. It means that the motions of towed vessel are basically dependent on the tracking route of towing boat. Therefore, in some cases, undesirable and unpredictable motions may be made by environmental factors such as wave, wind attack and so on. As a result, a collision accident with others may occur during maneuvering situation. Based on these facts, the authors try to encourage the steering performance of the towed vessel by using controllable rudders without any propulsion system. In this study, especially, a controllable vessel with three rudders is considered, and a mathematical model is induced for the future study. The model is described as surge, sway motion and inertia moment by following the general representation method for the surface ship.
