The displacement measuring systems of slope ground surface are very expensive instruments and have disadvantages concerning installing, maintaining and surveying. The measuring works are very dangerous. Recently, simple systems are required to measure the displacement of slope ground surface in stages of cutting and maintaining slope. In this study, the mechanism of Softcopy Photogrammetry is applied to measure the displacement of slope ground surface. Three dimensional data of the slope ground surface can effectively be obtained in order to analyze slope stability. Computer Program, DIMA (Design IMmage Analysis), including the reformation process of a contour line was developed. As a result of this study, countermeasure and instruction standards of the displacement of slope ground surface before and after slope failure are established. Also, disadvantages of the existing system can be complemented.

A stability analysis program(CSLOP) which can obtain the factor of safety and the critical failure surface at the same time is developed from this study. In order to improve existing slice methods, the general slice method of Gussmann is applied to compute the factor of safety, and the constrained simplex algorithm proposed by Box is applied to systematically locate the critical failure surface in slopes. The proposed method is applied to two examples of circular and noncircular slope stability and the results are compared to previously published solutions. Constrained simplex method is recommended to improve slope stability programs which provide for an automatic search of the critical failure mechanisms.
This study presents the results of a series of laboratory scale slope failure experiments aimed at clarifying the process and the condition leading to the initiation of rainfall-induced slope failures. For the evaluation of hydrologic response of the model slopes in relation the process of failure initiation, measurements were focused on the changes in volumetric water content during the initiation process. The process leading to failure initiation commences by the development of a seepage face. It appears reasonable to conclude that slope failures are a consequence of the instability of seepage area formed at the slope surface during rainfall period. Therefore, this demonstrates the importance of monitoring the development seepage area for useful prediction about the timing of a particular failure event. The hydrologic response of soil slopes leading to failure initiation is characterized by three phases (phase I, II and III) of significant increase in volumetric water content in association with the ingress of wetting front and the rise of groundwater level within the slope. The period of phase III increase in volumetric water content can be used to initiate advance warning towards a failure initiation event. Therefore, for the concept outlined above, direct and continuous monitoring of the change in volumetric water content is likely to provide the possibility for the development of a reliable and effective means of predicting the occurrence of rainfall-induced slope failures.
The lapse of time may cause in the slope structure various deterioration phenomenon progresses in the ground of slope, and collapse due to deterioration of strength, resulting in a decrease in the service life. The approach to slope stability due to the ground deterioration is a different concept from the existing limit equilibrium analysis, which is limited to the physical characteristics and geometrical structure of ground. In this study, we conducted a comparative analysis of various literature studies related to the slope failure characteristics and behaviors to presented the optimal formulas for shear strength reduction, such as the exponential function, the logarithmic function and the inverse hyperbolic function. And then a case study was performed on cut slope of Gyeongbu High Speed Rail construction site along the Yangsan fault zone, where the slope failure of shale layer vulnerable to deterioration occurred. As a result, it was confirmed that landslide occurred due to reduction of shear strength by deterioration, as safety factor is approx. 1.0 at the time when the slope failure occurred. Based on the comprehensive case study, as a quantitative approach to the evaluation of slope stability due to deterioration of ground, finally we propose a method for evaluating slope stability with optimal strength reduction curves.
Slope failure triggered by rainfall produces severe effects on the serviceability and stability of railway, Therefore, slope stability problem is one of the major concerns on the operation of railway. In this study, the rainfall conditions triggering slopes failure adjacent to railroads are investigated and the numerical analysis approach in consideration of infiltration and limit equilibrium method based upon multiple slip surfaces are proposed. The rainfall conditions triggering slope failure are as follow: cumulative rainfall is in the range of 150~500 mm, and duration is from 3 to 24 hours. Base upon the rainfall conditions, infiltration analysis and limit equilibrium method for infinite slope condition are carried out. The depth of infinite slope is assumed as 2 m and the multiple slip surfaces modeled with 16.7 cm interval from the bottom slip surface located at the 2 m depth. The assumed bottom slip surface is the location at which factor of safety is converging. The proposed approach shows more reasonable results than the results from the general codes assuming water table at slope surface. In addition, three dimensional plot of cumulative rainfall, rainfall duration, and factor of safety shows that slope stability analysis in consideration of rainfalll must account for cumulative rainfall (rainfall duration).
Until now, most probabilistic approaches to the slope stability analysis have been accomplished on the arc failure surface without load. In this study, the relationships between the probability of failure and the safety factor are investigated when the shape of failure is logarithmic spiral on the homogeneous slope with ground water level, the probability distributions of the load and the strength parameter of soil being assumed as normal distribution, log-normal distribution and beta distribution. The results obtained are as follows; 1. For the same safety factor, the design of slope is more reasonable by using the probability of failure than by the safety factor because the probability of failure is increased as the coefficient of variation is increased. 2, The safety factor is more reasonably determined by the coefficient of variation of the strength parameter than by the field condition when the safety factor is applied to design of slope.
Multilayer perceptron neural network was trained to determine the factor of safety and slip surface of the slope. Slope geometry is a simple slope based on Korean design standards, and the case of dry and existing groundwater levels are both considered, and the properties of the soil composing the slope are considered to be sandy soil including fine particles. When curating the data required for model training, slope stability analysis was performed in 42,000 cases using the limit equilibrium method. Steady-state seepage analysis of groundwater was also performed, and the results generated were applied to slope stability analysis. Results show that the multilayer perceptron model can predict the factor of safety and failure arc with high performance when the slope's physical properties data are input. A method for quantitative validation of the model performance is presented.

Most of steep slope failures occurring in Korea have appeared during the localized heavy rain period, whereas the evaluation model of a disaster vulnerability analysis that has been proposed to date, has been prepared in consideration only of external factors comprising geographical features. This study calculated a wetness index and a contributory area which delivers moisture to the upper slant surface during the rainfall period, and also conducted a disaster vulnerability analysis in consideration of the convergence of surface water as well as the water system created during the occurrence of rainfall by including a curvature that shows a close relevance with the shape of the minute water system that is created temporarily during the occurrence of rainfall and with the convergence and divergence of surface water. When compared with a steep slope failure occurring within a selected model district in order to verify the prepared disaster analysis, a landslide occurring in the model district had emerged in a region in which the disaster vulnerability analysis was high and the density of the minor water system was also high. If these research results are extended nationwide, it is the most effective to use a disaster vulnerability analysis and the density of the minute water system; and it is supposed to be the simplest and the most effective method for preparing a disaster analysis of mountainous land shape such as the model district.

The limit equilibrium method and finite element method have been commonly used to assess the stability of anchored slope. However, the existing limit equilibrium methods do not consider the load transfer of anchor and, if the potential failure surface crosses the bonded zone of anchors, the anchor loads are not included in computing the factor of safety. In this paper, simplified bishop method, one among several methods based on the limit equilibrium is used to develope the Excel Sheet program and the working load of anchor along the failure surface is calculated by Flamant's formula, proposed by Morlier and Tenier(1982). Additionally, the finite element analysis of anchored slope considering the load transfer is performed in order to compare with the result from the limit equilibrium analysis and analyze the reinforced effect of anchor. From this study, new modelling method that limits the reinforcing range and considers the load transfer is proposed and Excel Sheet program is developed. The factor of safety for several cases between PC STABL and Excel Sheet program is also compared for verification of the program.
